Blue Collar TV is exactly the type show networks should be looking at if they want to reinvent the variety show. It had a decent sized audeince and did well for the WB.

The only problems with Blue Collar TV were:
A: It was on the WB- the most un-blue collar network around at that time.
B: The WB felt the need to air it in several timeslots in just a few seasons. It would be in my opinion, a good revival for MyNetworkTV. Perhaps it would get the smackdown audience to come over.

I agree with mushu...this series would fit within the MyNetworkTV sked quite nicely, and have good cross-over to their other M18-49 focused series.

It got very good numbers for The WB in the first season, and only fell in the second season because it was thrown to the wolves on Sunday (up against 'Desperate Housewives') and barely promoted.

The first season of 30 episodes averaged 1.4 A18-49 and 3.4 million viewers (its preem got 5.4 million viewers to watch).

The second season of 13 episodes (where it got moved to Sundays at 9 pm) averaged 1.0 A18-49 and 2.4 million viewers.

However, this Sunday at 9 pm performance was not enough, and when The CW was formed, 'Blue Collar' was one of the first series jettisoned by the newly merged network. The new braintrust running the network seemed particularly hell-bent on getting rid of 'Blue Collar' and 'Reba', and 'Reba' was only saved because of that contractual two-season pick-up that The CW couldn't wiggle out of.

I don't think you bring back Blue-Collar TV at all (It had its chance). But you use that tone and feel to create a new Variety show.

those chimps were smart enough to program a sweeps win.

Once again the ABC chimps can't figure out how to program holiday evenings. Pushing Daisies can't hit 5 million. Private Practice original ep that could air on Thursday is wasted again. Barbara saves the evening and probably sweeps. Its not that hard. The Polar Express would've been an easy fix for last night into the news special. Then they could've found a pair of other holiday movies for tonight and Friday.

Those chimps LUCKED into a sweeps win.

Not even considering the CMA's instead of their Wednesday night crapfest or 5,000 hours of DWTS, take out the ratings for election night and those two college football games, and then let's talk about ABC's great sweeps performance. Roll Eyes

The only thing ABC does well yet are sweeps stunt programming, but sweeps are meaning less and less all the time. ABC could've had a better 18-49 demo with the Polar Express on Wed. along with the Walters special. Then the new eps of Private Practice could've aired these next three weeks to higher rated results. If ABC was wise now, they would ship Pushing Daisies to Saturdays and find something to fill that Wed. 8pm hour (perhaps more news specials or something) as long as original episodes of PP are airing on Wed. There's no sense in hurting a show you're trying to save. If ABC were the brilliant sweeps programmers you claim they are, they wouldn't have been airing shows that were canceled at all (as much as I love all three of them). Primetime in place of Eli Stone and other programming in the third week in place of Pushing Daisies would've made much more sense and helped the Tuesday-Wednesday numbers.

I don't mind counting football or the CMAs even but ABC really overdid the Dancing this time around. The unnecessary recap specials are only going to dilute the franchise in the long run. As long as ABC is airing Dancing twice a year, it should only have an hour long performance show and a 30 minute results show.

Since CBS doesn't feel the need to put Christine up on its website, I didn't see the past two eps of that but Gary was very very enjoyable. ABC should go after these types of comedies to pair with Dancing with the Stars next year as they appear to share a good chunk of similar audience.

The Polar Express did not do better than PP and probably would have done worse on Wednesday when much of its audience was otherwise busy.

Ok, here's the thing that gets me about ABC's college football games. Yes, CBS and FOX benefit from NFL overruns, NBC benefits from SNF and the wildcard playoff games, and CBS and NBC benefit when they have SEC and Notre Dame games run into primetime. However, the difference is that each of them paid for the rights to these games, ABC didn't. Disney simply had their legal department work their ESPN contract to allow ABC to air these games.

Oh, and Mushu is right about DWTS. ABC is jeopardizing the chance of the show having a longer shelf-life with all of these expanded editions and recrap shows.

I'm just so curious to see how long ABC goes in January and February without Football and DWTS. Wink

It's not ABC's fault that CBS has such a bad news division and 60 minutes with Obama wasnt a sweep stunt?
