Sorry to butt in here, but I wanted to make an observation. I don't usually watch Friday night shows (mainly because I work, but also because there is very little that appeals to me), but there is a very valid point being made here that the level of internet and DVR penetration has significantly impacted almost all of the networks programming. Combine that with the usual spring drop in ratings, and the fallout from the strike, and yes, most of the ratings are down significantly from last year. With a couple of slight exceptions, of course. I believe The Office is up slightly from last year, but another show that has shown significant growth from last year is Medium. Even in a killer time slot, it has rebounded from a season ranking of #65 last season to somewhere around #40 (or maybe even high 30s) this season. Also it's weekly average in HH has increased from around 8M last season to 9.4M this season. It's demo rating has grown from an average 2.9 to 3.2. And granted, that is largely due to NBCs decision to hold it until mid-season, but still, it's performance this season has been pretty impressive compared to last season. So although a few shows have shown improvement this season, the vast majority of them have seen a decrease in viewers. Sadly, I think this is a trend that we are not likely to see end anytime soon, unless the internet blows up and DVRs are outlawed. With the exception of an occasional breakout hit like American Idol, Grey's Anatomy, or Desperate Housewives, I think the days of seeing a show that can consistently pull in over 20M viewers are all but gone.

I'm not sure anyone has a clue what you're talking about. People here are here to talk about ratings. Its why we're here. Not that a little show discussion isn't positive here or there, but when we make comments about programs, its mostly about their ratings. I personally thought Moonlight was terrible but I hated Buffy and Angel too so I never thought it would. If the show was holding its GW-lead in in both viewers and demo it would be one thing. I'd say its fine and will return, but its not. Its dropping them and usually against lesser competition. I'm glad you enjoy the show but you need to realize that not everyone does and when a show performs badly, people have the right to analyze and be critical.
If all people here talk about is rating, then how come some make derogatory remarks about the Moonlight fandom? just scroll up the thread. It's all over the place.
From what I read, someone said a link was posted, you said no it wasn't, and then he or she proved you wrong and you freaked out and said people called you a bad name or something.

I actually do think its hurt Numb3rs a bit and perhaps even Ghost Whisperer because the total viewership in the key timeslot of the whole night is now down by 3 million viewers, dragging down Numb3rs. Ghost Whisperer probably also benefited from Close to Home fans last year but no serious damage has been done. Still, the show shouldn't be airing there in the fall. Keep it for midseason if something new completely bottoms out.
Ok now you have freakin lost me. How the hell can Moonlight hurt GW ratings. It is on before Moonlight. That makes no sense at all. Hey we all know you hate Moonlight but that statement about GW ratings hurts Moonlight is just insane logic

No, YOU're busted. Just like I said, link was given as credit for the numbers, not to egg people on to come here. If another member did so after a link was posted, that's their business. But it's obvious links are given out of fairness and a sense of ethics you obviously don't understand. You should get a grip yourself.
What does it matter if new members come here? We accept anyone here as long as they treat others with some respect. Who cares if the shows fans found out from other sites? I'm sure Marc loves the free promotion!
That's what I say. But certain other members here decided to make these derogatory remarks as if Moonlight fans have no place here.

Mediumfan, isn't Medium up year to year? And isn't Law and Order? And isn't How I Met Your Mother? And isn't 2.5 Men? Lots of shows are still kicking just fine.

You haven't read the thread. Read further back. Someone said something derogatory about Moonlight fans coming here. Then someone who has no idea who they're talking about said a link was posted. To which I said no one asked anyone to come here by posting a link. A link to here is posted every week to give Marc credit for the numbers, that's all, not to "teach those naysayers a lesson" or anything like that.

1. This night is a joke overall but the biggest joke is ABC, which should just pull Duel for 2 hour 20/20. Perhaps encores of WMC can air at 8 in the coming weeks. 2. The CW will be in the cellar next year once Smackdown leaves. 3. CBS had a terrible night considering how the competition was downright pathetic. Moonlight doesn't deserve a renewal anymore. CBS can launch 3 new dramas easily and expand comedies by an hour and use Amazing Race in the fall. To fall in the higher HUT levels at 9 against downright pathetic competition is unacceptable. Try for a midseason 13 because that's all the more this show deserves, especially after the oodles of promotion I saw the whole week for it on CBS shows. 4. NBC's chimps are starting to get dumber than ABC's with their over dependence on the likes of Most Outrageous Moments. Why couldn't Las Vegas return for a final 6 eps this spring to take some pressure off the repeats? So dumb...

I agree the more the merrier, but I was just commenting back to this poster who called me a liar basically when I said this thread was posted on two major Moonlight fanboards. Total Eclipse said she is a member of a lot boards and I wasn't telling the truth. Sorry, but I don't like people impying I lie. Especially someone who is now trying to change the argument and say she didn't say that. You've read this thread and clearly she came at me insinuting I was making up something. Anyway, this is all so high school. I'd rather discuss the reality of the ratings, and not argue with a die hard fan who is using emotion not logic.

Well at least that makes it the longest Friday thread in a while. But it doesn't make ML performance any better. Why not move Numbers to 9pm and ML to 10pm if the latter is renewed?
Yes, I assume people kind of got the hint this thread was linked on a ML fansite considering the "Friday Night Ratings" thread turned into a Moonlight duscussion. I just wanted to be honest about it, and I'm a casual fan of Moonlight. Do you think moving the show to 10PM would be a good move? I think CBS will renew, but not for an entire season....13 episodes like someone else mentioned. The network will see where it goes from there. Is it really that bad if ML loses some rating in between GW and Numbers as long as it still wins it's time slot and demo for 9PM, and CBS still wins the night with ML in it's lineup?
The problem is next fall it won't. DOND will whip this easily and if WMC returns to Fridays with any sort of a lead in at all, it will beat it in total viewers like before and be fairly close in the demo.
What is DOND? Yea, I think ML is fated to be canceled eventually, but until the other Networks give it competition, it will survive. Do you think a pick up of 13 episodes for Moonlight is possible now?
What is DOND? Haha Ya she new.

Really? Many of GW's fans were once and some are still C2H fans. When it was canceled many left with it, hoping that any show that replaced it would fail miserably and many if not all went to ABC's WMC. So there is the explanation for why Moonlight has been dragging down GW, by simply being its replacement when it should not have been axed yet.

Unfortunately, you're right. I like the show, but if it's not performing it should be replaced. Maybe some cable channel like Lifetime will pick it up, since the show is mostly viewed by females over 30. Thanks for the enlightening discussion. I'm not really into the network ratings game, so I've learned some things on this thread.
Umm, Sweatie u have no right getting into it here. u have like 9 comments.

That's because you weren't telling the truth. Once again, a link to Marc's results is posted EVERY SINGLE WEEK on all the boards to give him credit (you know, honesty, which is a virtue. look it up). No one comes here as a result of that link to scold anyone who doesn't like the show. This conspiracy theory is in your head and only there. You were right in only one thing though. It is "highschool". So I'll let you ramble on while I turn to more significant things. Have a nice day.

I think the strike is the main culprit for ratings being down this year. People have been predicting the doom of the networks ever since cable, satellite and the internet...that was years ago, and the networks are still around and still killing most every cable show in the ratings and in the arena of making money.
