AFV and EM:HE are two of the most underrated shows on the schedule. They both deliver very solid ratings for ABC. In fact, ABC may solve their Friday problem by putting AFV there.
I'm not sure how the football overrun will affect the final numbers, but looking at what we have, really good numbers for 60 Minutes. Over 4 in the demo is fantastic for this show that will always be old skewing.
However, CBS has sprung a leak in The Amazing Race. It lost a good chunk of 60 Minutes viewers and demos that Cold Case had to get back. It is not a Sunday at 8 PM show. My suggestion: move it Wednesdays at 8 PM mid-season. Then put something else there Sundays at 8 (perhaps Million Dollar Password). Cold Case and especially The Unit is doing as well as CBS expected them to do.
Talking about springing leaks, DH and B&S are both on the decline. While DH's numbers are OK, B&S lost a good chunk of the DH lead in. As I said before, something else has to go after DH before it ends and attempt to use whatever lead in is left.
For FOX, Family Guy is impressive but the rest seems to just be doing OK. The new arrivals should create some more interest in the animation lineup.
CW's numbers are just horrible. There's really no way to spin it. I didn't think CW could go lower than their CW Now/Online Nation/Life Is Wild/ANTM encore lineup and now they have. Going under one million in viewership for the night is never good. Unfortunately for MRC, these show concepts are having a hard time finding an audience. F.A.T. City sounds more appealing so maybe it will be the show to get the MRC block started.
So THE AMAZING RACE pretty much held steady from last week...that's welcome news especially since this episode was mor exciting than the premier.
Terrance is a real piece of work.I've never seen a man so insecure...with that said I hope he and Sarah stick around-they have great entertainment value. Tina has emerged as a semi-villian.

True enoguh. For all the talk about how 'modern man' is able to use a channel changr and sample new programming, viewers prove time and time again that the opposite is true.

Big week two drops for DH and B&S.
Also true, but the bigger surprise to me was the 5million or so viewer drop for the NFL on NBC. I know it was two small market teams, but it was still a close game with one of the premiere teams of all-time playing. It should have done much better.

Agreed. ABC is starting to look like it will have a big year-to-year loss.
Also of note: pending finals the NFL runover on CBS boosted 60 Minutes by about 4 million viewers (and 1.9demo), but virtually none of them stayed for the other shows, including The Amazing Race which usually gets a big boost from the NFL runover. Is it just me or is this a surprisingly boring crop of racers this season?
CBS won Week 2 convincingly in both the young adult A18-49 demo and average viewers, with NBC coming in second in A18-49 and ABC ranking second in average viewers.
Sunday night year-over-year numbers were down in single digits: -5% in households, -9% in viewers and -8% in households. For all of Week 2, households were down -10%, viewers down -10% and A18-49 down -13%, although those numbers are expected to improve once MyNetworkTV numbers are released for Friday (WWE) and Saturday (Walking Tall).
Finally, The CW managed well through their first non-WWE week, ending up with an average 2,425,000 in viewers (down just -4% from last year) but at the same time seeing an improvement in A18-49 demo from 1.03 to 1.13 (up +10%). The CW and MyNetworkTV were the only two networks to show year-over-year improvement in numbers, while NBC and ABC both suffered large double digit declines from last year.
Next was old faithful 60 Minutes at a first-place 16.42 million viewers and a 4.1/11 in the demo from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Does 60 Minutes usually get this kind of demo after football? It's higher than Amazing Race.
Yes and no. Normally No, but when there is a overrun of usually over 10 minutes then typically yes.
I am curious what is the demo after 25-54 anyone know. Last week Amazing Race (the youngest show on CBS sunday lineup) beat all the other shows in the 18-34, 18-49 and the 25-54 demo group with the smallest audience.

It goes beyond the platform, though, IMO. it speaks volumes for viewers being very willing to hold on to their old shows, but fewer and fewer viewers being willing to try new shows. The CBS Friday 9pm slot is another good example of this. Look at Close to Home vs. Moonlight vs. The Ex-List. Every new show brings fewer and fewer viewers even willing to give it a shot.

Not really so welcome. With a much stronger lead-in, TAR should have gone up. Holding steady is a defacto disappointment.

