Hey there! As far as the 7:30-8 portion who gets credit for those ratings? I'm not sure if thats the right wording... Are those ratings only local? Reason I ask is most of the commercials i fast forwarded over were local type commercials(car dealers, Government telling me not to use water, etc)

It would depend more on the license fees than on actual production costs, and those are pretty tricky to find (and even more tricky because NA was produced by a company within News Corp, Regency Television). Pilots aside, and knowing the studios... I would peg NA at a couple hundred thousand per episode more than SCC. At least for production budget.

It may have been that Fox gave all of the 7:30pm-8pm commercial time to the affiliates, in which case it wouldn't be rated in the nationals (which it wasn't, so far as I can tell).

That is kind of my point what WE percieve may not be reality.
I would peg NA at a couple hundred thousand per episode more than SCC.
That seems surprising... but when I think about it, T:tSCC is filmed in California, while NA is filmed in NYC. I've always heard it's more expensive to film in NYC. Not sure if that's true, though.
Further back in the thread, someone commented on CBS's pilots:
quote:
Biggest head scratcher has to be Eleventh Hour. The synopsis is saving people from scientific abuses? What?
Yeah, and it's based on a British series of four TV-movies which starred Patrick Stewart. I watched the first one. It was very unpleasant and dreary. And it made me feel sick, too. The concept didn't work. The characters weren't compelling. Even Patrick Stewart couldn't do anything with that script. So, CBS is NOT thinking here.

How much does Terminator cost FOX and how much does New Amsterdam Cost FOX??????
Are these two shows really 'on the same level'?
New Amsterdam last 4 episodes
03/17/08 7.27 M 2.3
03/24/08 6.19 M 2.0
03/31/08 6.60 M 2.1
04/07/08 7.44 M 2.2
Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicals last 4 episodes
02/18/08 8.10 M 3.2
02/25/08 7.12 M 2.7
03/03/08(S-8p) 7.75 M 3.0
03/03/08(9pm) 8.29 M 3.3
We are talking almost a full point difference in the demo. I'm not sure we can just write that all off to competition, Daylight Savings Time, etc...

You're right beacause both shows were treated very well by FOX . NA got 2 post AI slots. CL didn't get a single one.
The problem with comparing season averages for those two shows is that both seasons were very short, and while NA got AI as a lead-in twice, SCC was promoted far more heavily--it got a football game with far higher ratings than AI normally gets as a lead-in once, and it was given a huge boost on the most-watched Superbowl broadcast ever. NA really kind of got snuck in there--hell, a lot of people who have criticized it here, have said "Well, FOX just dumped it, because they know it sucks."
No question, SCC was the fair-haired boy, and NA has been more like the redheaded stepchild.
But the end results--where both shows were by the time their seasons finished up--about the same, particularly considering NA's much weaker lead-ins by the end.
No question, SCC has cost FOX a lot more money than NA--and that may weigh in SCC's favor--FOX has invested so much that show, there are a lot of people there who just won't want to admit it's failed.
But if they bring it back, it will prove, beyond all doubt, that a failure it is.
At which point, people here will start whining about how FOX never supported it.
I honestly don't care which crappy derivative dramas FOX supports. None of them support ME.
pisher was not wrong; it is all because of the strike. Or the weather.
Or FOX being stupid, which I've said many times.
For the record, Z--are you now predicting a long run for SCC? Will you go on record as saying it's a sure thing for a third season?
Saying a show DESERVES to be canceled, is not the same thing as saying it WILL be canceled.
I note in passing--not a full season pick-up? 13 episodes? I thought it was a huge success?
Honestly, that's more vindication than I'd hoped for.
But less than a year from now, I expect much more. You might want to be elsewhere when that happens, Z. I have a long memory. Yours will probably develop a few gaps around then.
