it did manage to build by 17 percent among adults 18-49.
Also, as previously mentioned, if Big Brother does around what it did in their summer numbers, (6 to 7 million) they'd be happy with that. Note also that the Summer Premiere was pretty close to this and it wasn't facing American Idol!

In season-premiere news, season No. 8 of CBS’ perennial Big Brother (yes…time does fly!) opened with 7.44 million viewers and a 2.7/10 among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m.
1. Jericho did better than i personally expected but is still disappointing. Nobody will save it this time
2. Please don't find more excuses for BL. It's below WMC's demos and viewership number now. A show that cannot stand on its own after four seasons should go.
3. Great numbers for OTH. It's clearly gonna return next season (that if CW returns next year and if Ostroff has not lost her minds). In your face Gossip Girl!
Jericho's 2.5 was higher than it did in any of its spring airings last year (which were in the 2.1-2.4 range). But it was a lot lower in viewers... probably got help from the BB lead-in. It would not do substantially better anywhere else on CBS' current schedule. It'll get these seven and be done.
Big Brother pulling 7 mil plus and 2.7 against an Idol that was over 13 demo and approaching 32 million viewers is, IMO, fairly positive.
Reaper repeats and OTH continue to inch upward. Boston Legal, though I do like the show, keeps getting weaker and weaker.
It's better to keep a show like Boston Legal that will do solid numbers following another hit rather than to have something else on that will lose massive numbers of viewers. And really, following a show that has less than 4 million viewers? Are there that many shows out there that would equal the numbers following Dancing With The Stars?

I posted last week that CBS is trying to kill JERICHO once and for all by putting it in the death slot at 10PM Tuesdays.
It's more of a family show so it should be on at 8PM-Sundays would probably be best.
BIG BROTHER always opens with low looking ratings but they tick up at the season goes on and the deadwood is cut from the show.
Feel bad for Parker...the brother was set up not to get anything since his partner is secretly with that guy Ryan. Allison is super hot and is my favorite player..hopeully she lasts.

If not for the strike, I would agree with you, but a lot of the fall shows are down significantly this spring. I think people knew there was a strike and once the big shows went into repeats, they figured all of them did. People have just stopped watching TV as much.
If BL (and the others that have dropped this spring) continue to bring in low numbers after all the shows come out with new episodes, then we can talk about canceling.

BL is now in its fourth season. Do you think it still needs a lead-in? If it's so good people will watch it with or without lead-in. The sad truth is BL was never a hit and now it rapidly become a modest show. I mean 1.8 in demos is really pathetic.
CBS never should have done that 3 month gap in the 2006-2007 season.
Actually, that scheduling decision made sense. Jericho couldn't possibly have churned out the back 11 episodes any sooner than that. Most dramas don't wrap production of their 22nd episode until early April each year.
The break didn't help, but there wasn't too much else CBS could've plausibly done. IIRC, some of the back 11 episodes were up against AI, and that probably hurt more than anything. Thus, it wouldn't have worked for them to hold back the whole show for midseason a la 24 either.

CBS is the first network out of the gate with its post-strike lineup, one that will bring nearly all of its scripted series -- from "CSI" to "How I Met Your Mother" -- back to the airwaves.
The network will gradually rebuild its regular lineup, starting with the Monday comedies "HIMYM," "The Big Bang Theory" and "Two and a Half Men," which are set to return Monday, March 17. Dramas will move back into their spots over the following three weeks, with "CSI: Miami" the first to return on Monday, March 24.
All the returning shows will produce at least four new episodes, and in the case of the Monday comedies as many as nine (the exception being "Rules of Engagement," which will air four new episodes in April and May after "Old Christine" finishes its run). "CSI: Miami" will produce eight new shows, while "NCIS" and "Criminal Minds" will do seven apiece.
There's no word on "The Unit," which is on hiatus while CBS airs a winter run of "Big Brother," or "Cane," which completed its initial 13-episode run in December. "Shark" will go back into production for four episodes, but its return date isn't nailed down. The new drama "Swingtown," which hasn't been scheduled yet, will also resume production
Here's a breakdown of CBS' return schedule. Dates and number of episodes are estimates by the network.

As a Big Brother fan, I'm pleasantly surprised with last night's ratings. It went up against 2 popular reality shows and still managed to pull the same numbers it gets during the summer. Once the DVR numbers are factored in, BB's ratings should jump a bit higher.
Tonight it's in the same timeslot as American Idol (again) and also Deal or No Deal. If it can manage a 2.5 in the demo, CBS should be thrilled.
It looks like the demise of AI was greatly exaggerated. Once people see the talent this year, the show might gain viewers.
It is quite spectacular what OTH is doing this year opposite stiff competition on FOX. The writing has been brilliant, the acting superb, and people keep tuning in..
As for Jericho, I am really disappointed. The fans got it back on the air, the episode last night was very good, and the ratings dropped. If people are going to work to save a show, the least they can do is watch it and convince friends to watch it too..
I think 90% of the shows airing after 9pm out there need some type of lead-in. Nothing great, but something that can pull more than 4 million would be acceptable.
