Desperate Housewives however can't catch a break. Can't blame the viewers for running for the hills though. This season is just awful!
Shame about AiA. It's definitely the best new comedy this season (and the best show on CW's sked), but no one watches it!

I tottally disagree with you
IMO Cold Case is one of the most boring procedural i've ever watched (and i've watched plenty). I like DH this season, and AIA is decent but better than BBT?

I agree. Cruelty to animals cannot be charming. Also, Nathan Fillion was absent last night, but instead we got the non-convincing Gary Cole in a plotline I don't care about. I wonder how long ABC is going to beat the dead horse called DH.

This one is way way below last year. Last season it was getting 14-15 million, now it barely gets 11. Few shows had such a big drop

AiA offers something BBT cannot offer - some degree of social commentary, even critique of American suburban snobbery and middle class racism. BBT is just another mind numbing laugh track sitcoms, filled with stereotypes.
Cold Case isn't just another whodunit procedural. It allows you a window into the emotional terrain of its regular characters as well as the people involved with the crimes in a way shows like Criminal Minds can't. And of course, I've been a huge fan of Kathryn Morris since her awesome lesbian villain days on Xena, if anyone here remembers.

While EHC took a fairly strong drop in the ratings on its own over the first year at UPN, what really seeems to have hurt the show was the move off of Thursday night. EHC has not worked on Monday or Sunday at all and I think it has a lot to do with the large number of viewers available on Thursday night that were still looking for a mainstream comedy and had been abandoned by NBC.

Im shocked that a show about unfaithful wives has lasted that long.

I've never liked it much, but I wouldn't say it was a show about unfaithful wives.

I mean, would you say The Sopranos was a show about unfaithful husbands?

DH is a soap, and has typical plot elements for that genre.

What's unusual is that it focuses so heavily on several female characters, making them the protagonists, and the men the supporting players--Knots Landing did that to a much lesser extent, and lasted 14 seasons.

DH will be lucky to make it half that far. One reason for that is probably that it's a primetime soap/comedy hybrid. They were trying to cross Knots Landing with Sex and the City, and though I've never really enjoyed the results, it certainly made a splash in its first season.

Knots Landing could keep chugging along year after year, but DH had to keep topping itself, and you can only get so outrageous on a major network on Sunday night. Even now.

[QUOTE]CBS: Cold Case is still on track to have 1 more season.

QUOTE]

It's wayyyy to earlier to pronouce COLD CASE is only going to get one more season. It would not surprise me to see it on several more years.

I would have thought the season finale of BIG BROTHER would have pulled more viewers. It was nice of you to congratulate Adam Marc because I remember how angry you were when he made his retard comment. It was cruel for Julie to tell Sheila she just missed the so called CBS RUPERT prize where they reward their Pet Player...I hate that JAMES has 25K in his pocket today. He's a freak.

Yeah, but anybody who wants that can find it on cable--and in a much more sophisticated form.

The Riches, Weeds, Mad Men, Breaking Bad--can't say I'm crazy in love with any of 'em, but they're all leagues beyond AiA.

And so is The Simpsons, and you don't need cable for that.

Yes, Aliens in America is better than Big Bang Theory. BBT's idea of edgy/original is to make jokes about how smart guys are nerdy, like Star Wars, and have trouble with women. Aliens in America, meanwhile, took on registered sex offenders and converting your religion to get your mate as comedic topics last night. Aliens in America is a breath of fresh air.

Side note: how much is Big Bang Theory going to be hurt by the DoND 'Star Wars' theme? What's a nerd to do when shows come up against each other like that? Wink

I know, some of these comments i'm really getting a laugh out of. It almost beat Grey's Thursday night episode, it retained 95% of its audience from 1 year ago and ABC has to be ecstatic that it still does so well nearing the end of its 4th (and much improved) season. It also ranked 25% above any other show last night. I agree the gabi/carlos storyline is getting old and they dont really know what to do with poor Edie but the rest of the cast and storylines are pretty strong right now and obviously most viewers agree because they're not running away in droves contrary to popular belief.

Yeah, ABC is delighted that every year they spend more money on DH, and get lower ratings. Positively giddy, in fact.

Perhaps if AiA aired on Showtime or FX you would have been able to make that comparison.
And the Simpsons are way past their prime. In fact, even back in season five they were way past their prime.

DH went up from last week. The loss though from before the strike is still plenty.
