Prime-Time Ratings:
Wednesday 2/13/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 19.53 million, NBC: 10.10, CBS: 7.07, ABC: 6.48, CW: 1.28

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 7.9 rating/21 share, NBC: 2.7/ 7, ABC: 2.5/ 6, CBS: 2.0/ 5, CW: 0.6/ 1

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
American Idol (Fox), The Moment of Truth (Fox), Law & Order (NBC)

-Honorable Mention:
Deal or No Deal (NBC), Supernanny (ABC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
Big Brother: ‘Til Death Do Us Part (CBS), Wife Swap (ABC), America’s Next Top Model Exposed (CW), Cashmere Mafia (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another slam-dunk midweek victory for Fox care of American Idol (Viewers: 24.59 million; A18-49: 9.8 rating/25 share) and the top-rated new series of the season, game show The Moment of Truth (Viewers: 14.47 million; A18-49: 6.2/16). Once again, Fox outdelivered the four competing networks combined among adults 18-49. But keep in mind that part of the average for The Moment of Truth included the last few minutes of American Idol. As for Idol, too bad Josiah did not make the final cut. Hopefully, he will find a way to get to the auditions again next year.

NBC held the distant No. 2 spot with its combination of Deal or No Deal (Viewers” 10.99 million; A18-49: 2.7/ 7), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #2, 9.07 million; A18-49: #3, 2.5/ 7) and Law & Order (Viewers: #1, 10.24 million; A18-49: #1, 3.0/ 8). Given the contestant was playing with a record 13 million dollar cases on Deal or Deal last night, can anyone tell me what happened? Between American Idol and CBS’ Big Brother I missed it!

Speaking of Big Brother (themed ‘Til Death Do Us Part), the results were not positive, with just 5.81 million viewers (#3) and a 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#3). Maybe I missed something, but why was one couple already evicted last night? As for Sheila and Adam, oy! Also on CBS were repeats of Criminal Minds (Viewers: #4, 7.75 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 5) and CSI: NY (Viewers: #2, 7.66 million; A18-49: #2, 2.1/ 6) from 9-11 p.m. Both dramas will be returning with original episodes on April 2.

ABC had a typically mundane Wednesday, with the one bright spot remaining Supernanny, which built out of Wife Swap by 3.42 million viewers and 89 percent among adults 18-49. Take a look:

Wednesday/ABC
8:00 p.m. Wife Swap - Viewers: 5.38 million (#4), A18-49: 1.9/ 5 (#4)
9:00 p.m. Supernanny – Viewers: 8.80 million (#3), A18-49: 3.6/ 9 (#2)
10:00 p.m. Cashmere Mafia – Viewers: 5.26 million (#3), A18-49: 2.0/ 5 (#3)

Last, and very least, was the CW with part two of clips show America’s Next Top Model Exposed (Viewers: 1.42 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 2) and a repeat of One Tree Hill (Viewers: 1.14 million; A18-49: 0.5/ 1). The sad reality of the 8 p.m. hour last night, by the way, was every show of a non-scripted nature.

It looks like AI took a little step back. I thought the numbers were lower than I thought. Hey Marc, can you get the numbers from the same Top 24 show last year. As for the contestants, who are some of these people. I probably don't recognize half of them. I thought there were going to be more interesting contestants this year than last, but I'm not sure now. I think the girls look stronger than the guys. We'll see. MOT also took a step back last night. It will probably be around 14 million when the final numbers come out. Still not bad, but it won't have the idol lead-in anymore. At that point, it will grab 9-11 million viewers. Still not bad for television today.

BB9 was pretty low last night. I still understand it's going up against DOND and AI so I still think it's not taht bad. We'll see how it does the next few weeks with AI top 24 comp. How long is this BB9 gonna last for? With all the shows coming back for CBS, there's gotta be some resuffling for this show since it airs 3 times a week. Rest of their line up was as expected considering repeats.

NBC had solid numbers with DOND and the L & O's. Will someone win the million already. I think once that happens, numbers will drop for DOND because all the suspense will be gone. This show probably has one more year of shelf life with the daily show coming out in the fall. That will probably be a year or so like the Weakest Link.

ABC...just bad, except for Supernanny. Must admit, those are pretty good numbers. I guess this Feb sweeps is just a wash leading up to April and May. Kinda curious how much viewer loss is going to occur.

I could be wrong, but I think this is the first year they devoted an entire hour to announcing the top 24. Usually it follows the narrowing down and some performances. Based on tuesday nights considerably higher ratings I think people thought the announcements would have been made sooner. Obviously ratings should rebound come tuesday, but if they don't it could be a bit more concerning.

As bad as that is for the other two shows, I can't believe how incredibly well Supernanny is holding up -- I wonder how well it'd do if it had a better lead-in?

ABC must be noticing too, because they have a new Supernanny spin-off pilot called SuperManny, about a male nanny that hands out advice...

I turned it on around 8:45 and they were bringing out the woman to play with 13 cases. (Didn't see how the firefighter did with 12 million dollar cases) When I flipped back around 8:55 she had JUST picked her case so I assume they will pick up from there next time. I've heard this is as far as it will go and I guess they'll keep 13 til someone wins?

Big Brother #'s - Yikes! For an important spoiler (not related to the actual game itself, but to a scandal/shakeup with the contestants), check out the Big Brother message thread. (IN the returning shows area, not the Summer Series)

Idol ratings Wednesday were down 15% from the comparable episode a year ago. Tuesday night's episode was only down 3%. Overall, the show is down about 13% year over year in 2+ numbers. I'm not sure 18-49.

I think BB probably did as well as it could have considering it was up against AI and DoND....it's not a total disaster, and the 18-49's were decent. Next Wednesday might be a bit more telling (the 12 women AI qualifiers perform, but it seems like the 24 to 12 round has trended a little down in the past-it'll depend on the strength of the singers and whether the sexes are balanced talentwise or if one gender looks to be better than the other)...CBS probably will be OK with it for now.

2.1 is decent? Not even for CBS. I do think with 5 reality shows all on at the same time, it did drain some of the audience for BB though.

BIG BROTHER definatly deserves some slack cut to it. Anything is going to get pummelled against A.I....its an undisputed fact.

Also look at the ratings every year and they go up as the season unfolds...part of that is for some reason people can't keep track of who is who in the house until the numbers dwindle. Also BB8 tainted the series because of the Donatos (who I actually enjoyed and thought they livened up the series but a lot of fans were repelled).

Give it some time and things will tick up.

Holy S@#t..that's a HUGE development. But I am happy for the person that benefited from it.

Does anyone know if last year, American Idol brought two people back -- sort of like wild cards? I know they did that in the past and I'm not talking about because they had to eliminate someone else. That's why i'm hoping that josiah and the turkey farm boy come back.

By the way -- does anyone else think that ABC should not put Lost after Grey's? I certainly love the lead in but I just don't think that Lost is a 10P show -- it is on too late and it's really a family type show.
