Numb3rs is not failing. What you see is an effect of the baseball game.
I was judging Numbers against the performance of GW and Medium which also went up against baseball last week and this week but they went up this week while Numbers did not.
The end of a tied game going into extra innings pulls in more viewership than early innings. Wait until the Nielsen data comes out for the baseball game and it will be clear why Numb3rs lost some viewers/demo.
I think Numb3rs is on the sink. The show hasn't done as well as its lead ins any of the weeks so far. The end is likely near.
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is giving viewers an extra dose of "So You Think You Can Dance" on Monday, October 26 at 8:00/7:00c.
The one-hour special will showcase the top 20 finalists in a non-elimination format. The following night, October 27, "Dance" begins its two-hour performance shows.
Said October 26 installment will replace "House" that night however "Lie to Me" will air as scheduled at 9:00/8:00c.

When I first heard of the Leno thing, I thought they'd be better off doing this at 8pm if they had to do it (although I still don't like it).
At least had they done it at 8pm, we wouldn't have shows like Law & Order airing at 8pm.
Honestly, I still don't think its too late to make the swap.
Run Leno at 8pm and then do the following from 9-11pm
Monday: Parenthood, Dateline Tuesday: Biggest Loser 1, SVU Wednesday: Biggest Loser 2, L&O Thursday: The Office, Community, Apprentice Friday: 30 Rock, Parks, Dateline Sunday: Chuck, Heroes, TBD Drama
At least then, they get some bang at 10pm and waste the Leno crap at 8pm.
I don't think they're giving Leno a chance at any other time period, but If I was NBC, I'd be pretty desperate.
I wonder if NBC would consider airing Chuck at 8pm on Thursdays for their Comedy Night Done Right, as I see Chuck as a one-hour dramedy, but more comedy. Putting it on Mondays would help nothing since that's where it was last year and almost got canceled and Fridays is just going to kill it. I don't think it's compatible with any other show in the timeslot, and I surely would watch it over TVD (but I'm not CW's demo anyway). Although, it is a pretty competitive night...

VD is a new show that has potential to grow its audience, while Smallville is a nine-year-old show without much growth potential.
Supernatural has suffered without the Smallville lead in. Maybe they will move it to Fridays. At least then if both shows pull in the 2 ½ million viewers, they have a solid Friday night when it comes to the CW standards.
Pft, that's better than Fox standards at this moment! I think the Smallville/Supernatural pairing on Fridays could somewhat work. This genre (suspense and supernatural) seems to be taking over Fridays... Ghost Whisperer, Medium, Dollhouse, Smallville.

I think NBC needs to consider a total revamp come midseason (post-Olympics): Sundays: Dateline Apprentice (2 hours) SVU
Thursdays: 100 Questions 30 Rock The Office Community
Fridays: Law and Order Dateline *you could consider swapping these but I like Law and Order against 2 other different dramas instead of 3 other dramas at 9pm.

My, oh my, to have your superpowers
As far as I know, people want it to end because Kripke talked about a five-year-plan but lately, he started going back on that and talking about a new chapter that they could start. But yeah, why should the fans actually support the producer? Sheesh, silly me
I'm sure that Kripke and the CW will do as they please regardless of what a few people on this board think, so there's no need to berate others for having an opinion.
You are right. Neither Kripke or the CW care about the opinion of the members of this forum. And my reply to the naysayers? Exactly what you see: rolling my eyes on responses like "just the idea of S6 makes me puke in my mouth" or "I so want the show to tank in ratings" and "I want this show to end this year" - wow, with fans like this, I'm surprised the show even lasted five years. If the show was growing stale and boring, I could understand that but to want a show to be canceled because it might grow stale and boring? Sorry if I don't understand that.

