-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a Monday of mixed leadership, with the home of Dancing With the Stars, ABC, the most-watched network, and House-ignited Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49. CBS dipped to third in total viewers, with a second-place finish among adults 18-49. NBC was fourth in both categories, followed by the CW.
Dancing With the Stars opened the night for ABC with a hefty 18.27 million viewers and a 4.2 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9:30 p.m., building in every half-hour as follows:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 16.81 million (#1), A18-49: 3.7/11 (#1)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 18.37 million (#1), A18-49: 4.1/11 (#1)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 19.63 million (#1), A18-49: 4.7/11 (#3)
Sorry, Marissa Jaret Winokur, but it looks like your time is up.
Lead-out Samantha Who?, which is the only half hour sitcom on ABC’s fall 2008 line-up, dipped to 11.02 million viewers (#2) and a 3.2/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#3) at 9:30 p.m., followed by the season-finale of The Bachelor: London Calling at an improved 9.19 million viewers (#2) and a 3.3/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 10 p.m. Let’s be honest: without the support of Dancing With the Stars, Samantha Who? would lose considerable steam. Fans of The Bachelor, meanwhile, don’t need to fret: the cornball reality-competition will be returning in midseason.
Fox kick-off the evening with underrated drama Bones at 9.42 million viewers (#2) and a third-place 3.2/ 9 among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. But the real star of the night for Fox was, of course, part one of the two-part season-finale of Fox, which rose to 14.84 million viewers (#2) and a 5.8/14 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m.
CBS had a typical Monday with its combination of The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #3, 7.88 million; A18-49: #3, 2.9/ 9), How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #3, 9.02 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/10), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #3, 13.70 million; A18-49: #2, 5.0/12), Rules of Engagement (Viewers: #3, 10.72 million; A18-49: #2, 4.1/10) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 13.66 million; A18-49: #1, 4.0/10). Worth noting was the 31 percent growth in the demo for How I Met Your Mother out of The Big Bang Theory. Maybe Britney Spears should sign-on as a regular!
The return of NBC’s American Gladiators scored minimal interest, with a mere 4.92 million viewers (#4) and a 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#4) from 8-10 p.m. But the season-finale of lead-out Medium rose to a respectable (but still third-place) 8.57 million viewers and a 2.9/ 8 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m.
The CW had above average results with its revised line-up of Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 2.64 million; A18-49: #5, 1.2/ 3) and One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 2.65 million; A18-49: #5, 1.2/ 3), which fit like a glove together (and will remain on the night in 2008-09).
