Good numbers, despite dropping in the 2nd half-hour (something that rarely happens, considering it leads into CSI). I guess some people initially didn't realize it was a clips show and they eventually decided to tune out.
I believe the ads I saw were promoting it as a "special Survivor: China," so I think this may have legitimately happened; it wouldn't be hard to think it was an all-new ep. And as you said, half-hour dropoff for Survivor is fishy. But credit CBS. If you're going to deceptively promote a show, at least do it in a way that gets MORE people watching... as opposed to ABC's OR "sneak preview" strategy advertising the "season premiere" for Monday, which probably got at least a few people thinking Thursday was some kind of clip show.

Grey's did a lot better than I was expecting... based on the Wed. numbers, I thought CSI would slaughter it in viewers and likely eke out the demo. I'm pretty shocked that viewers were that close.
As bad as the OR numbers look, it's still around 45% retention in demo. Which, sadly, is not bad as Grey's lead-outs go, though it is out of a diminished Grey's. Half-hour drop is humongous, obviously. I don't know how much better you can expect with a Thanksgiving season premiere of a show that had only six weeks late last season and was never rerun, especially when it's dubiously promoted as a "sneak preview." OR just hasn't had time to become the kind of show people will give up Thanksgiving for.
Will be interesting to see what happens with SW, Notes, and OR on Monday. That night could really be a bomb.
Hold onto your hats..ABC is about to go into an unprecedented nosedive.
---the loss of Dancing on Monday and Tuesday for several months..replaced by the questionable Monday lineup of SW, Underbelly and OR; and CMafia on Tuesday.
---The continued erosion of Wednesday -- particularly at 8 and 10 ---The emergence of CBS on Wednesday and Friday ---American Idol returning with a vengeance Tuesday and Wednesday ---with the exception of LOST (only 8 episodes because of strike .. if they even air) very little bench strength fo ABC to counteract the above.
As I said, real problems for ABC and Mr. McPherson. They're looking at 3rd place in the demo for sure.
I'm very concerned about Samantha Who? now. It's going to be on an island by itself for the next 6 weeks(although the holiday specials at 8 should be decent). I don't see NFTU doing much and OR is well, last night's numbers say it all.
and just a note, Cashmere Mafia has been indefinitely delayed due to the strike.
Marc Berman demonstrates his affection for television by keeping this site humming with information 365 days of the year.
From his numerous postings and Programming Insider columns, I know he is also a very devoted family man.
Shame on you for bringing personal attacks such as this into the forum.

I bet you don't even watch half of the shows you say bad things about. First of all, the insult to October Road was uncalled for. I like October road and nobody cares about your opinions. You know people spend time with their families on Thanksgiving and they barely watch TV. You always think TV is everything. Did you spend time with your family on Thanksgiving?
Seems some people here think that Thanksgiving has NO effect on television at all. People, it was THANKSGIVING! People were not home, they were with FAMILY! What aboutt that is so hard for people to understand? I mean, why are people actually taking this ratings as accurate measures of how something is doing? When all the shows are down, it means that LESS PEOPLE WERE HOME! This is why Wednesday night and Thursday night ratings were so bad. Geez!

Now this is someone who knows what was going on!! IT WAS THANKSGIVING DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT...
As a CSI fan i must say last night's episode was horrible, among the worst. Even i've changed the channel and watched GA. I'm actually surprised only 600k left CSI after the half hour.
I don't have a life? Say goodbye...I am eliminating you from this forum. I do not have to justify my commitment to this group to you. And WE do not want someone like you here.

And TV-aholic you don't even live in the US so mind your business.
It is sweeps, but especially in a year when the networks have a limited supply of originals, it makes very little sense to run originals the week of Thanksgiving.

Hey Brent trust me, it's better you go to sleep and cool down.

ABC was forced to air new episodes beacause CBS was going to do just that.

I agree with you. It was too offbeat and somewhat difficult to follow.
