Prime-Time Ratings:
Monday 4/28/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
ABC: 13.68 million, Fox: 12.10, CBS: 11.24, NBC: 9.80, CW: 2.51

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 4.4 rating/11 share, CBS: 3.9/10, ABC: 3.7/ 9, NBC: 2.9/ 7, CW: 1.2/ 3

--------------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

---------------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC), House (Fox), Two and a Half Men (CBS), CSI: Miami (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
Bones (Fox)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
The Bachelor: London Calling (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a Monday of split leadership, with ABC first in total viewers and the home of House, Fox, No. 1 among adults 18-49. Another 90-minute edition of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars was the top-rated show of the evening, with 17.92 million viewers from 8-9:30 p.m. And it ranked second overall in the block among adults 18-49, with a 4.4/11 in the demo. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 16.73 million (#1), A18-49: 4.1/11 (#1)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 18.04 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/11 (#1)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 18.97 million (#1), A18-49: 4.7/11 (#2t)

I am no fan of Cheryl Burke (listen to today’s PIPodcast and I will remind you why), I thought the judges were very unfair when they gave Cheryl and partner Christian de la Fuente just 7 points each after Christian injured himself. Considering they said they were judging based on their performance prior to the injury, it should have been higher.

Dancing With the Stars led into sitcom Samantha Who?, which averaged an approximate 12.74 million viewers (#2) and a 3.6/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#3t) at 9:30 p.m. I stress approximate because the first five or six minutes in the time period were the final moments of Dancing With the Stars.

Clinker The Bachelor: London Calling closed the evening for ABC with a third-place finish in both total viewers (7.79 million) and adults 18-49 (2.6/ 7).

Fox’s underrated Bones opened the night with 9.68 million viewers (#2) and a third-place 3.2/ 9 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 8-9 p.m. That led into an original installment of House at a solid 14.51 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 5.7/13 among adults 18-49 (#1) at 9 p.m. Comparably, House built out of Bones by a significant 4.83 million viewers and 78 percent among adults 18-49.

CBS finished third in total viewers and second among adults 18-49 with its combination of The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #4, 8.16 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.0/ 9), How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #4, 8.87 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/10), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #3, 12.86 million; A18-49: #2t, 4.7/11), Rules of Engagement (Viewers: #4, 10.39 million; A18-49: #2, 3.9/ 9) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 13.59 million; A18-49: #1, 3.9/10). While CSI: Miami is still the dominant program at 10 p.m., year-to-year it dipped by 3.44 million viewers and cent among adults 18-49 (Viewers: 17.03 million; A18-49: 5.2/14 on April 30, 2007). Yes, that could be concerning.

Fourth-place NBC was on the map with a two-hour edition of Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #4, 9.89 million; A18-49: #4, 2.9/ 7 from 8-10 p.m.) and Medium (Viewers: #2, 9.63 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1/ 8). And the CW capped off the night with its recently relocated combination of Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 2.51 million; A18-49: #5, 1.3/ 3) and One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 2.50 million; A18-49: #5, 1.2/ 3). But once again Gossip Girl is expected to flex some muscle among young female demographics.

Wasn't this the "Star Wars" Edition last night?
If so, those are pretty low numbers for a Stunt episode. Look no different than a run-of-the-mill episode

OTH drops from its lead-in. House effect?

Is that an increase for Bones? The numbers look better than recent episodes off-hand. In fact those are the best numbers I can recall it for all season.

I know SAMANTHA WHO's numbers are a little inflated because of Dancing but hopefully they will hold up after that's factor in...and hopefully the adjusted # will still be RULES.

I wonder when DEAL will reach saturation point and go into ratings decline.

Gossip Girl beat out OTH in the demo slightly. I'm sure CW is creaming themselves... which is just sad to say considering it can't hit above 2.5 million viewers.

MEDIUM grew out of DOND in the demo again, good for them.

Looks like HOUSE is no longer the #1 scripted drama. Demos are still good, however.

Glad to see Bones perking up in the ratings now that House is on the same night it's basically where it was this fall. Fox treats this hidden gem like garbage. House itself was only slightly below at pre-strike, non-Idol-lead-in levels. And House coming into the 9pm time period didn't lower One Tree Hill's ratings as much as I'd expected (though enough so that Gossip Girl is now ever so slightly higher rated).

I am just wondering something here...has the OMG campaign for Gossip Girls really worked? I mean its ratings since the return have not been great by any means, so was it smart for the CW to put all of its marketing and promotional money behind one show and not spread it between the rest of the series on the net?

Peace!!

Oh nevermind... it was .01 above 2.5.

Dawn Ostroff must be so happy with that!

It was. Marc actually emphasized the fact that DOND see a jump @ 9:30 half hour on his mediaweek newsletter. The Big 4 shared the rating pie last night.

Yes, it did. Pre-strike hiatus, Gossip Girl was pulling under 2 million viewers without a lead-in (aka with Crowned as a lead-in). Now it's pulling the same numbers it was getting with ANTM as a lead-in. Now as successful as I think CW wanted the campaign to be... but it worked to an extent.

Is that why it didn't make it to the loser list? Starting to buy into the CW hype? Big Grin

After all the OMFG promos spent on GG, those numbers show CW is just crazy if it really plans to cancel Reaper.
