Could a combination of millions of people on the road heading "Home" for the Holidays, and several high-profile blockbuster films opening in movie theatres, have significantly depressed prime-time TV viewership last night (Decemebr 22nd), and to a lesser extent, the previous night (the 21st)??

I would say so. I know I was at the movies last night during prime time and it was packed.

Yes, but keep in mind how poorly the networks fare on Saurdays to begin with.

What's up with that second half hour of Lemony Snicket? Does something really amazing happen around 8:45 or something? Confused

A real shocker that they were able to get past the Dolphins. With the Giants playing for nothing next weekend, 16-0 seems like a formality at this point.

Probably 2 reasons.
1. It was a bad movie.
2. As I recall, it was basically chopped into several 'separate' stories, so people could tune out after any one of them were done. No need to watch the whole thing.

For the second Saturday in a row, NBC's Saturday Night Live special was the top rated A18-49 choice for the 9:30-11 pm slot.

NBC would be well-served to continue programming these 90-minute specials in the New Year as a complement to the regular 11:30 pm Saturday encores. NBC has about 50 SNL "best of" and various anniversary specials, and could probably commission a few additional new documentaries for airing during the strike (the SNL movie spinoffs, highlight specials from some of the more prolific guest hosts like Mr. Steve Martin).
