I knew CSI would win handily, but I did not think it would beat GA in demo's..Great Job CSI... I see CSI not only staying around the 19-20 million per episode, but it could actually beat GA many times in the demo.

You don't "Official" ratings for those numbers.

Just use about 60% of your fingers and thats the total viewers for Hockey last night. Wink

But...I thought Supernatural was on fire this season. There was a very Important article just a few days ago from a very Important Blog that said: "'Supernatural' Season 4 Experiences a Ratings Surge!11"
What about SuperJesusDean? The incredibly fantastic addition of the angel? The episodes with just Ackles?
Maybe it was a really crappy season all along and now that all the regular shows are back Supernatural is back to the same low ratings since the end of season 2?
So going back to the winning formula of season one, just two brothers fighting evil and not fighting each other, wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Remember the LOST clones tanking...INVASION, SURFACE and the CBS version whose name escapes me now.

'THRESHOLD'? 'NOW AND AGAIN'? 'AMERICAN GOTHIC'?

The sci-fi clone that was the third part of the trio with Invasion and Surface was Threshold. That was the worst case in my recent memory of the Big 3 going after basically the same plot executed 3 different ways...

The one thing I noticed about LOM was the two shows we saw on the 70's TV were old CBS Crime Shows (Cannon & Kojak).

Plus, how odd was it to here THE WHO in a segment when its the same song that opens for CSI:NY. Not the best choice of music for that segment. Made me think of the other show.

It's a procedural with sci-fi elements, except the procedural happens to be a '70s cop show. The cases each week are '70s cop show cases, but with elements of "what's going on with the main character" -- hearing voices, seeing things from his past, etc. The narration from the original UK show explains the premise very well:

"My name is Sam Tyler. I had a (car) accident, and I woke up in 1973. Am I (crazy), in a coma or back in time? Whatever it is, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home."

CSI beat Grey's Anatomy in demo...not that it means much. It was a premiere versus a regular episode.

Now if only CBS could delay CSI two weeks annually. Big Grin

Just getting Marc to stop writing that it should have ended years ago to save its dignity is enough of a win.

Well, ER should have ended about 3 years ago.

The article also reminded me about the DVR factor, and I think Life on Mars will definitely be a top-10 DVR show, helping its final numbers...

I actually think it could be the other way around.
I DVRed 11th Hour and watch Life On Mars, LIVE.
I think there was more of a couriosity factor with LOM than with 11H

Good point, but many people may have only DVRed LOM and not bothered with 11th Hour, or may have DVRed 11th Hour but may never bother to watch or finish watching the entire episode in 7 days...

For the record, I DVRed both, but essentially watched LOM "nearly-live" (Live+same day, which I think is already included in these ratings here, correct?)

It has a good chance of getting its "Second Wind" once Lawrence Fisheburn joins the cast and Grissom leaves the show.

This could be a very good year for CSI

Alot of you guys are pretty smart because some of you predicted CSI being between 20-25 million viewers for its premiere and Grey's going down because of it.

I told you guys before SNL really should have a spot in prime time on Thursdays and rebuild that Comedy Night Done Wrong roster. Had 30 Rock used the SNL format they would've been a hit show. They need some better writing also. SNL is really the first multi-cam live audience showcase on NBC in 3 years. SNL is capable of producing half-hour shows and if NBC was smart they would do this regularly.

Life on Mars was the biggest surprise for me because Grey's post 10pm timeslot especially for new shows or crime dramas seem to fail there like their cursed. Life on Mars is a different story and the 70s backdrop for the show is a winner for me. This is turning into one of my new favorite shows this season. Eleventh Hour failing was surprising, but it might pick up if ABC decides to move Mars on Tuesday or Wednesdays. EH was good too as the female cop acting tough was a good and bad thing at the same time.

Baseball failed because there was no Cubs. It sort of feels like both series were what both networks wanted and FOX paid for it. The Dodgers are not a huge draw nationally like the Cubs are and that made the difference.

UB needs to be moved and Survivor is still dominate as they come up on 9 years, I think a move to Sunday will benefit this series in the long run.

I'll have my column for Wednesday and Thursday combined in about an hour.

To be fair, wasn't ABC barely a network in 1973? Wink Or at least didn't have the most popular shows.

As for the music...eh, I don't think "CSI NY" is that ubiquitous. If they'd used the "CSI" theme, that'd be different.

No, baseball failed because it was Game 1 on Thursday night against the "CSI" season premiere, an SNL political special and two highly-hyped drama series premieres (in addition to appointment TV like "Grey's Anatomy," "Survivor" and "The Office")

I don't think even Red Sox/Yankees would've made a dent in last night's ratings. A better indicator for baseball will be tonight and Saturday (when the competition isn't so tough).
