Well, get ready for the Chuck buzz machine to start heating up again. It is right behind Gossip Girl in buzz for a show that no one watches except for a few fanatics online.

I'm wondering if Parenthood is even going to get scheduled. Trauma got an extention. There's still more Mercy. Chuck and Heroes are scheduled. Plus they have a few reality shows that are going to debut mid-season and 100 Questions. They are running out of room.

I really enjoy V but I dont think airing after Lost will help it get much better ratings. It was greatly sampled and after that interest just faded away

IMO, the Chuck/Heroes block isn't going to work this year. It semi-worked last year, but the ratings for both shows were still low. Now, Heroes is down considerably this year, and NBC has basically given the night.

Now this NBC midseason schedule is going to be a complete head-scratcher to figure out. IMO, NBC made a mistake by ordering more Trauma. They should have ordered a full season of Law & Order instead, which really could have been used anywhere on the schedule if necessary. Chuck probably would have worked on Sundays, airing with Celebrity Apprentice. My guess for Parenthood is either Wednesdays 8pm or Fridays 9pm, and it could probably catch on in either slot (although the demo would be low on Fridays, for a show that could probably pull in a relatively high demo). Trauma or Mercy should move to Fridays at 9pm, IMO. Both have low demos, and both would be perfect for the night, especially Mercy. Sundays at 8pm could be Dateline, or Trauma, with Celebrity Apprentice 9-11pm.

Lost fans tend to go elsewhere after their show is over. So as I wrote yesterday, if ABC is looking at Lost to prop up V, I'm not sure how successful it will be.

I think it's noteworthy to say that Old Christine tied Accidentally on Purpose almost exactly in total viewers this week. It's demo was .6 lower, but do consider that it was airing at 8pm, on its own, while AOP had the high-demo-rated HIMYM as its lead-in. Not a good sign at all for AOP. It's nice to see the CBS comedies hold in finals, for once.

Travis, if it's even possible, do you think I could see the quarterly breakdowns for Old Christine and Gary Unmarried? I've always been interested in seeing where viewers tuned in and tuned out throughout the hour. Thanks!

Oprah announces end of her syndicated talk show Eeker

Oprah Winfrey will end her syndicated daytime talk show in 2011. The top-rated talk show host told her Chicago audience while taping tomorrow's episode that she will end her show on Sept. 9, 2011 -- at the conclusion of her current contract. The episode will air tomorrow. Oprah draws about seven million viewers a day and her departure was first reported a couple weeks ago. After the show concludes, she plans to focus on her cable network, OWN.

CBS statement:
"We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors. We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success. We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well."

Interesting that while Mercy grew from last week, Law and Order: SVU dropped a little.

So, Modern Family can actually repeat pretty well huh? The Middle almost hit its premiere numbers.

These are all valid points, although we might also note that Accidentally on Purpose is opposite House, Dancing with the Stars and football on ESPN. There is very little competition at 8 on Wednesday.

So NBC is ordering more episode for Trauma because its low on inventory. Next season, I think NBC need to stockpile a lot of new shows just in case.

Decent numbers from Mercy, if it can keep this up, I think a Mercy/Law and Order block would work on Fridays. Both are older-skewing and seem to have a decent sized audience. They do repeat them back to back on Saturdays. Hope SVU will inch up to a 3 in the demo later.

Good repeat numbers for MF and The Middle had a nice increase. Modern Family had a "meh" episode but almost hit a 4 in the demo. Cougar Town had a great episode (Travis "coming out of the closet" to Grayson was perfect!) and I hope retention will increase. I thought that interview would have done better.

Same decent numbers for CBS but Criminal Minds seems to have a really strong demo this week.

Glee seems to be stuck in the 7 million/3 in the demo rating which is not bad but I think it can be better. It had a great episode last night, Hilarious.

So, ANTM can't even crack 4 million anymore? The Vampire Diaries will beat it yet again won't it? That clip show didn't do much to draw interest.

True, but Mondays at 8pm is a high HUT hour, while Wednesday is a much lower on, based on previous data. If HIMYM can still put out strong numbers against House, why can't AOP? I think AOP is a great show, funny and underrated, but it needs to do better. This week, Old Christine looks very good compared to it.

While I love Chuck, I have to agree that the buzz is very high compared to its ratings. I wish they would try Chuck somewhere else. Mondays at 8 is a tough timeslot although it might be a little easier considering TBBT is out and AoP is in. I'm hoping for around 7 million/mid to high 2's in the demo.
