I am all for more comedies, but don't kid yourself thinking Sci-Fi is not "young" Both of those shows premiered to big demo numbers. its the QUALITY, or lack of, that is losing viewers for those shows.

Well, last night Ct was about 10 times funnier than MF. That was very boring episode of MF last night.

The only difference is that V and FlashForward are self-starters whereas Cougar Town is being propped up by Modern Family. Without MF, CT would be lucky to hit a 2.5 in the demo. And calling Cougar Town a "comedy" means that you have a really broad definition of the word comedy. Cougar Town is just about as funny as Schindler's List.
I don't think that the decline is just based on the fact that the show is getting older. It's been a huge decline this year which signifies in my opinion a bigger reason for tune out.

On paper, it looks like a good combination. However, I bet both of these are older skewing female and I wonder how much of a cross audience they will have with DWTS which is older skewing female. They could take each other out.

I would prefer to have another source besides Nikki Finke. Maybe "Variety" or "Hollywood Reporter". Perhaps this will be like the confirmation that the website After Elton posted a week or so ago that "Ugly Betty" was indeed moving to Wednesdays. Since then, the move (if it was ever going to be moved) seems to be off with ABC seemingly content to leave "Betty" on Fridays...at least for now.
The website TVbythenumbers.com speculates that the decision to "un-cancel" the modest performing "Trauma" may be because the network doesn't like what it sees in the miseason entry "Parenthood" (which has already failed once, as a comedy).
As far as the argument that ratings for "Trauma" have increased, this is what TVbythenumbers had to say about that...
"...the only ratings improvements we have seen have been in preliminary numbers which, when finalized showed no ratings improvements. Monday night’s Trauma scored a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating in the preliminary numbers, and a 1.8 in the finals. It’s better than a 1.7, but..."
Nikki Finke seems to have some really reliable sources within NBC Universal. Her leaks have been reliable in relation to NBC and was the first to announce the official Medium move to CBS and Southland move to TNT. Another source would help but I tend to think that it is a done deal.
I think it's a combination of things, the winners don't really have that much success post show so it generally seems like a major waste...then again I could say the same for Project Runway.
The show is getting old, just finished Cycle 13 not as much drama on the panel...need someone to stir things up with Tyra.
That being said I was happy with the finale, I liked both girls that made it to the end and my pick from the beginning actually won!

It could be better, but it could be worse. I think NBC has other problems for now.

It was only an ok episode, but nice to see close to a 4.0 demo!
On the possible un-cancellation of Trauma, it kind of makes sense. Sure the show isnt doing great, but its lead in (Heroes) is a dud too. Perhaps NBC can find a new lead in and Trauma will grow.

But Monday is really the only night they have for the shows. I would take on Dancing before I took on Idol. Also, I think Chuck and Trauma would be a good Wednesday pair, allowing SVU to go back to 10pm on Sundays after 2 hour Celebrity Apprentice eps. All of this would of course happen in March with January basically being used to burn off the rest of Heroes and prep some time period moves. They could introduce a few reality shows to fill the time as well. One other question is if Biggest Loser will wait to return until March or if they'll launch in January again and then go on hiatus for 2 to 3 weeks for the Olympics.

Cougar Town not a winner... neither ratings wise nor creatively. I heard the Obama administration is considering using episodes of Cougar Town as a substitute for water-boarding. I'd rather have a bat wrapped in barbed wire be stuck up my ass than watch another episode of this show. Thankfully Modern Family is slaughtering it ratingswise, last night was one of the weaker episodes of MF yet it funnier than all the episodes of CT combined.
Last night's Cougar Town was miles ahead of Modern Family, but I personally love all 3 ABC Wed. comedies.

Just watched both now, and I completely agree - hands down worst episode of Modern Family yet. Cougar Town was much better, but it's always been consistenly solid. Quality wise, the winner of the night was The Middle by a mile, though. Easily the best episode of the series so far.
And the ratings speak for themselves - clearly I was wrong, and the MF repeat did much better at 8pm. And, it gave a much needed boost to The Middle. If it can keep those ratings, The Middle could end up being a utility comedy player for ABC in the future.
The CBS comedies also did well last night - people trash the demos of both shows, but this is beginning to get on my nerves. The demos are not that bad at all. Actually, compared to the number of viewers they get, they're 2 of the youngest skewing shows on CBS (think - if they got 14 million viewers like many CBS procedurals do, their demos would hypothetically would be 4.4-4.8, which is miles ahead of shows like CSI, CSI:NY, The Mentalist, etc). I had a feeling the MF would give Old Christine a boost, which hit another season high this week. Gary Unmarried, while shedding viewers, somehow managed to add .3 in the demo, which is fantastic.
Glee also did well again last night - I thought it was a great episode, and was hoping the ratings would be slightly better, though. Mercy also saw an uptick. For some reason, I've been hearing a lot of chatter about this show lately. That could be a good sign.

Half-hour comedies skew young in general. Name one older-skewing comedy on TV. There aren't any...which why it amazes me that networks haven't focused on trying to program them.

Gary is actually closing in fast on AOP. Considering Gary is on a lower rated night, and has a much lower rated lead in its 2.5 demo vs. AOP's 2.8 demo is quite impressive. If I were CBS I would swap AOP and Gary. I think Gary would do very well on Mondays.
