-Yesterday’s Winners: Baseball World Series, Game 6 (Fox), Criminal Minds (CBS), CSI: NY (CBS)
-Honorable Mention: Modern Family (ABC)
-Yesterday’s Losers: Hank (ABC), The Jay Leno Show (NBC), Eastwick (ABC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: Fox, no doubt, dominated the Wednesday ratings, with the sixth (and final) game of the Yankees/Phillies Baseball World Series match-up at a series- high 21.15 million viewers and a 6.9 rating/18 share among adults 18-49 in primetime. Congratulations, Yankees! Comparably, that beat the Big 3 nets – ABC, CBS and NBC – combined among adults 18-49. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
CBS lost some steam opposite baseball, as did ABC and NBC, but there was still plenty of interest from 9-11 p.m. The Eye net finished second in every half-hour with its combination of The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: 6.99 million; A18-49: 2.1/ 6), which heads into off-network syndication next fall, Gary Unmarried (Viewers: 6.67 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 5 – tied in the demo with ABC’s The Middle), Criminal Minds (Viewers: 11.98 million; A18-49: 3.2/ 8) and CSI: NY (Viewers: 11.64 million; A18-49: 2.7/ 7).
Next was NBC care of full season renewed freshman medical drama Mercy (Viewers: #3, 6.60 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.7/ 5), which defines the word generic, relocated Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #3, 7.99 million; A18-49: #4, 2.5/ 6), which continues to lose to Criminal Minds, and ongoing dud The Jay Leno Show (Viewers: #3, 4.73 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 4). If NBC drops Leno after this first very long season, the first thing it should do is move SVU back into the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour.
Over at ABC, laugh-challenged Hank remains incapable of anchoring the evening with just 5.33 million viewers (#4) and a last-place 1.4/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. Every time I watch (and I am not sure why I do), I keep expecting David Hyde Pierce to stop by and tell Kelsey Grammer this is all a bad dream. Maybe that could be the final episode. Next was Malcolm in the Middle-like The Middle (Viewers: #4, 6.14 million; A18-49: #2t, 2.0/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.), which built from Hank by a hefty 43 percent in the demo, followed by Modern Family (Viewers: #3, 8.59 million; A18-49: #2, 3.4/ 9), Cougar Town (Viewers: #4, 6.68 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 7) and sure-to-be axed Eastwick (Viewers: #4, 4.60 million; A18-49: #3, 1.6/ 4) from 9-11 p.m.
Worth noting for Modern Family was growth out of The Middle of 1.81 million viewers and 26 percent among adults 18-49.
The CW capped off the evening with aging America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #5, 3.96 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.7/ 5), and a repeat of The Vampire Diaries (Viewers: #5, 1.43 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2), which is an improvement over the recent Melrose Place encores.
I'm very happy ABC has given THE MIDDLE a full season pick up...it's such a wonderful concept that we get to see a REAL family...not picture perfect stepfords like you use to see in comedies.
Here is hoping they can find a better slot for it or at least can HANK and find a good LEAD IN.
Why the big tune out for COUGAR TOWN from MODERN FAMILY? I don't get people that switch to the middle of a one hour drama on another network that's half over.
Tonight is the 8th night of the PIF FEEDBACK FANTASY PROGRAMMING GAME-NOVEMBER SWEEPS...
Nice step up in the demo for The Middle from Hank's lowly score... although 2.0 is still pretty weak.
Excellent for Modern Family on a VERY competitive night. In fact it beat CM in demo's... YEA! The retention for Cougar Town is starting to be a bit troubling, however...
Below average numbers LAw & ORder: SVU ,the Law & Order franchise is putting forth some great episodes this year. SVU this season is one of the best seasons to date. The numbers are dissapointing.
The ratings are low due to the baseball, Looks like ANTM benefitted from the baseball hitting higher ratings than normal, The Vampire Diaries repeat beating Melrose just shows that it's a dud and Heather Locklear can't save it from doom.
How come Mercy is not a loser with it's supremely awful 1.7 demo rating that actually ties with THE CW?! The CW, Marc! Not only is the show the definition of generic, it's ratings are the definition of a loser!

Interesting how Trauma gets better demos than Mercy, but it was canceled, while Mercy is picked up for the whole season.
Modern Family is the only sitcom that makes me laugh out loud other than The Office, although it is not as funny as The Office yet. I'm glad it's doing well. Julie Bowen is a great actress, I never really liked her on Lost but on this show she gets to show her versatility. The only person I find unfunny on the show is the red head brother.
MF is the only bright spot for the ABC sitcom block, although the viewing numbers are far from impressive. The demo saves the way. Can't see CT recovering even without baseball in its way.
It's interesting for me in that Im starting to enjoy the Cougar Town ensemble cast but the thing I like least is the shows premise - her dating.
I'm enjoying Modern Family but can't they make Julie Bowen's husband on the show less of a bumbler. It's hard to realistically believe she married him. Why do all the married guys on sitcoms have to be so lame?
