----------
-Friday’s Winners: Nothing...there are no break-out hits on Friday, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
-Friday’s Losers: The Next Great American Band (ABC), Men in Trees (ABC), Friday Night Lights (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS won this first Friday (and second night) of the Nov. 2007 sweeps, with a first-place finish in households, total viewers and adults 18-49. ABC’s updated Friday line-up came in second overall in households and total viewers, and third in the demo. NBC, meanwhile, was just the opposite, followed by Friday Night Smackdown! on the CW and lowly The Next Great American Band on Fox. Word of advice to Fox: stop trying to clone American Idol. It doesn’t work.
CBS’ Ghost Whisperer and NBC’s Deal or No Deal shared dominance in the 8 p.m. hour as follows:
8:00 p.m. Deal or No Deal (NBC) Viewers: 9.30 million (#1), A18-49: 2.0/ 7 (#2)
One year earlier (on Nov. 3, 2006), the Jennifer Love Hewitt drama scored a heftier 11.12 million viewers and a 3.6/11 in the demo. And 1 vs. 100 in place of Deal or No Deal on NBC averaged 10.55 million viewers and a 3.2/10 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that was 60 percent higher in the demo.
The 8 p.m. time period debut of one of Mr. TV’s favorites, Men in Trees, was a real disappointment, with a distant third-place finish in total viewers (5.87 million) and adults 18-49 (1.5/ 5). Something tells me ABC will, unfortunately, cut back on the full season episode order for Men In Trees. It was no contest, meanwhile, in the 8-10 p.m. battle of the CW’s Friday Night Smackdown! versus Fox dud The Next Great American Band. Take a look:
Friday 8-10 p.m. Friday Night Smackdown! (CW) Viewers: 4.64 million (#4), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#4)
The Next Great American Band (Fox) Viewers: 2.31 million (#5), A18-49: 1.0/ 3 (#5)
Leadership was shared once again between Women’s Murder Club on ABC and CBS’ Moonlight at 9 p.m. as follows:
Friday 9 p.m. Women’s Murder Club (ABC) Viewers: 9.47 million (#1), A18-49: 1.9/ 6 (#2)
Moonlight (CBS) Viewers: 7.57 million (#2), A18-49: 2.1/ 7 (#1)
Also at 9 p.m. was NBC’s critically acclaimed but low rated Friday Night Lights, at just 5.45 million viewers (#3) and a 1.8/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3).
CBS led the 10 p.m. hour care of Numb3rs, with 9.24 million viewers and a 2.3/ 7 in the demo. But one year earlier, the crime drama was considerably healthier at 11.08 million viewers and a 3.2/10 among adults 18-49. Yes, HUT levels are dropping on Friday. Second was NBC’s Las Vegas (Viewers: 7.49 million; A18-49: 2.1/ 6), followed by the return of ABC’s 20/20 into the time period with 7.41 million viewers and a 2.0/ 6 in the demo.

The funniest thing is that is what 20/20 did it's first week in the 8pm slot. MIT did better then that, Grey's repeats, Bingo, other specials. People are forgetting one thing called A STRIKE THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING ON MONDAY. ABC's motto right now is if it is a scripted show USE THE FREAKING THING. The positive with Trees is it has a number of episodes in the can. It has like 10 new episodes plus the two that have not aired in the can. That is an additional 12 episodes or maybe more. That means when GW runs out of episodes quickly, Trees will still be airing originals in view of that. Shows are going to run out of new episodes in no time. Then it is repeats. Something tells me this will be a LONG STRIKE. The last one lasted 22 weeks which is almost SIX MONTHS. ABC has to use all their scripted shows now.
NGAB and MIT just need to be pulled ASAP. Both of those shows are done. Again, FOX should just air K-Ville repeats. Next week it's going to dip below 2 million. Even with the strike, there's nothing that can save it. So much for thinking that the time switch would save MIT. It dropped in ratings. Moonlight lost a million viewers this week. Not good. I wouldn't say everything on Friday is a disaster. CW has a hit in Smackdown as it consistently rates in the 4.5 mil range and 1.4 in demos.
MIT and Moonlight are dragging down the whole driday lineup for CBS and ABC. Another good procedural show is what ABC needs in order to beat CBS on fridays
Women's Murder Club seems to be fairly legit. CBS took a hit across the board from last week. FNL continues to skew relatively young, despite its awful viewer number, so it probably isn't going away.
So the move helped 20/20 but not much luck for Men In Trees. Honestly, is there anything else ABC can move to Fridays @ 8:00? There is Eli Stone. Supernanny did just as bad as Men In Trees if not worse when it aired on Friday nigths. Maybe Wife Swap but I don't think it would do much better. What can ABC do?
Pull shows when their is A FREAKING STRIKE. Are you crazy? The biggest day in Hollywood is about to start on Monday. It is a walkout of WGA. First of all LOL completing a full season order, most shows will not be completing a full season order if there is a strike. ALL SHOWS SHUT DOWN ON MONDAY. That means that is it, no PRIMETIME, NO LATE NIGHT, MOVIE STUDIOS SHUT DOWN. It could cost the industry billions upon billions of dollars. Do people understand the seriousness of this strike? The last one in 1988 lasted six freaking months. Trees will improve once GW goes into re-runs. GW has only filmed 10 episodes but has used about 5 of them. Pretty soon it is repeat CITY for it. The biggest day in Hollywood starts Monday. We might not even have a fall schedule next year. Heroes is wrapping up it's season. Lost might only be airing seven episodes this season. Everyone is scrambling as they speak. The walkout begins at midnight. Hollywood OFFICIALLY SHUT DOWN.
Men in Trees did just awful. A 4.1 and a 1.5 demo? I don't think they'll pull it until this strike is cleared up, but the episode order I think is going to get cut. I still think it may go up next week with DST ending tonight, but if it doesn't, that's it.
WMC did well, but sheesh at the demo!
FOX needs to pull Band immediately. Why in the world they let it air in the first place this week is beyond me.
Are people not realizing their is a strike happening? Are the seriousness of it? Cancel MIT is the dumbest idea. They have to use anything they have. By February all shows run out of new episodes. If strikes continues through Feb-March. The upfronts for Fall will be all reality TV. Everyone is predicting this will be a very long strike. It will rock the industry bigtime. Wife Swap will be back very soon. HOLLYWOOD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AFTER THE STRIKE
Probably a series low for NUMBERS esp in 18-49. It might have come close to that end of last year, but not quite.
I think this show is in a decline apart from the dynamic in the hours that precede it. Last week, when GW and MOONLIGHT shot up, NUMBERS was unchanged. Audience peeling off gradually, sometimes unnoticed, but unmistakeable.
WMC - somewhat surprised at the low demo. Probably suffering a bit by being the only show of its type on ABC and thus promotion, however substantial it may be, may not yield max returns. I thought it was significant that ABC bought time on USA to promote this on an L&O SVU rerun. Got to go where the crime fans are.
