The biggest surprise for last night may just be that Smallville was able to increase about 300,000 viewers from last week even as it went head-to-head with American Idol.

Wow, Grey's Anatomy over 16 million? When was the last time that happened? This show is really doing well again. I guess no CSI is helping it out.

Not that I mind a single cam show but for nbc not to develop any at all is crazy. Thank god for CBS with their multi cam shows and the great adventures of old christine and gary unmarried. Does it not say something that the top comedies are multi cam shows on cbs?

NBC might be DOA from here on out like The Can't Watch Network. Hopefully Southland hits for them and they can build the network around it.

Its been a tough decade but now the multi-cams are finally back.

What a piece of shit and waste of time In the Motherhood was. I actually thought it was going to be decent but it was really bad. The only thing that I would give it right now is that its the best of the current ABC comedies right now but that's not saying much folks. It was so bad that I turned to Idol for Smokey Robinson then as soon as Idol went to commercial break I turned to NBC only to notice how terrible their comedies are too then I finally turned to basketball and Friends on TBS and felt happy of getting my time back.

I really do miss NBC's Must See TV Thursday lineup and tonight it really hit more than it has in recent years. Watching Friends kind of took me back for a second.

Until Surviving Suburbia airs most of us who like watching true network sitcoms will be saved after 5 years of single-cam garbage. ABC is better off getting Roommates from ABC Family and replacing it.

If I want to see a single-cam comedy then I'll go watch My Boys on cable which is done the way a single-cam is supposed to be. Not an unfunny half-hour dramaedy.

Hopefully for our sakes SS will do well. It might have to do as well as SW did last year when it came out. Its good to see Steve learning his lesson and finally coming out with more of these traditional comedies in development as I think they'll be a successful as CBS has been with them lately.

The networks have ignored the traditional sitcom lovers for years and went single-cam happy after the success of Malcolm in the Middle on FOX and it hasn't worked for them at all. The best and only watchable single-cams are on cable like My Boys, Sunny in Philly, Weeds, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. They just don't work on networks b/c their too limited.

Do you have a link? I havent heard about this yet.

http://www.tvweek.com/news/200..._millionaire_rev.php

What you just said is what I've been trying to preach the last two years. The single-cam spell may finally end once SS gets a chance to get multi-cams back on the map on ABC and NBC.

I'm really surprised too that NBC has gone exclusively away from them. There seems to be more of a favoritism thing going on then doing it for the well being of the network. I think this is one of the main reasons why NBC has struggled b/c they've completely abandoned their audience watching them comedies and if they had two on their roster then they would start to climb out of fourth place most of the time.

The thing about multi-cams is that they never really left they just got tossed aside for single-cams.

I haven't seen GA since earlier this season. It must be cooking right now but I'm not ready to comeback to it just yet.

Very good numbers as ABC Thursday 9-11pm finally works.

Maybe an installation of Brothers & Sisters to lead off next season at 8pm will make the whole night for them a hit.

The person who wrote last nights ratings analysis at ABC clarified the many achievements of 'In the Motherhood' against tough, unforgiving competition:
quote:
FROM ABC:
“In the Motherhood” (8:00-8:30 p.m.)
ABC’s series debut of “In the Motherhood” upset “My Name is Earl” at 8:00 p.m., defeating NBC’s veteran comedy in both Total Viewers (6.7 million vs. 5.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 2.0/6). The new ABC comedy’s biggest advantage over “Earl” came among Women 18-34, where it nearly doubled its NBC comedy competitor with an 86% winning margin (2.6/8 vs. 1.4/4).
• Despite facing “Idol” in the time period this year, with the opener of “Motherhood” ABC was up in the half-hour over the year-ago night (with original programming) by 14% in Total Viewers (6.7 million vs. 5.9 million) and by 5% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 2.0/6). In fact among Adults 18-49, “Motherhood” generated ABC’s highest rating in the time slot in 6 weeks - since 2/12/09.

One other point. Did everyone else notice the new 'Cupid' bumpers that aired in every hour of last nights ABC line-up. ABC is really giving this romantic dramedy from Mr. Rob Thomas a classic Alphabet push, and I think it may surprise the industry with solid numbers (and gorgeous W18-34 stats) up against the tired CBS-NBC procedurals.

Love is in the air on ABC, where Spring is busting out all over.

The cast of revived dramedy 'Cupid', 10 pm Tuesdays on the ABC Television Network

I did notice that, dumont, however I as well as many others believe it will be too little too late. ABC had print and outdoor campaigns for Castle as well as the ITM/SW? comedy block, and has been doing very heavy on-air promotion for Castle, the comedies (including BOT), and The Unusuals (premiering two Wednesdays from now) many weeks in advance of their premieres. Cupid, OTOH, has only started seeing network primetime promos this week... with its premiere on Tuesday. I stand by a discussion I had in the comments section of my blog about this very subject earlier this week. Cupid's success, give the lack of promotional support, will require a small miracle.

Damn, what is up with that high demo for Hell's Kitchen? Sheesh. I'm glad Supernatural is renewed or Dawn would be eyeing it for cancellation because of that low demo. The fact that it's got a million more viewers than Gossip Girl wouldn't make any difference.

The lack of awareness is precisely why I'm giving it my "small miracle for success" qualifier. Failure is probably to be expected. Decent ratings would be a surprise. Success... well, I've already said it a couple times! It does have the benefit of the DWTS Results show lead-in... of course, DWTS Results show is, what, number three in its timeslot in the demo (behind Biggest Loser and The Mentalist) and number two in viewers (behind The Mentalist)?

HK's demo really was high last night, wasn't it? Even up against demo-grabbers The Office and Grey's Anatomy, it did fantastic.

I don't hate it by any means and am very happy for the show which has recently rebounded nicely.

Smallville has always held its own to Idol. Too bad don't have another program like this to air against Idol. Gilmore Girls was always another strong performer against Idol.
