Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 27 percent at this same point last year to approximately 33 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
----------
-Friday’s Winners: Nothing. Friday is eerily reminiscent of what happened to Saturday.
-Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Supernanny (ABC), Ugly Betty (ABC), The Jay Leno Show (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS led this typically lackluster Friday, finishing first in total viewers and adults 18-49 with its line-up of Ghost Whisperer (Viewers: #1, 8.01 million; A18-49: #1, 2.0 rating/7 share), compatible Medium (Viewers: #1, 8.16 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 6) and expected-to-be concluding Numb3rs (Viewers: #1, 8.16 million; A18-49: #2, 1.8/ 6), which had its full season episode order slashed from 22 to 16 last week. Both Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs remain down year-to-year.
NBC’s relocated Law & Order has settled in fairly well at 8 p.m., with a competitive second-place finish in both total viewers (7.50 million) and adults 18-49 (#2, 1.7/ 6). Next on NBC was Dateline (Viewers: #2, 7.32 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 5 at 9 p.m.), which featured a murder mystery that may have already been featured on CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery, followed by ongoing loser The Jay Leno Show, with a third-place finish in both total viewers (4.69 million) and adults 18-49 (1.2/ 4) at 10 p.m. NBC, needless to say, would have been better off leaving Jay Leno in late night.
ABC finished third overall in total viewers and tied with NBC for second among adults 18-49 with its combination of Supernanny (Viewers: #3, 5.03 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 5), which is not so super anymore, relocated Ugly Betty (Viewers: #3, 4.45 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 4), which is likely in its last season, and veteran newsmagazine 20/20, which finished second with 6.75 million viewers and a 1.9/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Worth positively noting for 20/20 was the double-digit growth out of Ugly Betty.
Fox filled the night with repeats of House (Viewer: #4, 3.50 million; A18-49: #5, 1.1/ 4) and Bones (Viewers: #4, 4.00 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 4). And The CW capped it off with nine year-old Smallville (Viewers: #5, 2.70 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 4), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #5, 1.35 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2), which has plummeted to series lows this season. Of note for Smallville was a season-high performance in total viewers, and a season-high tie among adults 18-34 (1.2/ 5) and adults 18-49.

I went over this last week, but again this week, Numbers is the most watched on this block. It seems to me that Ghost Whisperer is the main problem on this night. It's limiting Medium's potential which in turn isn't doing much to help Numbers. If anything, Ghost Whisperer, not being a CBS Production, should be the one facing episode cutbacks until CBS can figure out how to stop the bleeding.

Well, I guess we know why Ghost Whisperer is falling. With competition this year, its not as strong as well all thought. NBC would be stupid to cancel Law and Order if these numbers hold.

Well, I sure hope so, because this season has been great, but I am pretty sure that advertisers don't pay for almost beating someone. Smallville is still very low compared to last year and I am pretty sure it isn't any cheaper to produce this year.

Sure it's not a winning performance by any means, but the slow climb in the demo is worth watching. I think once Ugly Betty is done ABC will slide Supernanny back to 9pm (where it can get a 1.8-2.0 demo) and put Wife Swap at 8pm where it will do numbers equal to or above Supernanny's current performance.
