How is Moonlight's Friday at 9 slot the hardest timeslot of the week? Let's look at its competition this week, a movie repeat on FOX, Dateline NBC, Duel on ABC which is heading towards cancellation and Wrestling on CW. Due to this weak competition, it makes Moonlight's drop even more alarming. It faces virtually no competition and it still can't keep the audience. Next season, it won't even be tops in its timeslot as NBC is programming Deal or No Deal Fridays at 9. quote: Originally posted by total eclipse: quote: Originally posted by WlcmBlueBloodWorstEnemy: Next season, CBS has to try a new show Friday at 9. They are just wasting the advantage they have with Moonlight. It is continually pulling down the schedule and forcing Numbers to pick it up again.
Friday at 9 is probably the toughest time slot of the week. It has been proven that even GW's repeat at 9 got a much smaller number than when it is repeated at 8. Moonlight is a great show, and it's refreshing to see CBS take a chance, for one, with a genre show. I'm pretty sure CBS will pick it up for another season at the same time. It is a huge success story.

Huge success? Close to Home had better numbers and was cancelled. I expect Moonlight to be too.
You're probably oblivious to the fact Moonlight has a huge fan following, that the cast now appears in various conventions and events all over the place, and between all the buzz and the marketability of the show overseas as well (and it is selling well all over the world), CBS will keep it on the sked. Hey, those suits can smell profits, and I can just see millions of fans worldwide buying Moonlight merchandise. This show ain't going anywhere.
Huge fan following? I never hear anyone talk about this show. Where is it selling well? I'd like to know where you heard this.
Me too... this show is marginal at best. As a matter of fact, it will probably wind up being one of the lowest rated originals 18-49 on CBS all week.

Have you been hiding under a rock for months now? Or you're simply unaware as to the epidemic fan websites appearing all over the net in many languages. This show is being watched worldwide. I know about this fan following because I'm part of it. The cast has appeared in a special Paley centre event, in NYC Comic con, this weekend in LA Fangoria, next month in the first ever fan-run convention and this summer in a few events, including right here in Toronto. Only this week Alex O'loughlin gave several interviews to many local CBS affiliates, appeared on the morning show, and check out tvguide and E!online to see how much promotion they have given to the show, and that is just this week! I suggest you google the show. You'll find numerous fan websites and message boards. You'll find people creating their own merchandise for the show and selling it (and I know they do, because I bought it).

Moonlight did its usual thing on Friday's which is not much. It always loses about a million viewers from GW, it loses demo, and the only reason it finishes in 1st in the time period is because of absolutely no competition from the other networks.
Personally, I would cancel it. It brings down the night. For the 9:00 show to always finish behind the 8:00 show is simply not good enough.
However, with its rabid fan base I am sure CBS will bow to the pressure, and renew it. If the other networks ever decide to put any kind of programming against, whatsoever, this show will sink like a rock and be gone in a hurry.

Just because a website is in different language doesnt mean people are watching it.

You are completely missing the point. No one cares how many Moonlight trinkets someone is peddling on online auctions. The only thing advertiers care about is the ratings and they can clearly see that Moonlight is a drain on the schedule and causing CBS to get less viewers than they could putting any other show on their lineup there. Shark and The Unit could do better than Moonlight in the same spot. quote: Originally posted by total eclipse: quote: Originally posted by yankeesrj12: quote: Originally posted by total eclipse: quote: Originally posted by yankeesrj12: quote: Originally posted by total eclipse: quote: Originally posted by WlcmBlueBloodWorstEnemy: Next season, CBS has to try a new show Friday at 9. You not get online too often since Moonlight has been generating buzz since its premiere and the new series beside SCC of FOX getting the most attention from both fans, critics, and Nina who openly supports Moonlight and why I think it has a better than decent chance of getting a renewal of at least 13 episodes . Of course I could be wrong but since CBS screwed me out of The Unit I'd like to see Moonlight survive at least ..

1. What drop? The last new ep scored a little over 8 mil. Considering how much other shows (DH, GA) have dropped lately, this is nothing. Excellent retention. 2. Friday nights are the toughest because less people tend to watch TV on Fridays, hence the low numbers across the board. And I mentioned the specific drop at 9 vs 8 earlier in this thread.

You got it perfectly. I say it every week, how in the world can this show be considered a success when it loses from its 8:00 lead in, and yet it faces the least competition of any show all week. I maintain, if the other networks ever decide to program against it the show will be done.

But when nothing else is being programmed, it should have much higher ratings. Numb3rs could of done better if not for Moonlight.

The only difficult part about the Friday night timeslot is getting anyone to watch network TV on Friday night. quote: Next season, it won't even be tops in its timeslot as NBC is programming Deal or No Deal Fridays at 9.
I think that is just 'bait and switch' on the part of NBC. DoND is too valuable to them to waste on Friday night. They will end up moving it to fill some more valuable nightly hole created by one of the many weak spots in their schedule (my best guess is that they will move it to Thursday 9pm as counter pogramming and move The Office up to 8:30pm). And now for the PIF Challenge of the week. Google any current TV show and try to find one that doesn't have some sort of fan website or message board.

You keep missing the point. It faces zero competition, let another network or two put anything on opposite ML, and let's see what it gets.

Just to remind you that before the hiatus other networks did have original scripted programming against Moonlight (FNL, WMC), and yet the show help its own nicely and even grew. And there is no point into comaring Moonlight to its lead-in. GW is targeting a different audience. It is "family friendly", it has the warm and fuzzy factor in the end, it's catered for middle America. Middle America don't watch vampire shows because they are perceived as "violent" and "dark". And yet, Moonlight maintains VERY good numbers (esp when you think about other vampire shows in the past 15 years) and appeals to a much broader audience than one can expect.
