-Adults 18-49: Fox: 2.0 rating/6 share, CBS and NBC: 1.6/ 5 each, ABC: 1.4/ 5, CW: 0.5/ 2

-Note: The listing of the winners and losers will return in September.
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: It was another bland summer Sunday of shared leadership, with CBS the most-watched network and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49. CBS’ older-skewing 60 Minutes kicked-off the evening first in total viewers, with 8.30 million, and second among adults 18-49, with a 1.4 rating/ 5 share in the demo. Just the opposite was a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC, with 5.50 million viewers (#2) and a 1.6/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#1).
Also in the 7 p.m. hour was the first-half of a two-hour edition of NBC’s Dateline (Viewers: #3, 4.38 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 5), repeats of Fox comedies ‘Til Death (Viewers: #4, 1.88 million; A18-49: #4, 0.7/ 3) and King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 2.46 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 4), and two repeat episodes of the CW’s now defunct Reba (Viewers: #5, avg. 1.83 million; A18-49: #5, avg. 0.7/ 3). Although the critics at the just concluded Summer Press Tour were still unimpressed with ‘Til Death, personally I think it is a good fit out of Back to You on Wednesday this fall. I’m not sure, though, why Fox keeps renewing King of the Hill.
The second half of NBC’s expanded Dateline was the most-watched show in the 8 p.m. hour, with 6.80 million viewers, and third among adults 18-49, with a 1.6/ 5 in the demo. Overall, Dateline averaged 5.59 million viewers and a 1.4/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 7-9 p.m. Also populating the 8-9 p.m. time period was CBS’ Big Brother 8 (Viewers: #2, 6.27 million; A18-49: #1, 2.4/ 8), a repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC (Viewers: #3, 6.11 million; A18-49: #2, 2.0/ 7), repeats of Fox’s The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, 4.71 million; A18-49: #2, 2.2/ 7) and American Dad (Viewers: #4, 4.27 million; A18-49: #3, 2.1/ 7), and a repeat of the CW’s now defunct 7th Heaven (Viewers: #5, 1.11 million; A18-49: #5, 0.4/ 1). Although ratings for Big Brother remain down year-to-year, it is still a valid summer option.
A repeat of NBC’s Law & Order and back-to-back repeats of Fox’s Family Guy shared dominance in the 9 p.m. hour as follows:
Sunday 9-10 p.m.
Law & Order R (NBC) Viewers: 6.76 million (#1), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#2t)
Family Guy R (Fox) – two episodes Viewers: 5.88 million (#3), A18-49: 2.9/ 8 (#1)
Also airing from 9-10 p.m. were repeats of CBS’ Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 6.02 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.6/ 4), ABC’s Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #4, 3.75 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 3), and the CW’s Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll (Viewers: #5, 983,000; A18-49: #5, 0.3/ 1). If you’re a fan of these dolls, keep in mind that season two begins in midseason.
NBC won the 10 p.m. hour, with an encore telecast of Law & Order: SVU at 6.80 million viewers and a 1.9/ 6 among adults 18-49. Second was a repeat of CBS’ relocated Shark (Viewers: 5.10 million; A18-49: #2, 1.3/ 4), which is a compatible fit out of Cold Case, followed by a repeat of the addictive Brothers & Sisters on ABC (Viewers: 3.29 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3). The unfortunate reality of serialized hours like Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters is that they do not play well in repeats.
Marc returns...! It was cool of Travis to keep the board alive while you were out.
I wonder if that is the lowest rating for a repeat of COLD CASE ever? It seems like a surprising low number since proceedural repeat a lot better than that..and it even lost viewers from BIG BROTHER.
My theory is that everyone was over on cable for DISCOVEY channels SHARK WEEK kick off with the INDIANAPOLIS tale made famous from Quint's monologue in JAWS.
Travis is a great back-up. And I can't until the fall when I really have something to talk about.

CBS inches into Second Place in A18-49 for the July Sweep After 25 Days
25 days 2007 July Sweep A18-49 vs 25 days 2006 July Sweep A18-49 (results weighted for extra hour on Sundays)
With FOX almost certain to again win the A18-49 demo crown by a comfortable margin of victory, the real race is on for second place. Last year, after 25 days, CBS and NBC were locked in a complete deadlock, even when measured with 100 basis points. This summer, The Eye has opened up a sliver of a 0.02 lead over NBC, with three nights remaining in the July Sweep.
# 1 FOX 2.23 vs 2.21 (+1%) 17 nightly wins vs. 11nightly wins
#2 CBS 1.74 vs. 1.94 (-10%) 1 win vs. 8 wins
#3 NBC 1.72 vs. 1.94 (-11%) 4 wins vs. 6 wins
#4 ABC 1.40 vs. 1.55 (-10%) 0 wins vs. 5 wins
#5 The CW 0.86 vs. 0.79 WB (+9%) 4 wins vs. 0 wins
#6 MyNetworkTV 0.43 vs. 0.69 UPN (-38%) 0 wins vs. 0 wins
6 Network Totals 8.38 vs. 9.12 (-8%) 26 wins (1 tie) vs. 30 wins (6 ties)
The other notable achievements in the July Sweep is The CW’s 9% growth over last summers WB numbers (and 25% growth over UPN’s numbers last summer). Almost all the credit must go to WWE Smackdown, which has led The CW to four consecutive Friday wins in the A18-49 demographic.
Also of note is that this is MyNetworkTV’s best Sweep performance so far when measured on a year-over-year basis where it is down 38% measured against UPN numbers (former UPN affiliates make up two-thirds of the MyNetworkTV affiliate base). It’s comparable May Sweep A18-49 were down 68%, February Sweep numbers were down 65%, and November Sweep numbers had fallen 73%.

PS - thanks to Justin for the graphics.
I wouldn't be surprised if BIG BROTHER is helping lift CBS since's its a well loved summer staple.
I thought the Simpsons might have seen a small spike in the ratings, seing how well the move did this weekend.
I doubt there'll be any significant spike for next season's ratings--people love these characters, but they've come to take them for granted on the small screen. It took the novelty of a movie (which looks exactly like a somewhat more expensively animated version of the series) to get everybody back.
This is SO not going to work the same way if they ever do that second X-Files movie.

During its run at 8pm and this year at 9pm, COLD CASE had the luxury of not going up against any other crime drama of note, if at all. Now L&O reruns this summer. I also think that during the reg season, CC was posting some low 8 HR's and barely over 3 18-49's. On this latter point, I am surprised CBS did not return it to the safe harbor of the 8pm hour for next season.

On SHARK, its retention out of CC was good but TA numbers fairly low. But I don't think that is cause for alarm. The REAL shark, SVU, won't be in the hour when the new season starts.

The two old ladies next to me on the train this morning summed up television this summer in such a good way: "We need to go see a movie tonite, cause I am withering in front of the television screen, and I personally don't anything to speed up my aging process." LOL

I went out and saw The Simpsons Movie last night and I'd say it's very good, despite the fact they cut some scenes. Everyone (including me) at the theater were laughing non-stop. The movie made $72 million this weekend and received good critical reviews. Go out and see it if you haven't: You won't regret it. I'm seeing it again on August 11.
The best part of the weekend though, was seeing Lindsey Lohan's movie tank with just $3.8 million taken in. Justice is served!
T Dog - completely agree with you. Absolutely uproarious. Not quite the succinct sweetness of classic classic episodes (especially because it was four times as long)... but a throwback, for sure, and better than anything they've put on TV in years. I walked out thinking I could, like the classic episodes, watch it again and again and again. And for a movie... that's a great (and profitable for 20th) feeling.
