I'm all for that, and my vote is for David Archuleta. You know the young female crowd would tune in.

It'd be a huge mistake. In fact i think pairing Glee with AI is a huge mistake as well. FOX should be happy with those 7 million viewers, putting it after AI won't draw a much bigger number as the pilot already proved it. It's just a waste of a great slot, surely other shows would benefit more

Actually, compared to the number of viewers they get, they're 2 of the youngest skewing shows on CBS (think - if they got 14 million viewers like many CBS procedurals do, their demos would hypothetically would be 4.4-4.8, which is miles ahead of shows like CSI, CSI:NY, The Mentalist, etc). I had a feeling the MF would give Old Christine a boost, which hit another season high this week. Gary Unmarried, while shedding viewers, somehow managed to add .3 in the demo, which is fantastic.

Gary is actually closing in fast on AOP. Considering Gary is on a lower rated night, and has a much lower rated lead in its 2.5 demo vs. AOP's 2.8 demo is quite impressive. If I were CBS I would swap AOP and Gary. I think Gary would do very well on Mondays.

I'm not sure GU would do better than AOP on Mondays for now but i think it has better chances of improving with time. Anyway CBS should be happy having 6 sitcoms, all performing at least decently

CBS has to be content with these sitcoms. The fact that both shows won their half hours in the demo, won the hour as a whole in the demo, and reached season highs again is a very good thing, especially knowing that Wednesdays at 8pm have been one of the weakest hours of TV during the week.

I think CBS would be foolish to mess with this hour now, especially now that they seem to be building steadily. And, chances are Accidentally on Purpose would completely crash and burn if moved here. If Old Christine/Gary Unmarried can continue to stay competitive in the hour, and at least win in the demo, then they'll be fine.

While I'm all for Gary getting a Monday tryout, it is not compatible in my mind with HIMYM, 2.5 Men, and BBT. AOP is much more in line with these shows (even though there is the argument for pairing it with another female-led comedy in Christine). I think once AOP finishes its run (likely during the Olympics), Rules will simply go to Mondays at 8:30.

robert, what should FOX air after American Idol in 2010?

ABC ANNOUNCES THE PREMIERE OF THE SIXTH AND FINAL SEASON OF “LOST,” WITH A SPECIAL ALL-NIGHT EVENT ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2

ABC announces the premiere of the sixth and final season of “Lost,” with a special all-night event on Tuesday, February 2. A recap special will kick off the night from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET, followed by the much anticipated two-hour premiere from 9:00-11:00 p.m.

The series will then air in its regular time period – Tuesday nights from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET – beginning the following week, on February 9.

“Lost” stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Ken Leung as Miles, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Terry O’Quinn as Locke and Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana.

“Lost” was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender, Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Jean Higgins and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers. “Lost,” which is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii and premiered on September 22, 2004, is from ABC Studios.

Tuesdays at 9pm was a given for this show. I bet V will then go to 10pm, with DWTS going to 8pm, in March then.

But, why launch it so late, instead of mid-January like before? Seems like it would have been a good idea to premiere it in January, air it up until the Olympics, give it a 2 week break, then resume it. Now, it'll be airing against the Olympics.

I don't think the Olympics will be that big of a deal. I agree that the lineup you proposed is likely to happen with Scrubs and BOT airing Tuesdays at 8pm once Lost steps in and the Forgotten airing at 10pm until V returns in March/April.

I'm glad ABC is showing some balls by going head to head against the olympics. This is the last season who cares about the ratings? I'd rather see it air back to back even if it means going against olympics. LOST has aired against idol and held it's own... I somehow doubt that the winter olympics are going to be bigger than idol.

Probably to get away from the 2 hour American Idol episodes on Tuesday and to not take a break during The Olympics.

In this DVR age, I have no problem with ABC airing it then. And, ABC doesn't want to punt on Tuesdays, like they have in previous years. Besides, all the big Olympic moments will occur after 10pm eastern.

As the 2006 Olympics proved, the other broadcast networks can compete very well against NBC's big event, if they choose to. Not one single night of the Turin Olympics finished in the Top 3 most-watched programs of those respective weeks. American Idol was a big reason for that. CSI, the Dancing with the Stars 2nd season finale, Grey's Anatomy AND Desperate Housewives also outdrew those Games then. Even NBC's biggest night, the night of the Ladies Figure Skating final, managed to only rank 4th for that week.

For me, I will ditch the Olympics in the 9pm hour, watching American Idol while recording Lost. I will be mainly interested the Olympics for events (one, in particular) that will probably not air in primetime anyway... Big Grin

lol, it is the final season, so you're right. And I guess that going against the Olympics is better than going against the premiere of Idol, which usually does some of its best ratings in the first few weeks.

I wonder if Lost will be able to gain back any of its old viewers for the final season. It was doing what, around 9 million last spring? I bet we'll see the audience creep back in the final episodes at least. The 2 hour final should be pretty big in May.

I agree with you up to a point. I don't think the Turin Olympics will be a very good barometer for ratings... as NBC was in the unenviable position of having to tape-delay nearly all the live events because of the time change. In the advent of 24 hour news and instant updates via websites and blogs, a lot of the nation knew the results before they aired.

They learned their lesson in Beijing, and look what happened? Vancouver may not have a Michael Phelps, or even a Michelle Kwan/Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding story to promote... but I can see it doing much better than Turin for the simple fact of much of the big stuff being live in the Pacific time zone.

Lost will muddle through both the Olympics and American Idol, and will perhaps be the most time-shifted show in the history of time-shifting. Cool
