Yes, some of us hadn't heard who got whacked last night. You may want to preface that with a spoiler alert

quote: But I also agree that The Simpsons isn't what it used to be. Groening and company can still produce funny episodes, but the bad eps show up just as often, and they are not fun to watch in syndication. I sort of worry that The Simpsons will suffer the same fate as Roseanne. Roseanne was a pretty good show for the first 4 or 5 years, but the last 4 to 5 years were so terrible as to render repeats from any season unwatchable.
Yeah, but the difference there is that the characters AGED, and you couldn't keep endlessly hitting the reset button--and joking about it while you were doing it. I mean, they did joke about the two Beckys, and stuff like that, but the problem with Roseanne is that it kept trying to transcend itself, and The Simpsons can always get back to basics--it's a one-ep-at-a-time show. There are no arcs. Whatever happens in one episode can be referenced in the next--or erased--or they can reference the fact that it's been erased. I would hate to see it reach the point where the bad eps outnumber the good, but they can avoid that simply by hiring good writers and animators. It's not really a sitcom--Groening is a cartoonist, at the end of the day, and it's basically an animated cartoon strip. Peanuts ran for 50 years. Doonesbury is heading for its 40th year (and those characters actually DO age, albeit unrealistically well). I don't think people will be less likely to watch the eps they do like, no matter how many bad eps are eventually produced. It's not the kind of show that can be ruined. And that's one of its charms. It can be rediscovered, reappreciated, over and over again. But even so, there are limits. They can't do it without the key voice actors, and they've already come close to derailing it with their salary demands. It will end. And when it does, we'll miss it. And so will FOX. It's the only genuinely durable hit they've EVER had.

quote: Any predictions for tomorrow's Gilmore Girls series finale?
Yes, I predict I will once again bitterly lament that the series finale didn't come at the end of the 5th season. As far as ratings are concerned? A bit better than last week. But below the series peak.

you can't have a spoiler if the show already aired. and btw, i don't think there is a sopranos forum quote: Originally posted by tvchtw: ummm no this forum is for last night's ratings/results not storylines. Thats what "the sopranos" forum is for.

Yeah, The Simpsons aren't as good as they used to be. If the movie does well, it might rejigger interest in the series. Ratings for "South Park" didn't go back up after their movie came out, but interest was renewed in the series by getting back to basics - well written episodes like "Passion of the Jew", for example. Ratings went back up, naturally. For a time last year, WFLD/Fox Chicago was running nothing but the same "Simpsons" episodes from seasons 14, 15, and 16 repeatedly three times a day for weeks. Yikes!

Dear Pisher, It would be helpful in the future if you could preface these kinds of notes with a "(sarcasm)" warning so that d can follow along. Thanks! xwiseguyx quote: Originally posted by pisher: quote: You forgot the most important spoiler -
