-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC scored a midweek victory, with the 42nd Annual CMA Awards at a hefty 15.87 million viewers and a 5.0 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m., finishing first in every half hour. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
The 42nd Annual CMA Awards
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 15.03 million, A18-49: 4.2/12
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 15.76 million, A18-49: 4.6/12
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 16.93 million, A18-49: 5.4/14
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 16.44 million, A18-49: 5.3/13
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 16.17 million, A18-49: 5.4/14
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 14.89 million, A18-49: 4.9/13
Comparably, this was right on par with it’s year-ago performance (Viewers: 15.95 million; A18-49: 5.4/14 on Nov. 7, 2007). And it built from the year-ago combination of Pushing Daisies, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money by double-digit percentages. As for the show itself, since when is Kellie Pickler a country superstar?
CBS finished second in both total viewers and adults 18-49 (tied in the demo with Fox) with its combination of The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: #3, 6.88 million; A18-49: #3, 2.0/ 6), Gary Unmarried (Viewers: #3, 6.71 million; A18-49: #3, 2.1/ 5), Criminal Minds (Viewers: #2, 14.80 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/10) and CSI: NY (Viewers: #2, 11.62 million; A18-49: #2, 3.0/ 8). Top rated? No. But the retention for Gary Unmarried out of Old Christine is flawless.
Fox finished third in total viewers and second among adults 18-49 (tied with ABC) care if its line-up of Bones (Viewers: #2, 10.86 million; A18-49: #2, 3.5/ 9), which generates interest in any time period, and a repeat of House (Viewers: #3, 6.22 million; A18-49: #3, 2.4/ 6). As a reminder, House moves to Monday at 8 p.m. (into 24) and Bones to Thursday at 8 p.m. (into Hell’s Kitchen) in January.
Struggling NBC remained out of the competitive loop with Knight Rider (Viewers: #4, 5.34 million; A18-49: #5, 1.5/ 4), which is in the process of being revamped, sophomore Life (Viewers: #4, 5.83 million; A18-49: #4, 1.8/ 5), which received a full season episode order despite the anemic ratings, and Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 7.91 million; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 6), which did manage to build out of Life by double-digitst. But, let’s be honest: Law & Order is not the ratings powerhouse it once was.
Last was the CW care of fading America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #5, 3.71 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 5) and the barely visible Stylista (Viewers: #5, 1.73 million; A18-49: #5, 0.9/ 2). Compared to one year earlier, Top Model was down by 1.63 million viewers (5.34 to 3.71 million) and 27 percent among adults 18-49 (2.6/ 7 to 1.9/ 5). With that much erosion, the target female audience has to also be down significantly as well.
