Kind of odd that the shows have different episode orders. A repeat of Big Bang with new episodes of 2.5 Men and HIMYM? Perhaps 2.5 Men and HIMYM are getting the post-Super Bowl slot?
Sometimes I really think CBS does not give The Big Bang Theory the credit they deserve for the great numbers it is putting up. They never give it much promotion. All they do is simply tack on a 10 second promo with Two and a Half Men's promo every week, and only promote Men as the # 1 sitcom, while never mentioning that BBT has become # 1 with younger viewers.
It sounds like BBT's season will end a week early like last year while ROE gets the 9:30 time slot for that week. If you remember they did that last year with ROE airing in BBT's 8:00 time slot and then again at 9:30. So much for becoming the # 1 sitcom on TV in the demo. This is the nice reward CBS gives them. A shorter season than Men and HIMYM.
Well, to be fair, I would think it would be harder to advertise a show as number one in a certain demo (which most of the public probably won't understand) than as a number one show in viewers (which everyone can understand).
I know you love TBBT but are you really accusing CBS of giving it the shaft compared to the other comedies? Remember, they can still increase the number of episodes too. Are the promo ratios for the comedies that slanted?
Well, FOX promotes The Cleveland Show as the # 1 new show, because it has the highest demo, while CBS never recognizes its demo leader. All they do is promote Men as the # 1 sitcom.
They did the same thing to BBT last year giving it 23 episodes while HIMYM, Men and CSI : Miami all got 24. It may be only one episode, but to me it is symbolic of their thinking. How in the world does the # 1 show gets one less. They obviously wanted an extra half hour for ROE, like last year, and I think it is just a slap in the face that they cut BBT one episode short of the other two sitcoms for the second year in a row. I just think the network should recognize the incredible numbers this show has put up this season.
Fair enough, I can totally see where you stand and why.
I do think that CBS does know what kind of hit it has on it's hands though. I've watched a few episodes and it's a pretty fun half hour.

I don't mean to be repetitive, but when the show got 23 last year when it is was a decent performer at 8:00, while its sitcom peers got 24 was one thing. However, for CBS to cut it one short of its sitcom peers this year is just a big slap in the face. The numbers it has put up this season are incredible, and CBS should recognize this. For them to give it one less than the others is just a lack of respect for one of their best performers.

I see where you are coming from and everyone here can be repetitive so don't worry about that.
Perhaps one reason is that CBS could be worried that Chuck Lorre might be overextended a little. He has two hit shows that he needs to make sure that the quality stays consistent. It's like Seth McFarland with his three animated shows. Like pisher said, he'll be over extended sooner or layer and the shows will suffer. I would guess that CBS would want to overextend Lorre.
That or CBS will just order more episodes later. Do we even have an official report of these increasing episode orders?
I think that the Monday the NCAA Tournament ends, they have regular programming from 8pm-9pm EST before the game (and show that hour after the game on the West Coast), so HIMYM and 2.5 Men could both do original eps that night and they'd still have the extra episode for May Sweeps. That could be why BBT didn't get the 2nd extra episode.

No, they always show repeats before the NCAA title game. I am willing to bet anything that BBT ends a week early and ROE gets that 9:30 time slot just like last year when BBT ended a week early and ROE got its 8:00 time slot. That is really the way to respect the new "real # 1 sitcom". Cut its season one episode short of the other two Monday night shows.
I don't think that BBT not getting 2 extra episodes is symbolic of anything. Ultimately, it comes down to how many episodes can actually be produced, and that may be 1 fewer in the case of BBT, for whatever reason.
As well, HIMYM and 2 1/2M are the night anchors. they will slot a repeat of BBT after a new 2 1/2 M, but never the other way around.
As for the post-SB slot, if CBS is smart (and yes, I think they learned from slotting Criminal Minds there), they'll air BBT, followed by another sitcom, probably HIMYM. CBS knows that its comedy future depends on BBT, so don't worry about.
Impressive numbers for V. I really liked it, but was expecting not to. It was rushed yes, but what's the point of dragging out plotpoints that people can readily look up on Wikipedia, or saw the first time around? I mostly watched for Elizabeth Mitchell, but stayed because it was pretty good.

It just doesn't make any sense that they cannot produce an extra episode of BBT when this is November. If it was later in the season it might have some merit. With months to plan they could produce as many episodes as needed of almost any show.
As to the post SB slot my prediction is either The Mentalist or HIMYM. I watch these things carefully, and I don't think CBS respects BBT as much as some of us here do. I think they think it is simply living off the Men lead in. They don't tell you that the previous occupants only held only 75-80 % of Men while BBT builds on it. Just watch the CBS NFL Sunday games ( I have NFL Sunday ticket and see all the promos around the country) they always promote Men much more than BBT. Like I said, they obviously had to give 2 of the 3 top sitcoms 24 episodes, while one of the three only got 23. They made their choice, and it speaks volumes.
I may be the minority on this but HIMYM and BBT have a weird commonality for me.
My favorite episodes center on a non main character (Barney/Sheldon - the 2 best characters in comedy today, imo) while I don't particularly care for the lead (Ted/Leonard). It might just be me though.

Good comparisons, but I really think Barney and Sheldon have become the leads even though they did not start out that way.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe they have storylines that work better for 23 eps for some shows and 24 for others or maybe cost is another factor here? Does this really matter?

Yeah they don't respect BBT. They only gave it the number one plump spot for any comedy to be airing in!

If you would read carefully for once I am actually kind of agreeing with you. You are always the one who says that CBS will move BBT to Wednesdays next season while I say they would never do this to their # 1 show. Well, I am finally admitting you may be right. This is the second year in a row BBT got 23 while the other two got 24. They need that extra show for ROE. You remember last year ROE aired twice in the last week. Well, CBS obviously values Men and HIMYM more if they chose BBT to have fewer episodes even though it has a 5.0 demo for the season.
IIRC, I think that last season, CBS originally did ask for 24 episodes and then later CUT the order to 23.
I think the lower # of episodes have more to do with the production of the show. Wasn't BBT the very 1st scripted show to run out of episodes once the writers went on strike? I remember when the show first premiered that the production pace for the show was VERY slow.....
