Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
----------
-Yesterday’s Winners: NCIS (CBS), Dancing With the Stars (ABC), Law & Order: SVU (NBC)
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS and Fox shared the top spot on this fourth Tuesday of the 2007-08 season. CBS was first overall in total viewers, while the ongoing American League Championship Baseball Series led Fox to victory among adults 18-49. The game four match-up averaged an approximate 11.71 million viewers and a 3.7 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 in prime-time. One year earlier, game five of the National League Championship Series (New York Mets vs. St. Louis) scored a similar 11.12 million viewers and a 3.6/10 among adults 18-49. As a reminder, fast affiliate results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
Warhorse NCIS opened the evening for CBS on a winning note, with 17.40 million viewers and a 4.1/12 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. That led into male-oriented The Unit (Viewers: #3, 12.27 million, A18-49: #3, 3.5/ 9 at 9 p.m.), which fits well out of NCIS, followed by week four of Cane at a series-low 8.50 million viewers and a 2.2/ 6 among adults 18-49. At this point, disappointing Cane (Sorry, Rita Moreno!) has now outlasted prior regularly scheduled occupants Smith and 3 Lbs.
Despite the strength of Dancing With the Stars, ABC finished only third overall in total viewers. Week three of the moronic Cavemen kicked-off the evening third in both total viewers (6.92 million) and adults 18-49 (2.7/ 8), followed by the equally sophomoric Carpoolers at 6.96 million viewers (#3) and a 2.7/ 7 in the demo (#3). Comparably, these were both close to depressed levels from one week earlier. As the saying goes, tick, tock, the cancellation clock is ticking! Carpoolers led into the live Dancing With the Stars Results Show at a dominant 17.03 million viewers and a 4.3/11 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m., followed by Boston Legal at a third-place 10.22 million viewers and a 2.8/ 8 in the demo at 10 p.m. So long, Floyd Meriwether. Although wooden Mark Cuban managed to avoid the bottom two, it won’t be long until he is back counting his billions.
Dateline Special, Matt Lauer Presents, opened for NBC with 5.73 million viewers (#4) and a last-place 1.7/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. That led into a one-hour edition of The Biggest Loser (Viewers: #4, 6.90 million; A18-49: #4, 3.0/ 8), and veteran Law & Order: SVU at a first-place 12.54 million viewers and a 4.8/13 in the demo from 9-11 p.m.
Although the CW finished last with its combination of Beauty and the Geek (Viewers: 3.55 million; A18-49: 1.8/ 5) and Reaper (Viewers: 3.25 million; A18-49: 1.5/ 4), week-to-week the network built on Tuesday by 470,000 viewers and 14 percent among adults 18-49. That’s a step in the right direction.

If the two shows have already leveled off, they may be around a little longer than wanted. At least until after the New Year.
I'm so Glad with Reaper... Marc, do you can post a Half Hour Breakdowns for Reaper and Beauty & Geek, please????
Thanks!

Sheesh, Cavemen is holding on better than I thought it would.
Believe it or not, the show does have a fanbase, and there are people who will go on watching devotedly until it goes extinct. And then probably start an online petition to revoke said extinction.
The cancellation clock is definitely ticking, but it's not ready to strike just yet.
About the New Series Report Card... I find it interesting that, in the key demo, a quote-unquote "hit" like Women's Murder Club is finishing behind "Journeyman", "Carpoolers", "Chuck" and "Life"... all four of which Marc considers either disappointing or losers.
Cane is really killing CBS in that slot. I know it's a dead-zone time period for CBS. Still, if they could find a show to at least average a high 2 in the demo they would have a shot on Tuesdays in the demo.
ABC is actually doing better with Caveman and Carpoolers than I thought they would. Not that either show will be back next year, but that is not the worst 8:00 demo in this market.
I guess not many cared, "where in the world Matt Lauer was" - not even if it was the men's room at an airport.

Yep. I am expecting with the DWTS overrun, for BL to be at about 9.80 or something and a 2.7 or so in the demo. Pretty much on point with the last 3 weeks. Stable, as usual. Something ABC can count on. And with baseball on FOX, that is one reason it may not be over 10 million viewers.
Originally posted by TV-aholic: That would be suprising if it does. It hads been fairly strong this season. I wonder what the factors are for the decline

NCIS, The Unit, and Reaper are among the shows that got sweet little upticks from Bones/House being out of the way. Good for Reaper, considering I thought it was easily the best ep since the pilot.
Cavemen/Carpoolers join the "stable" gang.
Cane bled another 600K and 0.2 demo based on fast nats, despite The Unit putting up a season high. If it finds its way into 2.1 territory in the finals, it's probably time to give up on this one.
