Prime-Time Ratings:
Monday 2/16/09

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 12.58 million, ABC: 10.68, CBS: 9.84, NBC: 7.81, CW: 1.12

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 4.4 rating/10 share, ABC: 4.0/10, CBS and NBC: 2.9/ 7 each, CW: 0.5/ 1

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
House (Fox), The Bachelor (ABC), Two and a Half Men R (CBS)

-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Chuck (NBC), Worst Week (CBS), True Beauty (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox led this third Monday in February with its combination of House (Viewers: #1, 14.00 million; A18-49: #1, 5.1 rating/13 share) and 24 (Viewers: #2, 11.16 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.6/ 8), but 24 is clearly not the force it once was. Retention for 24 out of House was 80 percent in total viewers and 71 percent among adults 18-49.

Second overall in both categories was ABC care of another two-hour edition of The Bachelor (Viewers: #2, 12.50 million; A18-49: #1, 4.5/11 from 8-10 p.m.), which is enjoying its best ratings in five years, and the second-to-last episode of True Beauty, which sunk to 7.04 million viewers (#3) and a 3.0/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#1) at 10 p.m. Despite the first-place finish in the demo, retention of only 58 percent out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in The Bachelor (5.2/12) makes it a “loser.” As for The Bachelor, did you ever think I would label this nonsense a “winner?”

Excluding the series-final of Worst Week, CBS was in all repeats last night as follows:

CBS/Monday
8:00 p.m. – The Big Bang Theory
Viewers: 8.75 million (#3), A18-49: 3.0/ 8 (#3)

8:30 p.m. – How I Met Your Mother (R)
Viewers: 7.30 million (#3), A18-49: 2.6/ 6 (#3)

9:00 p.m. – Two and a Half Men (R)
Viewers: 13.34 million (#1), A18-49: 4.0/ 9 (#2)

9:30 p.m. – Worst Week (series finale)
Viewers: 8.70 million (#3), A18-49: 2.6/ 6 (#4)

10:00 p.m. – CSI: Miami (R)
Viewers: 10.48 million (#1), A18-49: 2.6/ 7 (#3)

Needless to say, the standout was Two and a Half Men, which always delivers, even in non-originals.

NBC remained out of the competitive Monday loop with its line-up of Chuck (Viewers: #4, 6.75 million; A18-49: #4, 2.2/ 5), Heroes (Viewers: #4, 7.74 million; A18-49: #2tm 3.6/ 8) and Medium (Viewers: #2, 8.93 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 7). And the CW capped off the evening with repeats of Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 1.19 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 1) and One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 1.06 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 1). Although growth for Heroes out of Chuck was 990,000 viewers and 64 percent in the demo, let’s be honest: this is not the same show it used to be both in quality and quantity.

Wow, Chuck's ratings actually don't look that bad compared to Dollhouse--though of course this isn't Friday night.

Even so, they have got to cut Chuck loose. It had a more than fair chance to find a big enough audience, and they sure as hell promoted it. It will never catch on.

What other show on TV today can hit a 4 demo in reruns?

I know, its amazing isn't it. I also think BBT deserves an honorable mention for doing that well for a repeat. And even though a 2.8 isn't great Medium deserves some accolades for building by more than a million viewers on Heroes.

None. Not even CSI. It typically pulls in the 3's for repeats if its lucky. Most weeks last summer barely had a 2.

Kudos to the Bachelor and ABC as well as Fox for their lineup.

Poor Chuck. Sad to see it drop but at least its doing about what it did this fall. I think it still has a chance. Medium's demos are nothing to brag about. That show was much stronger last year, even after stuff returned from the strike.

The story of CHUCK over the year and a half essentially is that it lost the battle with TBBT.

mushu, MEDIUM typically did 9-9.5mm last year and just a bit over 3.0 under various conditions last year.

That performance was a pickup from the previous year when it was in an even tougher hour, so there was a perception the show was having a very positive year.

Unspectacular as they are, I'm guessing Fox is ok with 24's numbers. I think there were fears the show would go through the floor after the badly received season 6 and the lengthy time off.

I believe the audience mix is a good bit older than in prior years, though.

Yeah it's interesting, it looks the older persons stuck with 24. I guess torture still works for them

Chuch i'm sorru but with the SB promotion getting 2.2 in demos might've sealed its faith. Heroes does worse even with CBS in repeats

Great episode of Chuck last night, unfortunate demo numbers. Would have been interesting to see if any audience would have held over from the (crappy) 3D stunt, but oh well.

Very strange that both House and Chuck took big dives from recent results despite CBS being in repeats. Chuck is probably not going to be able to survive at this number, but it doesn't have to get much higher to get back in contention, even with NBC cutting five hours.

True Beauty clearly has absolutely no legs on its own, but continues to be an OK fit with the stunningly high-rated Bachelor.

Marc, would it be possible to post half-hour breakdowns for The Bachelor? Those viewer and demo numbers are astounding. Higher demo than DWTS, now? Whodathunkit?

To me, the amazing thing is that even with the outstanding numbers that Two and a Half Men and (to a lesser extent) the rest of the CBS comedies do in reruns, the other networks seem reluctant to schedule three-camera comedies.

Still think if you cut Chuck "loose" you do it to the USA Network. Would pair well with Monk, Psych, Burn Notice or In Plain Sight. Would most likely put up the same #s on USA as it does on NBC.
