Prime Time Ratings:
Friday 4/13/07

The following results are based on the fast national ratings (Live Plus Same Day data):

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 8.13 million, NBC: 6.61, ABC: 5.29, CW: 4.19, Fox: 4.02

-Adults 18-49:
CBS: 2.0 rating/ 7 share, ABC and NBC: 1.7/ 6 each, Fox: 1.5/ 5, CW: 1.4/ 5

---------------

-Friday’s Winners:
Nothing

-Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Identity (NBC), Movie: White Chicks (Fox), Raines (NBC)

---------------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Repeats of dramas Ghost Whisperer, Shark and Numb3rs were still enough for CBS to dominate Friday, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. NBC finished second (tied with ABC in adults 18-49), while Fox and The CW shared the No. four and five spots, respectively.

The Ghost Whisperer encore led the 8 p.m. hour, with 7.90 million viewers and a 2.0 rating/8 share among adults 18-49. Second was NBC game show Identity (Viewers: 6.59 million; A18-49: 1.9/ 7), which is a pale replacement for former occupant 1 vs. 100, followed by a repeat of the Grey’s Anatomy clips show on ABC at 4.37 million viewers and a 1.4/ 5 in the demo. Fox aired theatrical White Chicks, which averaged a mere 4.02 million viewers (#5) and a 1.5/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. And The CW’s perennial Friday Night Smackdown! was below-average, with 4.19 million viewers (#4) and a 1.4/ 5 in the demo (#5), also from 8-10 p.m.

In what could be a test to see if Shark would fit out of Ghost Whisperer (and into Numb3rs) next season, the James Woods drama encore finished first in total viewers (8.12 million) and tied with a repeat of ABC’s Wife Swap for No. 1 among adults 18-49 (1.8/ 6) at 9 p.m. Comparably, this is similar to second-run episodes of regularly scheduled occupant Close to Home. Wife Swap, meanwhile, was third in total viewers with 4.87 million. Also in the hour was NBC’s doomed Raines, with just 6.43 million viewers (#3) and a 1.5/ 5 (#4t) among adults 18-49. Considering the competition included repeats of Wife Swap and Shark, Raines star Jeff Goldblum would be wise to start packing.

First at 10 p.m. was the Numb3rs encore on CBS, with 8.36 million viewers and a 2.1/ 7 among adults 18-49. Rounding off the hour were ABC’s veteran 20/20 (Viewers: #3, 6.62 million; A18-49: #2, 2.0/ 6) and a repeat of Law & Order on NBC (Viewers: #2, 6.79 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 6).

Marc, do you have the half hour numbers for Ghost Whisperer from 8-9 and Shark 9-10?

NBC pretty much put Raines in a position to die. Bummer. I think it could have worked in the right timeslot.

What has happened to NBC? They are simply pitiful on every night of the week except for Monday night when they have DOND and Heroes. And even DOND has been seriously hurt since Dancing With the Stars started airing there. What are they going to do? I know you love to take jabs at them Marc, but if you were put in charge of the network today, what would you do for the fall lineup?

Well, I used to work there in research and I have said for years that their comeback will take a very long time. The comedy strategy makes sense on Thursday, but the network needs a mass appeal hit and these shows do not fit that description. So, get rid of Scrubs already.

Also:

1. Trim the episode orders of Law & Order and Criminal Intent next season to 13 episodes each and let them share a time period.

2. Bring back 1 vs. 100, cancel Identity and create a game show night on Saturday.

3. Move Medium back to Monday at 10 p.m.

4. Do not over-expose Deal or No Deal.

5. Consider spinning off a character from Heroes.

6. Cancel Crossing Jordan, Studio 60 and The Black Donnellys.

7. Announce that next season will be the last for ER.

And, be very patient!

Let's let Marc have a life on weekends, folks.

Half hour breakdowns? Come on.

This is the only place on the net with fast nationals as complete as Marc posts them.

How about a little consideration?

Give him a break. He can't be here fulfilling our specific requests 24/7.

I agree. They shoud have left it on Thursday night for all of ER's absence. Instead, they ship it off to Friday and stick it after a dead gameshow? Moves like this can lead one to believe that Networks actively want some shows to fail.

I really like the idea of the time share for the Law & Orders. I also think it would benefit the franchise to not bunch them back to back on Tuesdays again.

Medium back on Monday makes too much sense for NBC not to do. I'm not sure why they never did that this year. I suspect they'll probably just launch a new show there next year though. Seems like a wasted opportunity to not even try it during May sweeps.

Calm down there Fred Flintstone. No one is putting a gun to Marc's head forcing him to post the half hour ratings. It was just a simple request. If Marc is not available to answer or does not have time he will not answer.

Thanks, Allen. I'm doing the show again on Monday on the May sweeps. Wish they would use more sound-bites, though. But, hey, it's still TV and I like that show.