All the networks took big drops aside from CBS (which benefitted early in the evening from the football runover. Was there something 'big' on cable this week that wasn't around last week?

Forget abot CW, the real loser is once again ABC. Terrible numbers for DH and B&S. As i said jumping 5 years ahead was a stupid stupid idea. I hated the first 2 episodes, and clealy i'm not the only one. With these numbers in october wonder how DH/B&S will do in spring
OK, now to CW. The numbers are terrible i agree, but once again i'm wondering what are MRC's expectations. After all EM is close to Mad Men numbers. And AMC has been longer than MRC in TV business
Robert, I could tell this post was yours without even having to look at your name at the side. If a show isn't on CBS, for some reason you seem to think it's doing terrible. Classing both DH, B&S "terrible", the same word you used to describe CW's shows is just plain wrong. Yeah, DH & B&S may be down, but these are still great numbers, you could call them disappointing at a stretch. You never give shows that don't air on CBS enough credit. DH/B&S ratings are hardly terrible. DH is in it's 5th year, and still manages to pull out great numbers. Saying that, I don't even watch DH/B&S. But yeah, the CW sunday lineup is TERRIBLE. You couldn't also put the word "extremely" infront of "terrible", and I'd still agree.

I'll just say one thing. If CSI goes below 15 million by its second episode i'll write here : "terrible night for CBS". It's not my fault or CBS's that it's doing so good this season

Actually this was a terribel result for Amazing Race. Since it moved to Sundays this will be the smallest audience of any sports overrun episode (and they usually bump the ratings up a minimum of any where between 250,000 to 3 million in viewers).
For the fall cycles (on Sunday) this is currently the lowest average after two episodes.
Even during the Spring All-Stars they scored higher with their 2 overruns from sports.
Big week-to-week drop for DH! It was kind of expected since extra people probably tuned into the premiere to check out the five-year leap, but still, 3 million and 1.2 in the demo is a significant drop. B&S's drop was smaller, but still not good. I'm not saying that either show is in trouble, but ABC has to be a little worried that all their shows are going to drop this week.
CBS's numbers are approximate because of the overrun, but based on these Cold Case and The Unit held pretty even week-to-week. This is a make-or-break time for The Unit. If it can keep these numbers, I think CBS will be happy.

----------
-Ratings Breakdown: As for the CW’s new night of programming from Media Rights Capital, sit down and grab yourself a bucket before I unveil the results. On that note…
Reality series In Harm’s Way opened the evening with a mere 676,000 viewers and a 0.3 rating/1 share among adults 18-49 from 7-8 p.m. One year earlier, failed magazines CW Now (Viewers: 790,000, A18-49: 0.3/ 1 on Oct. 7, 2007) and Online Nation (Viewers: 700,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1) averaged 745,000 viewers and a 0.3/ 1 in the demo on Oct. 7, 2007. Next was the premiere of the scripted Valentine at 1.10 million viewers and a 0.3/ 1 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m., which was down from year-ago failed occupant Life Is Wild (Viewers: 1.65 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 1 on Oct. 7, 2007) by 550,000 viewers and 25 percent in the demo. And the premiere of drama Easy Money dropped to 1.08 million viewers and a 0.4/ 1 among adults 18-49. One year earlier was a repeat of America’s Next Top Model at 1.35 million viewers and a 0.5/ 1 in the demo. Needless to say, last-place the CW must really be cringing day. Horrible…just horrible!
As disappointing as the opening night MRC-CW Sunday numbers were, they were relatively comparable to last season and not quite as grim as I feared from this mornings metered market results.
That being said, MRC and The CW must take some quick steps to try to salvage these precious shows, especially the dramas. Next Sunday, The CW-MRC should pull the '4real' double-up and the 'In Harm's Way' encores from the 5-7 pm Easyview slot, and replace them with encores of 'Valentine' and 'Easy Money'. This Easyview encore strategy should continue until the original numbers start to strengthen...they can still use the 'In Harm's Way' original at 7-8 pm, and when those episodes run out, they can replace them with the '4real' half-hours (has anybody heard how '4real' rated in the 5-6 pm timeslot?).
Finally, glad to see 'The Unit' get such a good number, despite airing so late on the east coast (starting at 10:30 pm). Next week, with no football overrun, should give a good indication of how it rates at 10-11 pm.
