I forgot that Reaper was returning in its old slot first. So, yeah, the eps airing after SV will probably be reruns. Which throws my whole, "The CW is being very logical about this," argument out the window. Now, I'm very confused.

And I thought SPN only had 3 more new eps. But, if they do actually have 4, I'll be thrilled.

Trying to figure out why the CW makes the choices it does is like trying to figure out why the captain of the Titanic kept steering all the way to the bottom of the ocean.

No problem. I think Supernatural is fine. CW is just trying to push Reaper. Aliens in America is hopeless so they are trying to push another freshman series.

And what exactly would CW replace Supernatural with? Crowned 2? CW may hate Supernatural, but I doubt they would cancel it.

I have a question: who writes Leno's monologues now? I doubt he writes all the jokes, he must have some help. I suppose some are written by WGA writers, anonymously of course.

CW Plans Midseason Makeover

This schedule makes a few good moves and a few puzzlers as The CW positions itself for the February Sweep.

I think Ms. Ostroff feels MyNetworkTV breathing down her neck, what with MNT having beaten her line-up in recent weeks on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, MNT's weekend line-up on low-HUT Saturday night has also been out-rating The CW's line-up on high-HUT Sundays.

While it's still not quite like the old days of WB vs. UPN (and sometimes PAX too), there are now a few interesting tussles for fifth place that will occur over the course of the upcoming February Sweep:

Monday: Gossip-Pussycat vs. Celebrity Expose-Paradise Hotel. The interesting face-off will be Pussycat Dolls vs. Paradise Hotel 2. Even though Pussycat Dolls was strong in the spring, I think MyNetworkTV will win decisively. I'm calling for MyNetworkTV to topple CW, 1.2 vs. 0.7 in A18-49 (February Sweep)

Tuesday: MNT's Crimetime in Primetime (Street Patrol and Jail) vs. The CW's Reaper/Geek and One Tree Hill. I see this one as shaping up into a close race, with The CW having a small advantage. CW over MNT: 1.1 vs. 0.9 in A18-49 (February Sweep)

Wednesday: CW's ANTM / Pussycat encore vs. MNT's Whacked Out Videos / MyNetworkSpecials. CW will trounce MNT, but I think they're wasting a Pussycat encore after the hefty lead-out from Next Top Model. I would put The Game and Aliens in America after ANTM, and help them to build up their numbers. CW over MNT: 1.7 vs. 0.7 in A18-49 (February Sweep)

Thursdays: Smallville / Supernatureal-Reaper vs. MyNetworkMovie: When SV and SN are original, they win. When not, MNT does well. The night stays CW's until originals run out CW over MNT: 1.2 vs. 0.7 (February Sweep)

Fridays: CW's Smackdown vs. MyNetworkMovie: Even when MNT programs a strong theatrical or special, it still can't overcome Smackdown. The CW's strongest night vs. MNT: 1.3 vs. 0.5 (February Sweep)

Saturdays/Sundays: MNT's NFL Access-Paradise encore vs. CW's Now & Comedy block. After programming the Monday comedies in Sunday afternoons Easyview for the last 16 months, The CW must think that the comedies will do better on Sundays this time around then they did in the fall of 2006. However, I do think they will do marginally better than the current line-up, and that's why they've been sent back to Sundays. MNT has been doing better and better on Saturday nights as the NFL show picks up viewers, and the Paradise encore should do better than Control Room Presents did. The weekend face-off will be close, but I see a slight advantage to The CW: 0.6 vs. 0.5 for MNT. (February Sweep)

Overall February Sweep Prediction:

The CW: 1.1 vs. 1.3 last year (down 15%)
MNT: 0.8 vs. 0.3 last year (up 166%)

Mr. Meidel has hinted of late that MyNetworkTV will have at least one comedy and one drama in their upcoming Upfront, and if these returns to scripted do good, they will bring MNT closer to The CW in the fall.

The question would be if the scripted stuff was already in production before the strike happened. If not, then MNTV will have to resort to unscripted stuff or pull off stuff from FOX. Either way, within two years, MNTV will pull ahead of CW. MNTV is improving while CW is spiraling downward at a rapid rate.

Uh oh. I sense an angry Supernatural fan contingent.

An interesting blog, travisyanan...I hope you keep contributing here too! I like your insights on shows, and you always post so many industry scoops ahead of the other tv journalists and bloggers. And those final ratings for network and cabler shows are always appreciated when you have the time to post them.

I hope you get your series deal some day so you can finally put the fictional TravisYanan through all those terrible things.

So, The CW is putting "Everybody Hates Chris" (which I think is out of fresh episodes) up against "The Simpsons", which still has almost a full season's worth of new episodes left?

Smart move, CW. (sarcasm button off)

Everybody Hates Chris filmed an entire season of 22 episodes, and they have 12 remaining.

When it faced-off against The Simpsons in the fall of 2006, EHC got beaten decisively and I expect the same this winter and spring.

All of this is too late for the CW. This schedule has me doubling my viewing pleasure from "Smallville" to "Smallville" and "One Tree Hill." I think the latter will get smashed up against its competition.

ok so this board is completely anti abc, I have never been on a board where abc and their shows are so hated, I personally like the network and like some of their shows(even though they have some horrible shows like cavemen, I mean were they high when they greenlit that show), I think nobody can really say that abc relies on Dancing, if Dancing actually jumps the shark in terms of popularity and viewers, they still have GA, DH, Lost, PP and B&S, all are powerful performers, and we cant predict that dancing will flop anytime soon until we see some declines in viewership, and it keeps increasing year to year

if any network depends on a reality show, its fox dependancy on idol, that network would seriously be nowhere without it, and they had so much crap greenlit this year, I have seen all their pilots and you guys will see how bad they are(only exception is sara connor which has some potential), I mean idol has shown decline, and while its far from flopping, if idol does flop in the future, fox has nothing going on for them

people also keep saying how almost abc serials are down, but almost all cbs procedurals are also down, even csi is down year to year

If you are going to mention MNTV and PAX how is it that you conveniently forget Univision: the real 5th place network?

Don't forget that all of MNTV's 'gains' are the result of moving AWAY from scripted programing (and mostly away from any of their own product). I think you are delusional to suggest that MNTV is going to triple their ratings over this season and spring into equal footing with CW next year.

I can't speak for others, but when I have commented on how badly ABCs shows have dropped, I've been talking about how they've dropped in the last couple of months (e.g. DSM, SW?) or dramatic drops (e.g. MiT). While some of the procedurals are down year to year, they haven't lost nearly half their audience since last season (like MiT), since their premiere (like DSM), or in one week (SW?). Even if GA and DH are down from last year, they are still doing great in the ratings so it's no big deal. On the other hand, UB (which I liked last year) is getting a bit low.

I don't think ABC is going suddenly going to collapse, but I do think they are overly dependent on DWTS and a couple of well-performing shows that repeat poorly. Having only 5 or 6 scripted shows that can consistently draw 10 million viewers does not make for a strong network.

NBC and Fox are obviously both struggling right now. You're right, without AI Fox would be in a world of hurt. However, Fox is actually up this year from last in viewers and in the demo (something no other network can claim).
