----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC scored a midweek victory, with the 42nd Annual CMA Awards at a hefty 15.87 million viewers and a 5.0 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m., finishing first in every half hour. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

The 42nd Annual CMA Awards
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 15.03 million, A18-49: 4.2/12
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 15.76 million, A18-49: 4.6/12
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 16.93 million, A18-49: 5.4/14
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 16.44 million, A18-49: 5.3/13
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 16.17 million, A18-49: 5.4/14
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 14.89 million, A18-49: 4.9/13

Comparably, this was right on par with it’s year-ago performance (Viewers: 15.95 million; A18-49: 5.4/14 on Nov. 7, 2007). And it built from the year-ago combination of Pushing Daisies, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money by double-digit percentages. As for the show itself, since when is Kellie Pickler a country superstar?

CBS finished second in both total viewers and adults 18-49 (tied in the demo with Fox) with its combination of The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: #3, 6.88 million; A18-49: #3, 2.0/ 6), Gary Unmarried (Viewers: #3, 6.71 million; A18-49: #3, 2.1/ 5), Criminal Minds (Viewers: #2, 14.80 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/10) and CSI: NY (Viewers: #2, 11.62 million; A18-49: #2, 3.0/ 8). Top rated? No. But the retention for Gary Unmarried out of Old Christine is flawless.

Fox finished third in total viewers and second among adults 18-49 (tied with ABC) care if its line-up of Bones (Viewers: #2, 10.86 million; A18-49: #2, 3.5/ 9), which generates interest in any time period, and a repeat of House (Viewers: #3, 6.22 million; A18-49: #3, 2.4/ 6). As a reminder, House moves to Monday at 8 p.m. (into 24) and Bones to Thursday at 8 p.m. (into Hell’s Kitchen) in January.

Struggling NBC remained out of the competitive loop with Knight Rider (Viewers: #4, 5.34 million; A18-49: #5, 1.5/ 4), which is in the process of being revamped, sophomore Life (Viewers: #4, 5.83 million; A18-49: #4, 1.8/ 5), which received a full season episode order despite the anemic ratings, and Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 7.91 million; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 6), which did manage to build out of Life by double-digitst. But, let’s be honest: Law & Order is not the ratings powerhouse it once was.

Last was the CW care of fading America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #5, 3.71 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 5) and the barely visible Stylista (Viewers: #5, 1.73 million; A18-49: #5, 0.9/ 2). Compared to one year earlier, Top Model was down by 1.63 million viewers (5.34 to 3.71 million) and 27 percent among adults 18-49 (2.6/ 7 to 1.9/ 5). With that much erosion, the target female audience has to also be down significantly as well.

Another move for House? It seemed to be doing well in the timeslot...why another change?

CSI:NY is clearly not the hit people think it is if Law and Order can suck that much juice out of it. CBS may find itself behind ABC this midseason on Wednesdays in the demo once Lost comes back. Gary and Christine are stable but they need a lead in if CBS wants them to survive. Sunday is just screaming for them.

Law and Order is down, but if NBC gave it any lead in at all (like Dateline) it would probably bump up about 1 million viewers and at least hit a 2.5 in the demo.

Bones remains the true unsung hero of the Fox lineup. It works anywhere.

Cdub needs to be concerned about Top Model's erosion and try to launch one last hit out of the show this spring before things really go south.

I think OC and GU went up a little this week.

I agree with what a lot of people have said here. OC and GU need to be moved to Sundays behind 60 Minutes. I think they would do very well after the older skewing 60 Minutes. It would be a perfect lead in. If they leave them here they will be down to about 5-6 million once AI comes.

Looking at this, CBS' Wednesday comedies are way too low in the demos and viewers. Look at the demo and viewer jump when CM comes on. Almost double. It was a good experiment but the comedies need to be moved for something that can pull in better numbers. CM would be even more impressive if it had a better lead in.

As for Bones, if it can keep its numbers, it is absolutely going to dominate Thursdays at 8 PM. 10.86 million and 3.5 in the demo is great for it. If I were ABC, I'd move UB out of the way. It's struggling right now and Bones will kill it.

I was hoping for better numbers for CM, such a great show

Stylista is doing horrible, CW should move 90210 there

Anyone that missed the season can watch an all day marathon this Sunday on MTV. Every episode of this season (except next week's finale) will air back to back from 9am to 8pm. Meanwhile, Travis pointed out in his blog that this is the 3rd week in a row that ANTM is preempted in Los Angeles. Combine that with the preemption of Smallville and Supernatural tonight in NYC and CW is really hurt by affiliates airing local sports over the network programming.

bad idea. ANTM's Cycle is over after next week. No point in moving 90210 there if ANTM is not airing firstrun eps as a lead-in. Also, come january, this nasty little 'Idol' show is going to be direct competition, so 90210 wouldn't even be escaping it with a move to the post-ANTM timeslot.

How exactly are they going to revamp KR? Make it NOT about a dopey-looking guy with a talking car? Roll Eyes

It has served its sole purpose in existence--to make PD look even more pathetic by comparison.

It can go now.

Those numbers wouldn't be dominating Survivor.

I'm talking about the second cycle. I don't think 90210 would do worse than it's doing now even against AI

Ugly Betty and Bones are not even close to the same type of program. I'm sure both shows can survive in that hour. The good news for Betty is that 5th Grader, one of the biggest shows for kiddies, won't be airing against it and sucking away all the youngsters this midseason. 5th Grader did more damage to Betty than any other program to have ever aired there against it.

What show is? Let's face facts here. It seems to me that every single show is down from it's last year's numbers. You can thank the writers's strike for that. People have apparently found other things to do with their time besides watching television. And with these shows being available on iTunes, hulu and the network's own site, there's no need to watch a show when it first airs. Add to that the growing use of DVRs and it's clear what is having to TV viewing this season. I imagine it's only going to get worse from here.

Country Music sure is popular isn't it.

Poor KNIGHT RIDER...revamping it won't help and in fact may alienate the few viewers that are left.

Regarding the cancellations of LIPSTICK and WORST ENEMY.

Well...WORST wasn't really a great idea to begin with and made JOURNEYMAN look like a hit and for JUNGLE...yeah...can KIM RAVER now return to 24 where she belongs as Jack's true love?!

Pushing Daisies would've beat Knight Rider head to head last night. I can pretty much guarantee you that. The two programs don't share a shred of the same viewers so to say Knight Rider made Daisies look bad is stupid. Pushing Daisies failed because its a show the general viewing public doesn't really get. A lot of them just find it weird or can't keep up with the dialogue (perhaps you're one of these people). Knight Rider on the other hand is perhaps one of the easiest plots to follow on TV: dumb guy with talking car. The fact that Knight Rider couldn't do any better than Daisies is the real story. By the way, while Daisies has kept its viewers this fall (something it was unable to do last year), Knight Rider continues to free fall. You're right. It (Knight Rider) can go now any day. Luckily for you, Pushing Daisies is gone too, but ABC isn't going to do any better than that on Wednesdays this midseason, especially if Scubs is put there.
Oh, I'm almost forgot: Wink