And that can refer to SPN or Smallville or really, just about any CW show. The only plan they ever have is to stay on the air as long as possible.
Actually, it can refer to any show out there I think that many people think/thought the same thing about, for example, Lost...
But seriously, Kripke said that he had the main plot points planned out (like the fact that Sam and Dean would end up fighting Lucifer), the space between was all vague ideas that changed with time. Every season was a closed chapter in itself: S1 - they were looking for their dad; S2 - they were hunting Azazel; S3 - they were trying to save Dean; S4 - they were trying to prevent Lilith from starting the Apocalypse; S5 - they are trying to stop the Apocalypse. Every season finale was the end of a chapter but it left enough loose ends to add another chapter. Why are people so convinced that it won't/can't be so now even though Kripke himself said it could - that logic is beyond my comprehension.

Rather nice to see 'Dollhouse' rebound back to the 1's in A18-49 after last weeks lower-than-expected episode, which may have taken a hit going up against the highly anticipated two-hour series premiere of SYFY's 'Stargate: Universe'.
The baseball playoff game this coming Friday may interrupt this growth momentum, so FOX will have to make sure to give it a few promotional bumpers the night before it returns on the Thursday October 22nd episode of 'Fringe'.
Miss Eliza Dushku stars in 'Dollhouse', Fridays at 9:00 pm across the FOX Television Network.

Once again I ask. Exactly which of CW's highly female skewing shows do they put on Thursdays at 9 against Grey's Anatomy? It's not going to happen. Supernatural is not going to move this season. That would be disastrous. They'd get lower ratings than they have now Thursdays at 9. Are you talking next year? It is more profitable for a network to have a solid ratings block on Thursdays than it is on Fridays. All the new movies (including Warners produced movies) are advertised on Thursdays. Any network makes more money moving its best shows to Thursdays. That's why Grey's was moved to Thursdays from Sundays. That's why CSI, which premiered on Fridays, was moved to Thursday.
Thursday is more important to CW than Fridays. That's why Smallville was shunted off. It's a stop gap measure to get whatever they can out of Friday. And curious--blow it out your ears. I'm as big a fan of SPN as you. If worrying about the quality of your show slipping into Smallville levels makes me a "non fan," then I'd rather be a "non fan" by your standards. If they have a sixth season and it is good, I will be more than thrilled. However, I fear that with Kripke most likely gone that won't happen. I fear that there's nowhere to go in the story after they defeat Lucifer. What part of that is difficult for you to understand? Have you not seen the crap Smallville put on the screen in it's post-fifth season?

The CW is in trouble every night of the week, I think we can pull a random member of this site and they can do a better job leading the network. The same can be said for NBC.

Then we will have to agree on disagreeing. I for one want to see where the writers take the show after the Winchesters defeat Lucifer, once they are freed of the "baggage" of Apocalypse and can open entirely new roads.
And as for Smallville, I don't watch the show but my friends are totally excited about S9 so far and they can't wait to see more - the only thing they are miffed about is the actor playing Zod. So, I guess different people have different opinions of what's boring *shrugs*

I think its pretty much a given that Supernatural has a tough time slot and will be back. At the same time, I don't think the show would do all that well in another slot and certainly not better on Fridays. That said, its a good fit for that hour. OTH and the other shows on the fence that are more female skewing couldn't do any better in the slot, probably worse.
I think the CW will quite possibly keep OTH or Smallville for next year. Both will depend on how much $ the network is making off each. Syndication episodes is a key factor here too. If the network feels more episodes is a good thing compared to the cost to make them, the network will bring them back. Syndication revenue, DVD sales, iTunes sales, etc. are the reason the CW still exists. The network's studio arms make money off the shows and they provide a better option for the affiliates than going independent. The network itself as a national entity is really just a platform the studios are financing to use to air their shows and even the CW may come close to breaking even with their heavy female focus. In that demo, the network has to be up big. I bet even Smallville pulls better female demos than the likes of the Game on Fridays.
I disagree here. While I don't like their choices for some shows, the network does have a brand. That's something NBC doesn't have.

NBC should flip Dateline and Law and Order. L&O would benefit from higher viewership at 9 and since it's costing them more to produce it they should leverage that.
