-Yesterday’s Winners: American Idol (Fox), Law & Order: SVU R (NBC)
-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats): Just For Laughs (ABC), Beauty and the Geek (CW), According to Jim (ABC), Big Brother 9 (CBS), Jericho (CBS)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: Fox soared past the competition last night, beating the four competing networks combined. A two-hour edition of American Idol, featuring the 12 finalists, averaged a stellar 29.33 million viewers and a 10.8 rating/28 share from 8-10 p.m., building in each half-hour as follows:
My pick to depart tonight is Ramiele Malubay. Also on the weak side is Kristy Lee Cook, while the most overrated in my opinion is Jason Castro. I just don’t get it.
In the battle of the leftovers, NBC ranked a very distant second with its combination of a two-hour edition of The Biggest Loser 5 (Viewers: #2, 7.66 million; A18-49: #2, 3.0/ 8 from 8-10 p.m.) and a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #1, 9.38 million; A18-49: #1, 3.0/ 8).
Next was CBS care of a repeat of NCIS (Viewers: #2, 8.65 million; A18-49: #2, 1.5/ 4), Big Brother 9 (Viewers: #3, 5.92 million; A18-49: #3, 2.1/ 5) and Jericho (Viewers: #3, 5.87 million; A18-49: #3, 1.9/ 5). Considering the dedication of the fans to get Jericho back on the air, you might have thought it would do better. Then again, no one forced CBS to schedule it in the “cursed” Tuesday 10 p.m. hour. As for Big Brother, if anyone saw the episode please email me (mberman@mediaweek.com) and let me know what happened. While I am still addicted to it, American Idol comes first (and I forgot it was on!).
ABC was barely visible, meanwhile, with its combination of two episodes (original and repeat) of Just For Laughs (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.72 million; A18-49: #4, avg. 1.2/ 3), two episodes (original and repeat of According to Jim (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.91 million; A18-49: #4, avg. 1.5/ 4) and Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #2, 7.52 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 8). Worth noting for Primetime: What Would You Do? was the double-digit growth out of According to Jim.
In season-premiere news, the CW’s Beauty and the Geek was barely visible at a mere (and, of course, last place) 1.88 million viewers and a 0.9/ 2 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. One year earlier, a repeat of Gilmore Girls scored 1.98 million viewers and a 0.8/ 2 in the demo in this time period. In other words: it’s not good! Lead-out One Tree Hill was also below average, with 2.46 million viewers and a 1.1/ 3 among adults 18-49. But compared to Beauty and the Geek, that was an increase of 580,000 viewers and 22 percent in the demo.
Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #2, 7.52 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 8). Worth noting for Primetime: What Would You Do? was the double-digit growth out of According to Jim.
I would give Primetime: WWYD an honorable mention Marc.

Rationale: it improved over the worst lead-in on ABC's schedule by 3-4 million viewers, by over a full point in the demo, built on its own prior week numbers by over a million viewers and over half a point in the demo, and beat other original fare by a substantial margin. Its numbers would also put it in the top 5 of ABC shows in both viewers and the demo for the week.
Pretty good numbers for AI, wonder if it will top 30 million again before the finale... Think Kristy is going home and Eze and Ramiele in the bottom 3. David A was a mess last night. He has too much of a following to even get in the bottom 3 for a while.
Pretty basic night across the board. Jericho and BB9 are still way too low. It's funny how CBS is advertising the final 3 for Jericho now. I guess we know that show won't be coming back.
Decent numbers for NBC in the demo. TBL5 still puts up decent numbers against AI.

I agree. Beauty & the Geek has no business being anything other than a filler show between seasons or a summer fun show. Putting it on the regular schedule has really hurt CW.

Because Marc doesn't know Spanish...yet. BTW, if Univision subtitled their shows, they could probably add another 25-50% to their viewership almost immediately.

Agreed.
It's a shame that BatG was once a decent performer for the WB, and in less than two years, the CW has killed it.

Too bad you missed BIG BROTHER Marc... there were so many REVERSALS of FORTUNE during the episode that it was pretty good. Returning to individual play has breathed a lot more fun into the house.
As for JERICHO I think CBS was just angry that they were basicaly blackmailed into putting it back on the air and with so many slots to choose from with the Writers Strike they could have definatly found somewhere better than the death slot. The producers should try and shop it around to cable.

I think this is a good point. Last week many were surprised that asiah epperson was sent home and she happened to be first. i wonder if that means that sayesha is in trouble tonight. Usually, we think that the first and last slot is the best to have because people will remember it more, but since we know the ratings keep going up maybe first is not good to have.
