Unlike other members of this board who say that The Good Wife will be one and done after this season, I completely disagree. No way will CBS cancel a series that pulls in 13 million an episode, just because of a lower demo. The wisest thing would be to renew it for a second season and put it on either Fridays or Sundays, which is exactly what I think they'll do.

If they put TGW on Fridays, it would probably go to 8 or 10pm, though. I'd prefer it to go to 8pm - it would be great competition for Law & Order (that's saying if NBC keeps L&O in the same timeslot next season, which they probably would per a renewal), and Ghost Whisperer/Medium would benefit airing an hour later and staying together.

Meanwhile, I really don't understand the jumping around with the CBS shows, Medium in particular, lately. The Halloween episode and the episode after for Medium were probably the best of the season, yet they were the lowest rated. Meanwhile, last night's episode jumped back up to 8.16 million, and I found it to be rather boring. Why do some viewers only seem to watch the rather average episodes? lol.

"Flashpoint" was originally produced for Canada, but CBS joined up as a co-producer and agreed to air episodes during the 2007-08 Writers Guild of America strike. However, CBS is a co-producer, and as the American home of "Flashpoint" does get a say in how many episodes are produced.

There were 13 episodes filmed for the first season (although CBS only aired 9 of them, holding the remaining 4 for the "second season"). A second season of 13 episodes was ordered by both CBS and Canadian broadcaster CTV. That order was later increased to 18 second season episodes.

CBS aired 13 "second season" episodes (including the four left over from the first season), so there are nine episodes from the official second season left to air, and CBS ordered an additional 13 episodes in early October. That means that CBS will actually have 22 episodes - a full seasons worth - to air as the "third season".

I know it is confusing, and hopefully this can clear things up.

Then CTV started airing third season episodes in September before CBS ordered them.

CBS makes a huge mistake by canceling Numb3rs

I agree Robert (and WlcmZapataTexas, also). I've been a long time Numb3rs fan and I know it is aging, but looking at its numbers compared to all of CBS's lineup on Friday, plus it's late timeslot, plus it beats most almost every other show that night...I think it would be a BIG mistake to cancel this show. It still has legs left and even if it pulls numbers 10-15% lower next year, I'm willing to bet it will still be a time slot winner. I think networks need to accept an average win when they can get one and shouldn't expect to hit a home run on every single show/time slot.

I know many weren't fond of it here, but if CBS axes Numb3rs I think they will have another issue on Friday like they do on Sunday from canceling "The Unit." "The Unit" wasn't Emmy material, but it had a loyal following and pulled arguably the most consistent numbers of any show on TV last season. CBS could sure use that TAR, Cold Case, The Unit schedule right now.

No, they didn't.

Both CTV and CBS broadcast episodes from the first and second seasons in sync with one another. Nine episodes from July to September 2008 and 13 episodes from January to May 2009.

Those "third season" episodes which began airing on CTV in September were nine episodes left over from the second season. The second season was 18 episodes, but only 13 were aired, and four of those were left over from the first season. So, only nine episodes from the official second season aired thru May 2009.

That is why, "Flashpoint" could have a 22 episode third season (13 actual third season episodes, plus nine left over from season two), but CBS is not likely to air all 22 episodes (unless it opts to continue airing new episodes into the summer) during the third season cycle.

I thought Numb3rs was beat by 20/20 this week in the demo? In the past it always grew out of the 9pm show in the demo. Its no longer doing that and its probably more expensive to make than Flashpoint so that's why its a goner. Flashpoint can probably pull a 1.7 demo and still make money for CBS.

Unlike other members of this board who say that The Good Wife will be one and done after this season, I completely disagree. No way will CBS cancel a series that pulls in 13 million an episode, just because of a lower demo.

Tell that to fans of Without a Trace and Judging Amy.

Without a Trace was in its 7th season and had a lower audience than The Good Wife last season, with a lower demo. Judging Amy was just about ancient-skewing by its final season. Both were becoming expensive to produce by the end of their runs.

The Good Wife has tons of potential, and although Julliana Marguiles comes with a pricetag, it can't be overly expensive. I just can't see them cancelling a show that pulls in 13 million viewers. Fridays or Sundays would be its best option for next season.

I'm kind of torn on The Good Wife right now. It deserves to be sweating it out at this point, but ultimately I'm leaning toward them giving it another whirl on Friday like they did with Close to Home. And I think eko's GW/TGW/Medium is one of the best Friday combinations of shows that I've heard (though I'd keep GW/Medium together, since there's probably at least some synergy there, and put TGW at 10).

I think the day they drop GW/Medium and go cheap-fest on this night is the day they shed about a half point in the demo, as Bruce alluded to earlier. Maybe that works for them economically, but I have no real way of knowing that, so I say stick with higher ratings. Flashpoint's gotten a lot of credit because of good-looking total viewer numbers, but in the demo, it's basically been a cheaper version of Moonlight.

I don't know what kind of track record that Hilton has in regards to network news, but I wouldn't be surprised to see "The Beautiful Life" return at some point in the future.

"TBL" was produced by CW's corporate parents Warner Bros. and CBS and there are still four episodes produced but not aired (according to The Futon Critic), so a burn-off does make sense.

I actually like a schedule of TGW/GW/Medium. They could easily develop more stories for the Florick kids and give the show more of a family vibe to air at the earlier hour. Also, with TGW being a new show, CBS could get more mileage out of it and use it as an anchor once GW and Medium are no longer around.
