Marc isn't it time for ABC to give Trees the one time Thursday next week. Men in Trees is scheduled to air on Friday, so just put the new episode on Thursday and the Six Degrees episode on Friday. Nobody could care less about the boring/pointless Six Degrees. The show is a mess and I am surprised ABC has not cancelled this show sooner. Marc I love my TREES so much and what better then a one time airing after Grey's next week.
Unfortunately for the OC, it looks like its ship hasn't just sailed, but gone ahead and sunk. I wonder if they'll even finish out the season (which, from what I understand, already had a shorter episode order - 17, I think?). Too bad, because as someone who loved the OC in Season One, and suffered through Season Two, only to throw up my hands at Season Three, I have to say that watching the Season Four premiere on myspace.com made me think it was returning to form. 'Course, I, like obviously quite a few other people, DIDN'T watch it last night.
Marc, do you think the fact that episodes on most of the major networks are now available to stream for free either weeks ahead of, or days after, would affect the show's ratings? Look at Lost, for example. If people know that it is no longer required viewing, since they can just catch it on their PC the next morning, would they find themselves clicking to something else (say, Criminal Minds) that they haven't previously watched?
But if ABC thought highly of Men in Trees, they wouldn't have taken it off for the first night of the November sweeps, would they? Instead they're airing a rerun of Grey's and a two-hour 20/20. Seems odd to me, but then I don't like Men in Trees, so I'm surprised it's lasted this long!

What's the 20/20 about? Sometimes they just do these things...
I wonder if they're planning to do what NBC ought to have done with Friday Night Lights this week... air the show out of a strong lead-in, and have another new episode the next day (while FNL was a repeat the next day). Maybe we'll see a one-time Men In Trees after Grey's next week, and another new episode on Friday the 10th.

I think that has a lot to do with it, Shadow. You no longer have to be around to watch the show at its regularly scheduled time because you know you can easily find it before or after. SO why bother? But the slide for The O.C. was absolutely mammoth, and that's because they killed off Mischa I think.

Carrie I'm right there with you on the OC and Fox. Idol is the only show that can salvage the networks Thursday lineup but that would come at a major price in my mine. I think the better option would be to have the OC air at 8pm with a cheap reality show to follow. With DOND leaving Thursdays it would be a good counter programming move. Plus I think the OC would gain some viewers back if it were not facing Grey's Anatomy. Trading Spouses and Nanny 911 would be possible contenders for 9pm.
Maybe Fox should just be off the air on Thursdays and Fridays! Seems like they can't get anything to work on those nights, and even the CW gives them a run for their money!
Like most other people who watched OC in its first season, I stopped watching and never went back...and I wasn't even a fan of Mischa Barton. It's the nature of water cooler shows...most burn brightly initially and die quickly. Maybe the teens have gone on to watch stuff on cable...Disney Channel shows have more viewers than for the OC.
I don't think the poor ratings for "The O.C." really have that much to do with the death of Mischa Barton's character. It's because the show had become so boring and depressing at the end of last year no one really wanted to continue with it--combined with the fact that a huge portion of "The O.C.'s" audience (young females) is watching "Grey's Anatomy" now in that time period. Too bad, though, because last night's episode was pretty good, far better than almost anything from last year's season.

That because Smallville and Supernatural are really good shows. I personally don't think that these ratings boxes are a good way to rate the CW. No one that I've ever known even has one and I know allot of people who watch Smallville.
