I can't speak for others, but when I have commented on how badly ABCs shows have dropped, I've been talking about how they've dropped in the last couple of months (e.g. DSM, SW?) or dramatic drops (e.g. MiT). While some of the procedurals are down year to year, they haven't lost nearly half their audience since last season (like MiT), since their premiere (like DSM), or in one week (SW?). Even if GA and DH are down from last year, they are still doing great in the ratings so it's no big deal. On the other hand, UB (which I liked last year) is getting a bit low.
I don't think ABC is going suddenly going to collapse, but I do think they are overly dependent on DWTS and a couple of well-performing shows that repeat poorly. Having only 5 or 6 scripted shows that can consistently draw 10 million viewers does not make for a strong network.
NBC and Fox are obviously both struggling right now. You're right, without AI Fox would be in a world of hurt. However, Fox is actually up this year from last in viewers and in the demo (something no other network can claim).
MyNetworkTV continues to be the only broadcast network showing dramatic year-over-year improvement in households (up 40%), viewership (up 66%) and demo (up 34%) during week 14.

I stand corrected. I amend my statement to "something none of the other 3 major networks can claim"
Thanks for the info - I just found that out on another site. "Chris" should be around through 2009 as the program has been sold in syndication.

Smart move, CW. (sarcasm button off)
Everybody Hates Chris filmed an entire season of 22 episodes, and they have 12 remaining.
When it faced-off against The Simpsons in the fall of 2006, EHC got beaten decisively and I expect the same this winter and spring.

This seems both incredibly arbitrary and incredibly harsh in the current climate, especially since Fox and NBC have two each (maybe 3 if L&O keeps it up).
How many shows above 10 million does a network need to be "strong"?
How many exceptions can you make when trying to call a network weak? 5 or 6 scripted shows AND Dancing is a pretty big chunk, and we haven't even touched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
What if I were to say "Having only 3 scripted shows that can consistently draw a 4.0 demo does not make for a strong network"?

Perhaps they could be scheduled for Sundays at 5pm. I'm sure it would do wonders in the tough easy view slot.

Originally posted by Devilz_0: ok so this board is completely anti abc, I have never been on a board where abc and their shows are so hated, I personally like the network and like some of their shows(even though they have some horrible shows like cavemen, I mean were they high when they greenlit that show), I think nobody can really say that abc relies on Dancing, if Dancing actually jumps the shark in terms of popularity and viewers, they still have GA, DH, Lost, PP and B&S, all are powerful performers, and we cant predict that dancing will flop anytime soon until we see some declines in viewership, and it keeps increasing year to year
if any network depends on a reality show, its fox dependancy on idol, that network would seriously be nowhere without it, and they had so much crap greenlit this year, I have seen all their pilots and you guys will see how bad they are(only exception is sara connor which has some potential), I mean idol has shown decline, and while its far from flopping, if idol does flop in the future, fox has nothing going on for them

5 hours out of 22.., Give me a break.
We haven't even mentioned Wife Swap, Supernanny, and Home Edition. Not to mention AFV and Boston Legal. ABC isn't collapsing samcat. Sorry. Perhaps you should take your campaign over to CW land and fight with the Supernatural gang. You may actually be able to argue that the CW is a dying network.
I know the Supernatural fans are a loyal bunch - being one of them, yes I am ticked to see my fav off the CW schedule. It's frustrating to get involved with a show and have it get very little respect from the source that is supposed to be promoting it. Very frustrating indeed. Hopefully, the CW will realize it's mistake (one of many I'm sure) and rectify it. But I'm pretty sure we'll just have to suffer through the "experiments" until all the dust settles. At least I'll be able to catch up on all the CSI episodes I missed.

MIT was moved to fridays(low HUT levels) after an unusually long hiatus where it has no lead in, I mean even when WAT moved to thurday after the biggest lead in on the network(csi) on a high HUT night, it was still down

so abc's shows arent good for the strike, does that make the network worthless? the strike will not last forever, and when it ends, abc will be a top performer, and they have a really good strike schedule

does it matter when you have only 2 shows above 10 million
For a show to claim it has 'over 10 million viewers, average', it has to average that for first run and repeats, IMO. So, you can scratch Lost, Private Practice, Brothers& Sisters, Ugly Betty, and Boston Legal (which shouldn't be listed even in first runs) from the list.

I don't think you have to include reruns, but I don't think Ugly Betty counts since it only rarely reaches 10 million. And since we've been talking about this season, Lost is out. Boston Legal has hit 10 million (just barely) over half the time, I think it should still count.
