Idol is nowhere near being canceled, but it does seem to have peaked, and started its long inevitable decline.
All shows reach this point--why would Idol be any different?
The Ed Sullivan show was vastly more popular and longlived than Idol could ever dream of being--it still reached the point where its ratings began to decline. If it happened for Ed Sullivan, it'll happen for Simon Cowell. All the sooner because Sullivan featured the greatest singers of that era, and Cowell--doesn't.

ABC's continued weak performance in the 10pm hour (Bachelor, DSM, Eli Stone, MiT, OR, Cashmere Mafia, Primetime, etc.) only solidify the need to keep Boston Legal's 10 million viewers around. Even B&S performed below 10 million without DH. I'll concede demo weakness, but why cancel a show that has a consistent viewership (and apparently high DVR numbers and high income viewers). All things considered, I find it difficult to believe it's even on the bubble.
Idol's numbers down last night, but understandable. I never miss, but last night really saw no need to watch. Its 24 million on Tuesday are much more concerning. I don't think any performance shows dipped that low last season. Seems week to week it's declining some. This year's talent, while heavily hyped, doesn't measure up to last year for me. Maybe that's starting to become a problem with other viewers as well.
Looking forward to Survivor tonight. One of the best seasons in a long time. Tough competition in the 8:00 hour tonight!
The power house Idol is finally losing steam.
They'll pick up, but i think they'll be down. The thursday eps are always lower than the wednesday ones. (Besides 30 rock is back. Duh.)

Well i was right.
You are a prophet of the one and done, Walter. Please, do tell me what your crystal ball foretells for the new sitcom starring Mr. Flavor Flav, "Under One Roof", that debuts next Wednesday at 8 pm EST / 7 pm Central on MyNetworkTV?

Cowell is not AI, and that is one of the reasons this show has an expiration date. He actually wants to start his own show (X-Factor from UK) in the US at one point, and he can't do that while he is under contract with AI producers.

dumont, every post of yours regarding the show has been identical to every post you made about Hotel Paradise before it aired. I predict a similar outcome once UOR airs.

It'd expire whether he left or not, but that will probably hurry things up. Still, the damage has been done.
The hell of it is, a genuine revival of the variety show would have been a great thing for television. Instead we got a celebration of mediocrity--people aspiring, in the most fatuous way imaginable, to be celebrities--instead of artists.
And I hope you're okay with my thinking that, even though I've watched about three minutes of AI in my life.

Come next Thursday morning, when the overnights show "Under One Roof" sitting atop "America's Sixth Place Models", I'll be joining Mr. Flavor Flav in a told-ya-so grin.
Is ANTM new? Would that be a record rating for MyTv?

Wow. Is FF that popular? Do people know about this show. I saw the first billboard the other day. Those are pretty lofty expectations. I think it will do good for MyTv, not sure it will beat Tyra. We'll see.

It would be about double their record.

Yes whatsonpop, I've updated the Nielsen predictive model in my dumont electronitrendicator, and it does indeed forecast that MNT will set a ratings record high next Wednesday night.
Are you by chance privy to overnight metered market results? If so, could you make a diary notation to please post the overnights for "Under One Roof" vs. "America's Next Top Model" next Thursday morning?
I'm too far down the food chain to get overnights on a regular basis. I will see what i can do though. My only concern is that if you want the show to suceed, perhaps you shouldn't say so because we have all seen your track record! LOL
