-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS opened the week on a winning note, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. Second was Fox, followed by ABC, NBC and the CW.

CBS sitcoms The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #2, 11.81 million; A18-49: #1, 4.4/11) and How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #2, 11.85 million; A18-49: #1, 4.8/12) continue to score, with a series-high performance for The Big Bang Theory and a season-high for How I Met Your Mother. After four seasons, HIMYM is breaking out! Next was Two and a Half Men at a dominant 17.11 million viewers and a 5.6/13 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m., followed by the soon-to-depart Worst Week (Viewers: #2, 10.45 million; A18-49: #3, 3.3/ 8) and CSI: Miami (#1: 10.3/17) from 9:30-11 p.m. Don’t forget that former 9:30 p.m. occupant Rules of Engagement will be returning in March.

Fox’s expanded edition of 24 averaged a healthy 12.31 million viewers (#2) and a 4.1/10 among adults 18-49 (#2) from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that is certainly well below its heyday but still a noticeable improvement over recent occupants Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Prison Break. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

24 (Fox)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 11.97 million (#1), A18-49: 3.9/10 (#2)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 11.93 million (#1), A18-49: 3.9/ 9 (#2)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 12.49 million (#2), A18-49: 4.2/10 (#2)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 12.86 million (#1), A18-49: 4.3/10 (#1)

Next week, House moves into the Monday 8 p.m. hour followed by 24 at 9 p.m.

In the battle of the 8-10 p.m. reality blocks, ABC’s still relatively potent The Bachelor (Viewers: #3, 9.10 million; A18-49: #3, 3.3/ 8) beat NBC’s Superstars of Dance (Viewers: #4, 7.06 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 5), which looks like a half-baked version of the Olympics, by a hefty 2.04 million viewers and 74 percent among adults 18-49. Take a look at the half-hour breakdowns:

The Bachelor (ABC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 8.52 million (#3), A18-49: 2.8/ 7 (#3)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.84 million (#3), A18-49: 3.1/ 7 (#3)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.22 million (#3), A18-49: 3.3/ 8 (#3)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 9.84 million (#3), A18-49: 3.6/ 8 (#3)

Superstars of Dance (NBC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.03 million (#4), A18-49: 1.9/ 5 (#4)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.39 million (#4), A18-49: 1.9/ 5 (#4)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.83 million (#4), A18-49: 1.8/ 4 (#4)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.00 million (#4), A18-49: 1.9/ 4 (#4)

Compared to its week-ago time period debut (Viewers: 9.67; A18-49: 2.2/ 7 on Jan. 5), Superstars of Dance dipped by a significant 2.61 million viewers and 14 percent in the demo.

At 10 p.m., week two of ABC’s True Beauty (Viewers: #2, 6.51 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 7) beat NBC’s competing Momma’s Boys (Viewers: #3, 4.59 million; A18-49: #3, 1.7/ 4) by a hefty 1.92 million viewers and 65 percent among adults 18-49. But compared to its debut one week earlier (Viewers: 7.61 million; A18-49: 3.2/ 8 on Jan. 5), that was a decline of 1.10 million viewers and 12 percent in the demo. And retention out of the last half-hour of lead-in The Bachelor was just 66 percent in total viewers and 78 percent among adults 18-49. Momma’s Boys, meanwhile, is just filling up wasted airtime at this point.

Last was CW duo Gossip Girl (Viewers: 2.86 million; A18-49: 1.3/ 3) and the compatible One Tree Hill (Viewers: 3.13 million; A18-49: 1.5/ 3), which always generates interest among young females.

HIMYM was uproarious last night. And... a 4.8/12! This is what happens when you find a solid, compatible lead-in, and don't mess with scheduling so viewers can find a show and fall in love with it. Other networks take note!

Especially FOX for its egregious treatment of utility player Bones (which was finally starting to build its audience on Wednesdays... and is now having its Thursday premiere delayed and will air a new episode just about every other week for the next 2 months to make way for American Idol and other special preemptions). Clap. Clap. Clap.

GG - Secret Life of the American Teenager airing in the same timeslot is whomping the Upper East Siders.

True Beauty - I don't watch the show (nor do I watch The Bachelor) but I don't see this result as disappointing. How many other ABC 10pm shows maintain their audience at 10:30pm? Or grow it (in the demo TB had a 2.8/7 at 10pm and a 2.9/8 at 10:30pm). I believe the answer is... none?

What a great night for Comedy.
It is Time for not only CBS to expand to more hours and Nights, but for all nets to expand their comedy offerings.

If it funny, They will watch!

I may be the only one, but I am loving Momma's Boys especially JoJo. I think his mom is a character of her own, but not that different from my mom in her views. Ms. B just wants the best for her boy and there is nothing wrong with that.

However I think the recent firing of the great MS. Diedre Hall is unacceptable. I hope Mr. Ken Corday and Jeff Zucker wake up soon. As it seems viewers will be leaving left and right come Ms. Hall's last day. Then what good will it will have been to renew DAYS? I thought Mr. Corday learned this lesson before with Drake.

It's official. The 8:00 hour now has a higher average demo than the 9:00 hour for CBS. BBT/HIMYM averaged a 4.6 demo, while Men and that other show averaged a 4.4 rating.

BBT/HIMYM are the hottest duo on TV. Amazing even against 24 they came up winners. Next week the big test against House.

Could HIMYM take the Two and a Half Men spot in the future? It's demo isn't too far off and it skews incredibly young (especially for CBS).

I think we'll be seeing alot more single-camera comedies in development, because of the breakouts of these two comedies.

I hope you mean multi-cam comedies! HIMYM could eventually inherit the 9pm timeslot... but only once 2.5 Men is done, and that's likely a long way away (despite whatever financial goings on are going on between Warner Bros TV and CBS). For now... let's leave BBT and HIMYM where they are and hope the rest of the networks clue in that good, funny, traditional sitcoms can attract an audience!

"24" is listed in two different categories, is that because there were two different episodes?

I know there was not a new HOUSE or DWTS in the mix, but could we see CBS post a 5.0 average for the night, in the demo, once Rules... returns in Marc???

Its been a long while since we have seen a Net post a 5.0 average for a night with regular programming (non sports).

Great night for CBS. The entire night is doing well for CBS, only sour note is worse week but that will be gone soon.

24 did okay in the demo but I thought it would do better in viewers.

the rest was just bof....

Probably not because once ROE we will be getting close to Spring and daylight savings time. That is when the 8:00 shows will drop a lot, especially in the demos. The younger people will be out in that hour when the weather gets better.

Is the 3.3demo for Worst Week accurate? I know that show has a big dropoff, but really...maybe Marc meant 4.3?
