the rating were down for thanksgiving so thats why everything was low. but i agree that OR will only average 5-6 on mondays. poor ABC

Assuming the strike is over in January, here are my projections for ABC in the 1st qtr.

I think that OR will pull between 7-8 million on Mondays. I think people were really confused that last night was an original episode. ABC advertised that Mon. Nov. 26th was the season premire and that last night was a sneak preview. To me even though I knew it was a episode from checking different place to know for sure was confused by the commerical. If I didn't check the boards I might have not tuned in because just from watching the commericals got the idea that it was a recap show. Even people on OR boards and other boards with topics relating to OR still questioned if it was really a new episode or not up until last nights show. ABC really planned this out poorly and I hope it doesn't effect the ratings prementaly.
UB took a much larger drop week-to-week than did Daisies (Daisies 3.1 -> 2.25 vs. UB's 3.5 -> 2.15), and considering how steady UB has been this season, that seems to indicate there's a major holiday effect that was the cause for most if not all of the PD drop.
Certainly not the drop from 8-9, which was not the case with most other shows on that night. And since PD has dropped almost every week it's been on (and even its rise last week didn't get it anywhere near where it was a few weeks before that), the holidays really don't explain its problems. Bored unenthusiastic viewers do.

As for the competition thing, I'm certain that their total network competition has never been closer than it was this week. UB's has always been much stronger, but the gap was a lot smaller this week. Just added it up: 7.8 for Betty vs. 6.85 for PD. Last week: 13.1 for Betty, 9.6 for PD.
UB was up against Survivor. Let's get real here.
quote:
When I said what you quoted, I wasn't commenting on which is the stronger show overall - I agree that Betty has been.
And I agree Betty has major problems this season, but I guess I don't really care.
quote:
What I meant was that if you're going to say this was an alarming week for PD, you've got to say it was far more alarming for UB.
I don't quite agree, because PD is in a much more delicate position--UB is an established hit in its second season, currently having problems--networks are much more likely to give a show that has delivered high ratings against tough competition a chance to recover. PD has delivered poor ratings for most of its run to date, and against shows that really shouldn't be any competition for its audience.
And again, UB's rating went up as the broadcast continued. PD's half-hour to half-hour drop can't be blamed on the holiday. It's held steady in the past--people are starting to lose patience with this overhyped quirk-fest. There's no there there.
quote:
A much larger drop against much-closer-to-even competition. Personally, I don't think either one is particularly alarming. This week is just an anomaly. Yeah, yeah, the Daisies people say that every week, but if it's just an excuse, what happened to Betty?
It's been almost as bad as PD lately--that's what happened.
Funny how pisher can produce an essay when PD ratings decrease a bit at the 1/2-hour on Thanksgiving (and in a Thursday thread no less), yet couldn't write a single comment last week about the +0.5 rating in the demo.

Last week was because the last airing was Halloween. Less HUTs. Same with next week, PD will go up. The question I believe pisher is posing is "will it go up to match what it was doing before the holiday airing" and his answer is a vehement "no", and he's point to the fact that, while most shows increase at 8:30pm because of higher HUTs (even on a lower HUT night like the day before Thanksgiving), PD actually dropped viewers at the half-hour, which translates as "active tune-out" as opposed to "passive tune-in". If people are watching the show, then stopping watching in the middle of an episode... do you really think they'll be back for the next one if they didn't care enough to finish the current one?

Was this "Brent" guy who posted here earlier a troll? Thanks for deleting this guy, Marc. There's been a bunch of these guys invading TV blogs as of late, notably James Hibberd's (on a story about blogging and the Writer's strike) where I was attacked for having a TV/radio blog by some political hacks. These guys are the ones who have no life.
We don't need trollish, mean spirited posters like that here. After all, it's just TV! Keep doing what you do Marc, because you do it well!

And Marc especially, what do you predict?
ABC should pair Grey's Anatomy with Desperate Housewives again. That was a pretty big hit back in 2005.

How about that it was actually one of the lowest demo ratings PD has had so far, and just barely at the survival point--against no competition worth talking about?
And I guess for someone of your capacities, that would count as an essay.

There is nothing wrong with his capacities, only with yours
PD won its timeslot everytime its on, and it always got above 3.0 on a non holiday wednesday
so Pd lost aroung 500k, so did csi this week, does that mean those viewers are not going to watch csi anymore? of course they will, next week csi will get 18 million, while PD will get 8-9 million and 3.0 in demo, then we will see whats your excuse then, probably you will use the stale excuse that pd doesnt have any tough competition
Hold onto your hats..ABC is about to go into an unprecedented nosedive.
---the loss of Dancing on Monday and Tuesday for several months..replaced by the questionable Monday lineup of SW, Underbelly and OR; and CMafia on Tuesday.
---The continued erosion of Wednesday -- particularly at 8 and 10 ---The emergence of CBS on Wednesday and Friday ---American Idol returning with a vengeance Tuesday and Wednesday ---with the exception of LOST (only 8 episodes because of strike .. if they even air) very little bench strength fo ABC to counteract the above.
As I said, real problems for ABC and Mr. McPherson. They're looking at 3rd place in the demo for sure.
Does anyone agree with me?
not really, you seem to hate abc for some reason, I mean so far this season, abc has been doing that best:
Mondays will be fine, they have dance wars, which I think will do very well, SW will do well out DW, I think NFTU will also do well, and OR will probably get 8-9 million which isnt very bad
Wednesday will be fine, abc has won 6/8 wednesdays, so I dont know why you say it doing badly
AI will not only affect abc, it will also affect cbs, and if the strike is resolved by monday, and the return of DWTS very soon, they will rule sundays and monday as usual, they will also rule wednesdays in the demo, and place a second on tuesdays behind fox, and if they can find a good 10 pm show for thursdays that has good retention out of GA (cashmere mafia anyone?), they will also rule thursdays, if not then place a second behind cbs
PD won its timeslot everytime its on, and it always got above 3.0 on a non holiday wednesday
So you're saying if it ever didn't win its timeslot, or got below 3.0 on a non holiday Wednesday, I'd be justified in saying PD was doing badly?
Okay. You set the bar. Of course, when PD limbos underneath it, you'll just want to set it lower. We all understand that. You've already done it several times.

Dance War will be a major flop and if OR gest 8-0 million ABC will throw a huge party. The realistic number is 6 million at best
