-Yesterday’s Winners: Dancing With the Stars (ABC), The Big Bang Theory (CBS), How I Met Your Mother (CBS), Two and a Half Men (CBS), CSI: Miami (CBS)
-Declining Rapidly: Heroes (NBC)
-Should Be Better: Samantha Who? (ABC)
-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Chuck (NBC), Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Fox), Prison Break (Fox), Worst Week (CBS), My Own Worst Enemy (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: ABC and CBS shared the top spot on this second Monday in November, with ABC the most-watched network and CBS No. 1 among adults 18-49. Most alarming is NBC, which has lost its competitive edge in the demo as a result of the ongoing collapse of Heroes.
Dancing With the Stars kicked-off as the highest rated show of the evening, with 18.62 million viewers and a 4.1 rating/10 share in the demo from 8-9:30 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 17.73 million (#1), A18-49: 3.8/10 (#2) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 18.84 million (#1), A18-49: 4.3/10 (#1) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 19.29 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/10 (#2)
That led into Samantha Who? (Viewers: #1, 11.03 million; A18-49: #2, 3.0/ 7 at 9:30 p.m.), which should be doing better because of the lead-in support, followed by the soon-to-conclude Boston Legal (Viewers: #2, 8.83 million; A18-49: #2, 2.3/ 6 at 10 p.m.). Retention for Samantha Who? out of the last half-hour of Dancing With the Stars was just 57 percent in total viewers and 68 percent among adults 18-49. As for the show itself, personally I think Christina Applegate is the best actress in sitcoms since Mary Tyler Moore.
CBS’ growing The Big Bang Theory was second in total viewers (10.01 million) and first among adults 18-49 (yes, first!) with a 3.9/10 in the demo at 8 p.m. That led into compatible How I Met Your Mother at 8:30 p.m. at an also solid (and second place) 9.71 million viewers and a 4.1/10 among adults 18-49. Next on CBS was warhorse Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 14.57 million; A18-49: #1, 4.9/11), followed by struggling Worst Week (Viewers: #2, 9.62 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 9) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 13.67 million; A18-49: #1, 3.7/10). Compared to year-ago occupant Rules of Engagement (Viewers: 10.77 million; A18-49: 4.0/ 9 on Nov. 12, 2007), Worst Week was down by 1.15 million viewers and 32 percent in the demo.
Speaking of losses, NBC’s Heroes sunk to a series-low 7.82 million viewers (#3) and a 3.6/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9 p.m. Comparably, that dipped by 2.05 million viewers and 27 percent in the demo from the year-ago telecast (Viewers: 9.87 million; A18-49: 4.9/11 on Nov. 5, 2007). Lead-in Chuck was third at 8 p.m., with an uneventful 6.23 million viewers and a 2.4/ 6 among adults 18-49. And recently introduced My Own Worst Enemy capped off the evening with a mere (and last-place) 4.25 million viewers and a 1.8/ 5 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Compared to year-ago failed occupant Journeyman (Viewers: 5.13 million; A18-49: 2.1/ 5), that was a loss for My Own Worst Enemy of 880,000 viewers and 14 percent in the demo. Poor NBC!
Fox continues to lag on Monday, with its combination of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Viewers: #4, 5.19 million; A18-49: #4, 2.1/ 5) and Prison Break (Viewers: #4, 5.40 million; A18-49: #4, 2.2/ 5). Looking ahead, 24 will return to Fox on Monday, with a two-hour season-premiere on Jan. 12. One week later, House moves into the 8 p.m. hour, followed by 24. Sarah Connor will shift to Fridays at 8 p.m. effective on Feb. 13, and Prison Break will go on a temporary hiatus.
Last, but not least among young females, is CW duo Gossip Girl (Viewers: 3.01 million; A18-49: 1.5/ 4) and One Tree Hill (Viewers: 3.01 million; A18-49: 1.6/ 4).
Heroes has gotten better (although last night's episode didn't really push the season forward much), but as long as the show is on NBC, I don't see how to stop the bleeding. Maybe they need to move it to another night (is Wednesday at 8 available?) or pair it with other shows but it's in a ratings tailspin that has nothing to do with the quality of the show (imo).
EDIT: NBC is lucky Fox is sucking so bad right now on Monday night. That ends when House+24 shows up. They need to move Heroes or there may not be a Season 4.

Great results for BBT, HIMYM, Dancing, and 2.5 Men. Typical performances for SW, Boston Legal, CSI:Miami, Chuck, the Fox duo, and the CW shows. Poor results for Heroes and MOWE. Heroes decline is amazing. Now less than half the demo at its peak and half the total viewers. I don't understand why NBC ever greenlit MOWE. Just a pathetic program. Time to cue up Medium!
SW had an overrun, so the retention is going to look worse in the finals. However, the real test will be in January. The Bachelor will probably pull in 7 to 8 million, mid 2 demos when it debuts. If SW can only manage a 50% to 60% retention, that drops it to roughly 5 million and struggling to pull a 2 in the demo. If that happens, it would be diasterous for ABC.
NBC is dead on Mondays with Chuck/Heroes/MOWE. NBC would be best off with two hour DONDs and then Medium mid-season. DOND isn't going to set any records, but at least it's cheap. I don't know where to stick Heroes. It's become an expensive disaster. 9 PM isn't working. 10 PM will just kill that spot.
FOX is just waiting until House/24 can take over. Those T:SCC and PB numbers are terrible. T:SCC is going to drop when it moves to Fridays and be below the numbers the game shows are pulling in. It already is in the viewers.
CSI Miami is still facing significant year to year declines. This is a candidate for Sundays at 10 PM next year.
I'm amazed at how much Heroes has fallen. Though it was always flawed, it had such promise in the first season. Now I'm not sure it can be saved, though it probably won't get cancelled this season (unless it keeps dropping...).
Fantastic ratings for BBT and HIMYM - and yes, I am a big fan of them, but I generally always enjoy seeing comedies getting good ratings. I just wish there were more of them.
Just wondering, what is a the possibilty is Prison Break getting a fifth and final season, even if it is just a thirteen episode order, if they cannot wrap the show up by the end of this season?

Peace!
Zero. But don't worry, PB is going to have a long break before coming back (March-ish), so tptb will have plenty of time to make sure it has a firm ending.

I am disappointed, but not surprised that Heroes has dropped this week. With all of the negative print out there about the show, it was bound to take a hit. What's so unfair about it is that the show is actually quite good this year.
I've been reading the comments of people on various entertainment sites and it's clear to me that some of these people complaining about the show don't even watch it. They will have facts wrong about the episode that just aired. It's almost like it's in fashion to bash Heroes. American TV viewers are a sad bunch.

Those are great preliminary numbers for BBT and HIMYM. I would love to be able to compliment BBT on series highs, and its first 10 million viewers. However, these two shows were preempted in San Fransisco for NFL Football. Still excellent ratings, but these two will be dropping in the finals. Really too bad these big city affiliates keep screwing these two shows every week.

When you have lots of TV to watch, sometimes 'quite good' just isn't good enough. I did give Heroes a chance this year, but it simply didn't grab my interest. Maybe if I get bored one week I'll catch up on the eps that I haven't seen yet.
