Well, that's two different issues.
Reality shows doing well right now (at least to start) does seem to give the networks less reason to get the strike over faster. But will all of these shows continue to do this well, or will some of them fade?
As for the reality shows doing well right now meaning the death of scripted television for all time, I think you could only say that if any of the big networks could survive with nothing but reality shows on their schedule, which I just don't see.
The networks might be able to say they can survive just fine for the next few months, or (maybe) even the rest of the season on reality shows, which could be a nice little bargaining tool for them during strike negotiations. But I don't think any of them truly believe they can now say good-bye to scripted programming permanently.

Well unfortunately (i still think this genre is the worst thing on TV) reality shows are successfull in France also, so i doubt they would say that
I am still amazed how well CSI does in viewers each time it has a repeat episode. 13.71 million? Most shows cant even get that for a new episode.
Kudos to CSI!

Actually, I would never underestimate the ability of the French to "poo-poo those stupeed Americans" for watching reality television, while at the same time they are also watching reality TV.
Something I'm surprised Marc didn't say, so I'll mention, this shows NBC Thursdays are capable of A LOT more & the comedies are clearly the wrong thing.

Mais nous sommes les inventeurs de la réalité, xwiseguyx!
The irony of it all is that most successful American reality television are unscripted moment-for-moment concept copies of successful European or Asian reality television programs. In Europe, reality tv of one guise or another (masquerading sometimes as documentary news or gameshows) has been a mainstay of programming since television began because it was inexpensive to produce, whimsical in nature and it appealed to the masses.
Back in the late eighties or early nineties, I met with a local unit hired by a Japanese reality series that featured Sumo wrestlers who travelled Japan and the world doing silly strength and agility stunts...they were in town because their Sumo wrestler was off to the local animal sanctuary to wrestle with a grizzly bear, who easily out-matched Sumo wrestler lost in three consecutive few-second matches. Appararently, this program, and I cannot recall its title, was big in Japan, and it is one of the few around that seems to have not been concept-copied by Hollywood producers with periscopes aimed abroad.
