Exactly! Except I'd go the other way, nothing in these numbers have shown that it is the hit FOX is expecting. Disappointing premiere numbers, inconclusive repeat numbers. No track record with how it'll do with House.
It's doing better (relative to present-day ratings standards) than The X-Files did when it premiered in 1993.
However, given how much it cost to produce and promote, I don't see how Fringe can survive on the kind of ratings The X-Files had in its first season--particularly since The X-Files aired on Friday nights back then.
Anyone know how True Blood did? The second episode was much better than the first, and now I have to say I'm completely hooked! Can't wait for episode 3!

i've been saying this for years now. Thursdays would be a perfect spot for the Animation block
The perfect spot to die. The animated shows have been known for airing on Sundays for years. Why mess with success when Fox draws in the young male audience. And what would the net move here that would do all that well besides Bones, 24, or House? They aren't about to start sacrificing other nights to prop up Sundays when football already gives them a head start most weeks.
I honesty don't see how House and Fringe can fail. In their demos they have no competition. CBS with NCIS and the Mentalist will skew a little older, and those are its only real competition. ABC and NBC are reality driven. I think from 8-10 FOX will own the night.

Thats just it, I would't call it a success now. The numbers are falling on Sundays since the new year.
Yes, they still do good numbers, but as the year progressed, (New or repeats) the numbers got worse & worse. Besides, BONES and HOUSE don't seem to have a problem moving to new day and times, so why should the Animation Block?????
I agree that Fox will win Tuesdays in the demo but that doesn't mean Fringe and House will flow well together. They're very different sorts of programs. I also expect House to lose some audience from having to air at 8pm. The retention from House will decide in my opinion whether or not Fringe gets to stay on Tuesdays come midseason or whether or not it gets moved elsewhere and House regains its post-Idol throne.

I think a male-driven Bones would be a great fit in the Sunday 8 pm slot out of the obviously male-driven NFL lead-in.

House will obviously not fail and Fringe will be given every chance to succeed. I agree House will lose a little moving up an hour but this is a move many have clamored for FOX to make for awhile now.

My point is that the animated block would have trouble moving, especially the Simpsons at this point. Fox simply needs some new blood on Sundays in terms of comedies. We'll get that this year and hopefully King of the Hill will finally end. One of the main reasons ratings fell were because you never knew if episodes were new or not. Fox would interchange the new and repeat eps almost every other week. A smarter network would've simply waited for the new eps to pile up a bit and then air them all at the end of the year instead of all the confusion. Plus, many weeks one show would be new and the rest would be repeats. Hopefully Fox employs a bit more stability in the scheduling of new episodes this year.
Bones and House certainly did move around alright but can you imagine what could've happened had Fox decided to air a new ep, air 2 repeats, and then air a new ep all year? Ratings most certainly would've been less than what they got in the spring on Mondays. Hell, Fox didn't even have the animated shows air their finales on the same night last year. And you still haven't told me how the network would make up for the loss of House or Bones on the other nights of the week. Sure Idol eventually comes around but for how much longer, we don't know and in the fall you leave Tuesdays and Wednesdays just waiting to die. Fox has a good strategy right now. There's nothing wrong with the animated block on Sundays. The one thing they do need is another new drama or two to click and fill the holes on MONDAY and THURSDAY. They have a few mild players to support those nights but they need a solid lead off player for the fall. Come midseason, Hell's Kitchen and 24 can support the nights a bit better. Fridays can remain 5th Grader and Lyrics with other gameshows filling in at midseason and in the summer to avoid overexposure.
Don't rule out ABC's Dancing With the Stars or The Biggest LOser: Families on NBC.

Good Football Games Ignite CBS & NBC plus Fringe Has Repeat Value
BlueLick's Sunday Winners: NFL Overrun (CBS), Sunday Night Football (NBC), Big Brother 10 (CBS)
Solid: Fringe R (FOX), America's Funniest Home Videos R (ABC)
Needs to Move to Saturdays: 60 Minutes (CBS)
Let me start of by saying I enjoyed yesterday's NFL games and alot of them were disappointing to my football polls, but exciting finishes all day. The Chargers-Broncos game was exciting and the Chargers should've won that game as Ed blew that call big time. Browns-Steelers got good mileage getting 15-16 million viewers. So far SNF is off to a great start this year and I'm looking for a win against the slidding Emmys next week of 20 million viewers from Cowboys-Packers.
GO MATT CASSEL!
This is one of the last Sundays of the 2007-08 season where we see all of these repeats, but two of them stick out for me last night that's America's Funniest Home Videos and Fringe. AFV seems to live off of past reputation as I haven't seen this show in over 10 years, but it repeats so well. I get my crazy video fix from YouTube and other video sites. Fringe has repeat value as it held onto over 50% of their premiere audience. Fringe is one FOX may want to hold onto as its not easy getting almost 6 million viewers for a repeat scripted show now in days. Fringe will be in the class of X-Files, 90210, Melrose Place, Party of Five, NY Undercover, 24, House, and Bones as FOX's best rated dramas. Desperate Housewives had its best repeat numbers in a long time and it starts on syndication next weekend and already airing in bad timeslots on Lifetime right now on weekdays.
BB10, didn't watch it last night as I just can't watch Memphis for a whole hour, but this is shaping up to be a great season and I can't wait for Tuesday's episode.
CBS you've got an issue on Sunday night that should be addressed while you have the rights to the NFL on CBS. More than likely the NFL's highest rated network CBS will renew past 2013, but 60 Minutes should not be getting the lead-in anymore. CBS could've used BB10 behind that 18 million viewers. In my next paragraph I'm going to discuss Saturday nights and how the networks really need to start broadcasting originals on this night.
Weekend Fixes: Let me start off with Friday b/c I did not get a chance to write my ratings column on Friday or Saturday. 5th Grader and DFTL had a great Friday even though both were down. Alot of pre-emptions on Friday so I expected the downs and ups for news in the ratings. DFTL got 6.3 million viewers on a Friday last year that pretty much saved that series. 5th Grader will have alot of special episodes to get that rating between 8-9 million viewers. SD was affected by heavy amounts of pre-emptions and still winded up being The CW's top show this week against originals. CW is in trouble after September 26 when they lose SD for good to rising MyNetworkTV.
I think after seeing Olympics, SNL reach 11-12 million viewers, College Football, COPS, AMW all reach good viewer numbers that its time for NBC, CBS, and ABC to start programming original programming. ABC will be remaking Wide World of Sports so I'll give them a pass.
If Knight Rider fails on Wednesdays lets move it to Saturdays and how about CBS moving both Cold Case and 60 Minutes to Saturdays. This will allow CBS to bump their new programming with NFL games as a lead-in.
There was also some talk on a radio show I listen to here in the mornings that Saturday Night Live should help NBC produce half-hour sketch shows inside of prime-time on Saturday Nights. This will allow NBC to fix their comedy roster or maybe even air some of their mid-season sitcoms on Saturday nights. I don't think they will do that bad if they promote the night all week long.
Other Notes: JAIL got over 2 million viewers last Tuesday and Street Patrol did well also on their premiere night. MNTV is on the rise.
they should have kept Thank God You're Here and put that on Sat nights... primetime and/or late night.
