It wouldn't surprise me if they decided to build their own "scifi/horror Friday" - I mean, the CW isn't really known for its bright and original ideas Razzer Though I wonder what they would "sacrifice" on Thursday at 9pm. Might be interesting to see if another show can match or outgrow SPN's numbers there.

It's not really a "sacrifice" though, is it? Supernatural isn't really doing anything special compared with other "hit" shows on CW and pairing Vampire Dairies with another show isn't a bad idea. Buffy is getting a movie remake - maybe they'll develop it into a show idea...

Why do so many people suggest moving Fringe to Friday? That would just be an unnecessary death sentence when we have clearly seen that it can produce high ratings in another time period than Thursday at 9.

Fringe should move to Tuesday at 9 and air behind AI again come January and then FOX can make a smarter decision for the coming fall and not air it against GA and CSI again.

BTW can anyone explain to me why The CW would air a repeat of MP on Wednesday and an original episode of Smallville on Friday instead of the other way around?

I didn't suggest anything... I merely stated that I think that's what is going through their minds. What I did suggest was that they move the comedies to Sunday.

I don't think the flow of Smallville out of Top Model would be very good.

First off, good for Law and Order building 0.3 demo points over last week. It's growing slowly but surely week over week along with SVU. Dateline did okay and Leno while a 1.3 is bad... its lead in was a 1.5 so it isn't that bad...

CBS seems a little down overall. Ghost Whisperer is still doing great but not like last season. Medium is the perfect fit currently but Numbers is the weak link.

Fridays at 10pm are at a dead heat right now, a 1.5, 1.4 and 1.3?

FOX is still ouch. I like Dollhouse and all but renewing it was a really bad idea. Watch as Brothers gets a better rating on Sundays.

Still some okay repeat numbers for ABC's new shows.

Still wish The CW didn't have to repeat ANTM, just a waste of space.

I wonder how Monk and Psych have been doing... Arg, Psych has got its fall finale next week... it was so fast... but in two weeks we get White Collar! Silver lining.

In case there was any doubt, Lauren Graham officially takes over Maura Tierney's part in Parenthood.

No, Supernatural isn't doing anything special - but it has one huge advantage compared to other, younger shows on the CW: it's not geared towards W18-34, that's never been its target demo. That's why it's been able to somehow hold its own in viewers but especially in the A18-49 demo against GA and The Office. SPN and SV are the only shows on the CW that are not targeting W18-34 or younger. Put, I don't know, 90210 there and GA would crush it in life viewings. When you air against a powerhouse in the demo that makes most of your viewers...

Did I read someone suggested that another CW show be aired Thursdays at 9 to see if it can increase the ratings in that slot?

HA! Now that's the funniest thing I've read all day. As you said, which of CW's highly female skewing shows do they air against the female demo juggernaut known as Grey's Anatomy? You either put Smallville or Supernatural in the time slot since they're the "guy" shows. SPN is the higher quality of those two, so you keep it on Thursdays. I'd love SPN to move. I'm not far enough out in left field to think it will ever happen. Not even the CW is that stupid.

OT will end only if other actors refuse to come back or if CW calls it quits. OTH does much better in the W18-34 demo than SV and SN and it's a much better fit for CW's darling GG.

It does but nowhere near GoGi's level of W18-34. But as I said, if the CW must choose among these three, I think it would be OTH that would go. SV helped the CW with its Friday ratings and both Tom Welling and Erica Durance are signed for S10. SPN is doing better in the A/W18-34 demos this year thanks to its lead-in, both Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are signed for S6 and it's close to syndication that might bring the WB more money so the WB might be willing to sacrifice ratings for syndication money. And besides, their female oriented shows would never stand up against GA/The Office, no way, no how. That's why I think that these two shows will survive one more year. I'm not saying that OTH is doing bad or worse in ratings. I don't know if the actors are signed for more seasons. But I would say that there are fewer points speaking for this show than for the other two.

I think that their decision to keep these shows or cancel them won't be most likely ratings related, though. I think TPTB will be looking at how profitable they are in general, not just how much advertisement money they garner. They can afford that because all three shows are the WB's.

The thought of SPN continuing after this season makes me puke a little bit in my mouth. Has anyone ever campaigned for a show to END?
I think OTH and SV will continue and SPN will be cancelled with SV being given the slot SPN is in now.

Actually - it wouldn't surprise me if Smallville got another season, based on the fact that it's now doing pretty much as well as their other "hit" shows; between 2-3 million viewers seem to be the rage on the CW these days! Unless they decide to let go of Friday night entirely, because I can't imagine them finding another show to air there...

Why do I get the feeling that Fox will soon try to dump Fringe on Fridays? Either to replace the comedies or Dollhouse...

Yeah it does extremely well on a friday and is on par with most of their other shows. There should definetely be a final 10th season to finish this cult show off

A lot of SPN fans think it would be a good idea for it to end after this season, not because it's bad but because they want it to end on a high note of quality. No one wants SPN to turn into a joke like Smallville. I sure don't. I love SPN. I believe, for creative reasons, that five seasons is best. Have you read the synopsis for episode 7? It comes off like a comedy in the preview, but it's going to be anything but. It has the potential to be extremely poignant.

A tenth season for Smallville? That's ridiculous. How long can he put off being Superman? Until he has gray hair?

Not compared to renewing Dollhouse. Face it, the networks are doing a lot of dumb things. They're all headed for the scrap heap, sooner or later.

Yeah and the most ridiculous decisions the networks has made goes to FOX and CW

FOX for moving Fringe to thursday only after a season with 20 episodes. Who even came up with this suicide idea Roll Eyes

CW for moving their highest rated scripted show Smallville to fridays. They literally must have checked their brains at the door to come up with this debacle of a decision. Talk about idiots running a network Big Grin

I love the show, but I want it to end this year. I just don't see where they can go creatively after fighting the devil and (presumably) stopping the end of the world. I'd like to see the show go out while its still on top of its game, rather than becoming an un-recognisable mess.
