The ratings overall weren't great, but I'm not that surprised at the renewal. It did grow through the weeks, so some audience was finding it. However, I think the biggest incentive is that it's a cheap show that could have many corporate and promotional tie ins that makes a show like Shark Tank lucrative, even with lesser ratings. It could easily fill in a few of ABC's gaps, like ABC Fridays or Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 PM.

Why are you surprised? The show is probably dirt cheap, and it built throughout the season. In an article by James Hibberd, he stated in every version across the world, the second season has outrated the first season. By those stats alone ABC should have renewed it.
In addition, the money being invested belongs to the "Sharks". Neither Sony, Burnett Production nor ABC put up any investing money or risk. On the plus side, Sony Pictures, Burnett Productions, and ABC actually receive a share of revenues generated by the businesses in the program. If any of the products hit big it could generate a good revenue stream for the companies involved.
The ratings for program increased each week though it was going against the most viewed program in the country, outside of sports. That, in itself, is rare.
Has ABC renewed its much-loved (but modestly-rated) reality show "Shark Tank"?
According to a network spokesperson, the answer is no-- at least not yet.
The series added nearly 40 percent more viewers from its August premiere to its October finale last month. That's rare for reality shows.
"Tank" is one of ABC's highest-indexing shows among upscale viewers aged 18-49. Only "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" have a higher percentage share of upscale ($125,000-plus) viewers than "Tank."
The upscale index for Shark Tank is very interesting and probably another potential reason for renewal.

What's your point? ABC programmers have made some incredibly stupid blunders over the past few years. Shows with promise have been thrown into bad time slots and given weak lead ins while others that no longer need lead ins (cough Brothers and Sisters cough) are still wasting away their big lead ins. Most recent example of wasting was airing Better off Ted in the summer. If you were really into the show, just save the episodes for fall instead of basically burning them off in the summer.

My point is you always have something negative to say.

Hey, that's MY point! (In that it's constantly being made in reference to me).
mushu, stop stealing my thunder.

My own sense of Better Off Ted airing episodes during this past summer is that ABC is probably changing the direction of the program in its second season and thus wanted to burn off the remaining original episodes.
Hardly. When programs do well, I usually find something good to say. I almost always praise the quality of many programs. Scheduling, however, remains an important part of the process and ABC has never seemed to get that in the sense that CBS has.

Oh OK . . . so you like TNAOOC and GU on Wednesdays and CC Sundays at 10?
