This Fall's numbers will still be good, but next spring may show its age. That will be 4 straight cycles in 2 years. At least AI has the smarts to do only 1 per season.

I feel that this year was just a dull year for them, full of dull contestants(from what I have heard). I think if the contestants are good, the ratings will be there.

True, 23 million is really within striking distance now! I hope ABC and/or CBS put one of their big guns against AI in January. I actually would not mind if they put LOST opposite Idol at 8pm in February, or put DWTS: Results @ 8pm leading into LOST @ 9pm. I doubt Cavemen and Carpoolers will last till then anyway...
"A ratings goliath" is an exageration. Maybe if u compare it with Veronica Mars. Exactly one year ago AI reached almost 29 million viewers. There is a chance next year will surge again, but right now my money is on a continue decline.

I think if ABC's midseason lineup for Monday and Tuesday does decent business (and that seems possible at least on Monday), then they may be able to save Dancing from having to air twice. If I were the alphabet, I would hope that the Wednesday lineup scores well enough for full seasons of each. Then on Tuesday at midseason, throw in Oprah and the new drama Cashmere Mafia and in February replace the lower rated of the two with Lost.

I am not sure why the country ratings would go down so much considering how big Carrie Underwood is.
The ceiling for Boston Legal after DWTS seems to be around 10 million. But why wouldn't you stick with that because who knows if those 10 million would follow BL to Monday competing against CSI Miami, Wednesday CSI NY and Medium, Thursday's a big no and Friday is also a big no. I think Tuesday is where BL will work best.

AI started off this season with around 35 million people. I think in one of the half hours, it reached 40 million. Granted more people turn into the audition portion to see bad performances and then tune out but the audience is there and they can be drawn in if they like the singers. The talent the judges picked this year are lackluster or bland.
