I think its amazing that CBS and ABC wasted new episodes of their signature shows on Thanksgiving night in the midst of this writer's strike. Both networks have deep inventories of holiday movies and specials that could have been tapped into for the night. Now they're both down a new episode. I do agree that Thanksgiving USED to be a highly rated night-think Friends in the early 90's when more than 30 million watched the Brad Pitt episode on Thanksgiving Night. By the way, I believe that if the strike is prolonged the big networks will bring back their old movie nights. First up would be the CBS SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE.

Okay. You set the bar. Of course, when PD limbos underneath it, you'll just want to set it lower.
Although I'm not Devilz_0, I'd agree this is a reasonable bar to set for first-runs of PD. Slipping below a 3.0 in the demo would put the show in questionable territory at best.

folks...anyone can see that any major holiday alters the publics viewing of television...its a no brainer.
alot of ppl are saying that cbs/abc were stupid for showing new shows...i agree but these are the top 2 dogs this november...if abc was in repeats cbs could have snuck in and taken the demos (as cbs shows would have been even bigger) likewise if cbs was in repeats and greys was new than abc would be unstoppable this close to the end of november sweeps. so they both ran new episodes but the results were poor.
but imo abc will easily win the demo crown...why?? dwts. it is abc's biggest show in ratings and demos....yes demos...its on more than 2.5 hours a week....ratings/viewers are now stronger than anything else on tv...its demos combined outdraw any show...and it occupies alot of wasted space on abc...
without this "older skewing show" abc would be in a battle with fox and nbc for 3rd....but this show is like a mini-idol...it alters the landscape of the night.
i do agree with the gentleman who said that abc will nosedive after dwts leaves...abc unfortunately repeats horrible...its biggest shows are huge flops in repeats...if it was just 2-3 shows than abc could plug them...but its more like 7-8 shows and whatever flop replaces dwts 2.5 hours....it wont be pretty....
last year cbs' demos actually held up well in december...why? b/c they do repeat well...
if the strike is long then the biggest victim will be abc as it will fall the most....although nbc will still lose...fox with its 15 hour week will easily win with cbs at a 2nd yet unspectacular finish...

"Survival point" against what? You really think PD will get canceled if you keep suggesting it?

And I guess for someone of your capacities, that would count as an essay.
I was refering, of course, to your cumulative and obsessive writing against one of the most successul new shows of the season. Although "book" might be more appropriate at this point.

Traditionally, airing new eps on Thanksgiving night isn't a big of a ratings killer as most think. But I agree with most -- I can't believe the networks wasted a new episode on the holiday... and for such mediocre numbers no less, particularly on ABC. Then again, they could probably reair Thursday's Grey's and a good chunk of its regular viewing audience will not have seen it...

If you're referring to the Thanksgiving episodes of Friends, then yes, those typically were higher. But if you were saying Friends pulled in high those high numbers on Thanksgiving, not true.

I'm not suggesting anything. I'm just pointing out the reality of an expensively-produced show that fewer and fewer people watch, even though it's up against creampuff competition. You keep INFERRING my suggestion--which I guess isn't very hard to to. I think ABC will do its inferring from the ratings.

Might as well include Marc in that campaign, since he reports the ratings every week, and you'll note he hasn't been putting PD in the winner's column for a while now.

Once again, if the PD fans weren't so terrified their show would get canceled that they need to lash out at someone, I'd post about the show maybe twice a week. I'm just responding to YOUR obsession. The show is boring, but its fans are FASCINATING. In a psychological trainwreck kinda way.

What you are predicting again and again is that PD will get canceled. So, you are on the record.
