-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS and NBC opened the week on a winning note, with CBS the most-watched Monday network and NBC No. 1 among adults 18-49. A competitive second in the demographic was 24-ignited Fox.

Since we are all wondering how the battle of NBC’s Heroes vs. Fox’s 24 played out, let’s begin with the 9 p.m. hour. The first original episode of NBC’s Heroes in six weeks took the 9 p.m. hour, with 14.84 million viewers and a 6.5 rating/15 share among adults 18-49. Fox’s 24 was competitive with 14.44 million viewers (#3) and a second-place 5.4/12 among adults 18-49. Comparatively, the year-ago telecast of 24 (on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, and without Heroes in the mix) scored an almost identical 14.22 million viewers with a 5.8/13 in the demo, based on the final nationals.

Despite the severity of the competition, CBS’ Two and a Half Men was the most-watched show in the 9 p.m. half-hour, with 16.06 million viewers and a 4.9/11 among adults 18-49 (#3). That led into a typical (and third-place) 13.01 million viewers with a 4.2/ 9 among adults 18-49 for The New Adventures of Old Christine at 9:30 p.m. Although I personally have been touting Old Christine all season, last night’s episode was as enjoyable as having a tooth pulled!

CBS, NBC and Fox, in fact, were all neck-and-neck among total viewers in the 9 p.m. hour. Take a look:

Monday 9-10 p.m.
Heroes (NBC) - Viewers: 14.84 million (#1), A18-49: 6.5/15 (#1)
Two and a Half Men and Old Christine (CBS) – Viewers: 14.54 million (#2), A18-49: 4.5/10 (#3)
24 (Fox) – Viewers: 14.44 million (#3), A18-49: 5.4/12 (#2)

Also in the 9 p.m. hour was ABC’s Supernanny (Viewers: #4, 9.08 million; A18-49: #4, 3.6/ 8), and fading CW sitcoms Girlfriends (Viewers: #5, 2.23 million; A18-49: #5, 1.1/ 2) and spin-off The Game (Viewers: #5, 2.24 million; A18-49: #5, 1.1/ 2). Both comedies performed below year-ago repeats of Girlfriends and Half & Half.

Earlier in the evening, NBC’s Deal or No Deal won the 8 p.m. hour with ease at 17.56 million viewers and a 5.2/13 among adults 18-49. Next was Fox’s Prison Break (Viewers: #2, 9.90 million; A18-49: #2, 4.2/10), which the network has confirmed it is in discussions with for a third season, followed by ABC’s Wife Swap (Viewers: #4, 8.84 million; A18-49: #3, 3.5/ 9); and CBS’ How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #2, 9.55 million; A18-49: #4: 3.5/ 9) and The Class (Viewers: #4, 8.99 million; A18-49: #4, 3.2/ 8). While retention for The Class out of How I Met Your Mother was solid at 94 percent in total viewers and 91 percent among adults 18-49, its overall performance is not enough to land a spot on the 2007-08 schedule.

In the distant No. 5 spot from 8-9 p.m. were the CW’s Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.85 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3), which the network has already renewed for 2007-08, and All of Us (Viewers: 2.45 million, A18-49: 1.1/ 2). As a basis for comparison, repeats of UPN sitcoms One On One and All of Us rated higher on the year-ago evening.

It was business as usual at 10 p.m., with CBS’ CSI: Miami (Viewers: 18.67 million; A18-49: 6.0/15) a healthy No. 1; followed by the return of NBC’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (Viewers: 7.41 million; A18-49: 3.2/ 8); and ABC’s sinking What About Brian (Viewers: 5.40 million; A18-49: 2.6/ 7). Unfortunately, absence did not make the “heart grow fonder” for Studio 60, with retention out of Heroes of just 50 percent in total viewers and 49 percent among adults 18-49.

Clearly the winner last night at 9pm was broadcast network television. Practically no erosion whatsoever for either show!

Honestly, it's just unforgivable for Studio 60 to pull those ratings, with the press it's had, the lead-in it's had and (CSI Miami excepted) the lacklustre competition it's had from What About Brian.

And given how badly Studio 60 has dropped the ball, it's downright hilarious that WAB still can't pick it up and run with it.

What About Brian, is an awesome show. The cast has really come along this season and is in sync with the show. Give it a chance! It is a much better fit with Greys anatomy than that Men in Trees.

comparing 24's numbers to last year, looks like "BAUER POWER" has a built in audience that the new kid on the block (HEROES) can't make too big a dent in.

came to Heroes a little late; catching up on old eps on ITunes... just watched the cheerleader's little "surgery" mishap at the end of Chapter Three... I agree with her: "Holy Sh$*!" Eeker

I'm glad to have Prison Break back (I never thought I'd get into this show, but I've been hooked from the beginning!).

Very impressed to see that all networks held up in the 9PM hour last night with all the competition!

Almost makes Brian's 72% 18-49 retention look, pardon the pun, "heroic."

Yes, I do. CBS likes the show and I am sure it will be back. The Class is the show that won't make it.

Jason, you are right; last nite's episode was the best so far. It looks like the show will be even better next week.

Inside? If anything it is too outside.
How are all these people who are working on a live show that airs on Fridays going out to various dinners on Thursday?
