I think the OC was also drastically hurt by starting in November...by now, many fall viewer habits are set - to launch a new season - even of a previously successful show - so late in the fall - and against the two strongest competitors on TV - just suicide.

I like the idea of dropping it back to 8pm and follow it with reality/game show programming...how about a remake of Greed? How quickly could FOX get such a project on the air?

I still feel the need for Greed, Noelk1. That would be a dream! But I doubt a reality. I never understood why Fox was so quick to cancel Greed.

I never understood the appeal of The O.C., by the way. Not even in season one when it had an audience.

I don't think moving The OC to 8 would help. It no longer has the ability to anchor a night. And Fox doesn't want another reality show getting what The Rich List got this week. The OC should move to Wednesday at 9, so it has at least a little support from Bones, and isn't up against Grey's which is where I'm sure most of the OC fans went. Then, American Idol should move to a Wednesday-Thursday schedule, which should REALLY help The OC. Put Bones on Thursday at 8 and the AI results show can make Thursdays at 9 even more interesting. That would really be fun.

I don't think Mischa's death was as big of a deal as people think. Her death was just another part of the show. Lets face it, yes people are mad, but this is not why it lost 3 million viewers. Ryan was always the main focus of the show. His and Marissa's relationship was a part of him growing and her death is another step in his life. By killing of Marissa, the show can now focus on him growing from the tragedy. Fox didn't advertise for it and the show is against the top 2 shows on TV. That to me is the main reason why it lost viewers.

Here is a progression of the four losers for last night in regards to past neilson ratings

Til Death (Fox) 6.5 5.1 3.9 4.4 3.7 3.4 3.3
Happy Hour (Fox) 5.1 3.7 3.3 2.5
The O.C. (Fox) only have one rating of 2.6 - but pretty poor for a new season opener
Six Degrees (ABC) 9.3 7.5 6.9 6.5 5.7 5.4

in regards to the stock pricings for these shows - at this point, each one is free-falling and has only one direction to go. My advice - short-sell them because then you'll gain more tvbux$ as they fall. And it looks like the networks may keep these shows running a while longer to ensure they collapse completely.

Marc I never understood the appeal of the OC either but FOX killed it. Marc what bozo decided to put a female skewing show against Grey's Anatomy? That is the most inane thing considering it is the hottest show on TV and number 1 show on TV. If you have a young female centered show, would you ever want it against Grey's Anatomy? I remember during the years of Friends that most stayed away from putting those shows against it. Grey's Anatomy reminds me of Friends. It has the same buzz and popularity that Friends in the early years. Meredith/McDreamy are the Ross/Rachel of the show. Marc can you see the similarities between Grey's/Friends? I just wonder how much money the Grey's actors will start making. I bet huge pay increases. I would not move the Idol schedule. It is too lucrative and profitable to be messed with. Idol/House combo is huge. IMO stay out of the CSI/Grey's warzone.

I'll tell you why Fox scheduled it there Jonnysbro, they don't want the OC anymore. The show is the only teen phenom left on Fox. Fox doesn't want the teen image anymore. They are trying to play to older viewers and the OC is a rut in their pathway.

I've gotta be honest. I, too, was bored with Grey's Anatomy last night. ER is still a better show.

Marc, do you think that Supernatural is in any kind of trouble by having such weak numbers? I know you said that The CW can live with it, but given such a strong and compatible lead in (Smallvile), don't they expect a better performance?

By the way, with Mischa Barton's departure I won't be watching it anymore. I mean they killed the leading lady, is there anything more disrespectful towards the fans?

I thought the numbers for the OC would at least be better but I hope that Fox makes a move quickly -- it's a great show that deserves to be saved -- I agree it should be moved back to it's Wed time slot at 9 so that it may follow bones and wouldn't be up against Grey's anatomy, CSI and Deal or no deal. But they probably won't move it because of american idol. they should move american idol to wed/thursday -- House can stand on its own why they feel they need to have AI as it's lead in its just stupidity. SAVE THE OC -- anyone who saw the first four episodes agrees that it has returned in quality.

FOX is moving The OC from the crowed Thursday @ 9pm timeslot to the slightly-less-crowded Wednesday @ 9pm slot. Not officially permanent, but probably will be. Hey, now I can TiVo it (Lost is the only 9pm show I watch, while I watch two on Thursday at 9pm)!

Mischa Barton's wooden acting is one of the reasons why I stopped watching The O.C. in the first place, but not the main reason, that would be the many boring storylines in seasons 2 & 3.

As for the appeal of the O.C.: season 1 was funny, fresh and exciting. Sorta like a cooler much better written verion of BH 90210.

Anyhow, I doubt MB dead on the show had much to do with the extremely low ratings. I consider it much more likely that the fierce competion at 9PM (mainly Grey's Anatomy) and the late season premiere is to blame for that. Well, that and the fact that season 2 & 3 pretty much sucked ass and many people (like me) have given up on the show.
