----------
-Friday’s Winners: Nothing.
-Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats): The night overall.
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS was the most-watched network on this lackluster Friday, while ABC and the CW tied for first among adults 18-49. There is very little to say, unfortunately, when the top-rated network averages a mere 1.3 rating/5 share in the demo.
A repeat of Ghost Whisperer kicked-off the evening for CBS with 5.06 million viewers (#1) and a 1.0 rating/ 4 share among adults 18-49 (#4) from 8-9 p.m. That led into a double encore dose of Numb3rs as follows:
Numb3rs R (CBS) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.71 million (#1), A18-49: 1.2/ 4 (#2) 10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.75 million (#1), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#1t)
NBC aired two repeat episodes of Most Outrageous Moments (Viewers: #3: avg. 3.93 million; A18-49: #3, avg. 1.1/ 4 from 8-9 p.m.), Dateline (Viewers: #2, 4.25 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.1/ 4) and 10 p.m. special, Tim Russert Tribute (Viewers: #3, 5.10 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4), who passed away earlier that day of a fatal heart attack. For more on the beloved Mr. Russert, see section Remembering Tim Russert below.
ABC had a typically bland Friday with its combination of a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 4.88 million; A18-49: #1: 1.4/ 6), two repeat episodes of the inane According to Jim (Viewers: #5, avg. 3.28 million; A18-49: #3, avg. 1.1/ 4 from 9-10 p.m.), and veteran 20/20 (Viewers: #2, 5.50 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.6/ 5).
The CW’s soon-to-relocate Friday Night Smackdown! was fourth overall for the evening in total viewers (3.86 million), and tied for first among adults 18-49, with a 1.3/ 5 in the demo. And Fox capped off the evening with repeat theatrical Hollywood Homicide at just 3.49 million viewers and a 0.9/ 3 among adults 18-49 -- last in both categories.
To whet your appetite for the fall, here is what you will be seeing on Fridays beginning in September:
ABC 8:00 p.m. Wife Swap (new day and time) 9:00 p.m. Supernanny (new day) 10:00 p.m. 20/20

I am so saddened by the passing of Mr. Russert. What a wonderful interviewer & newsman he was! My prayers & condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, & other viewers who are as shocked & hurt by his sudden passing as I & my family are.
You will never be forgotten, Mr. Russert! And the memories are all GOOD!

Very sad news to learn about Mr. Russert's passing. NBC News hastily put together a good special last night, as did Larry King Live on CNN. Meet the Press will go on, but will never be the same without his unique style and deft questioning.
As to commentary on the ratings last night, AFHV got a relatively good number at 8 pm, only to see Jim send 1.6 million viewers to punch the numbers for different networks into their channel changer at 9 pm. ABC might be better off encoring "Samantha Who" in this slot, or summer encoring ABC FAMILY's upcoming series "MVP: He Shoots, She Scores" which gets a one-shot on ABC next Friday night after the Daytime Emmys.
And ABC still has seven unaired "Cavemen" episodes in the can that can help fill gaps in their sked this summer. I remind the programmers at the Alphabet that "Cavemen" averaged 4.4HH/7%, 2.4 A18-49, 6.456 million viewers in six airings, and finished the season as ABC's second highest ranked comedy, behind only "Samantha Who?".

I don't believe ABC will ever air those Cavement episodes. In terms of Friday programming, Duel will be returning.
When I worked at NBC he used to call me every week for his ratings. He was very nice and the ultimate professional.

Most pilots are already out on the internet for illegal download. I recall everyone watched Big Bang Theory this time last year because is was so buzzed about.

I wouldn't say "most". I ran a search for some of the pilots I'm interested in and came up empty. It's a little early for that. The leaks usually occur late July and throughout August. What I find ironic about Fringe leaking so early is that JJ Abrams and co attempted to keep it top secret, and even forbade journalists from reviewing it. And now we can all view the (unfinished) pilot and decide for ourselves.

Cavemen had 6.456 million viewers, but it was never against any tough competition. Plus it was in the 5 millions near the end of it's run, wasnt it? Cavemen will never see the light of day again, unless they are on the GEICHO commercials.

Watching the pilots early tends to diminish the excitement/enjoyment of the Fall TV season. With so few new shows anyway, why would people really want to mess with the sparce offerings they have to look forward to this Fall?
