I miss the yearly airing of the original Home Alone on NBC. They had a nice tradition going there for a few years, but just gave up on it.

In the battle of the movie nights, the broadcast premiere of The Incredibles got a pretty decent demo number and bested the broadcast premiere of Dodgeball, however, The CW's first movie night with the broadcast premiere of Raise Your Voice did poorly.
Yes, indeed, for October Road got its worst ratings ever, and that 10:30 pm dropoff to 1.9 A18-49 was the most alarming (caused a little bit no doubt by the two-minute Greys runover).
I was puzzled last night that October Road just picked up where the story left off in the spring, and didn't do any sort of extensive clips to bring new viewers up to speed with the characters and the story so far. They did the same sort of cold start last year for What About Brian, and I think it really makes it hard for a new viewer to get in the swing of things.
I thought last nights October Road episode was pretty good. And it even looked like it was filmed in October with all those lush colourful shots of autumn in the backgrounds.
If I were Mr. McPherson, I would have ordered up clip-shows for the three Thursday series like Survivor did last night. They probably would have gotten roughly the same numbers, and a clip-show for October Road would have helped in the re-launch of the series this coming Monday.
Betty's numbers should make the Pushing Daisies fanatics feel a little better about Wednesday's tumble.
Grey's did a lot better than I was expecting... based on the Wed. numbers, I thought CSI would slaughter it in viewers and likely eke out the demo. I'm pretty shocked that viewers were that close.
As bad as the OR numbers look, it's still around 45% retention in demo. Which, sadly, is not bad as Grey's lead-outs go, though it is out of a diminished Grey's. Half-hour drop is humongous, obviously. I don't know how much better you can expect with a Thanksgiving season premiere of a show that had only six weeks late last season and was never rerun, especially when it's dubiously promoted as a "sneak preview." OR just hasn't had time to become the kind of show people will give up Thanksgiving for.
Will be interesting to see what happens with SW, Notes, and OR on Monday. That night could really be a bomb.

It is as though they have these eps set for this week and next (in the case of some of the Wednesday shows) and perhaps through their Christmas eps and writers strike be damned, that's when they are showing them.
I haven't seen any of yesterday's shows (or ABC's shows on Wednesday). Do they make references to Thanksgiving that could be "embarrassing" if they aired next week? I just don't get it.

Isn't the first 2 or 3 episodes (of this season) held over from last years ordered/produced episodes?

Why not an original made for TV Home Alone type of movie? That could bring good numbers. I don't understand why the networks have pretty much gave up on producing made for TV movies.
Grey's Anatomy drop from last year's Thanksgiving episode is huge. OR's return is indeed troubling... last year, ABC's Primetime Live special did a bit better (though retention for OR is better). OR retention out of Grey's (at least in fast nationals) a bit better than WMC and BS from earlier this season, but the drop-off at 10:30 is just the same story... no one sticks with ABC on Thursdays at 10pm. Interesting to see how BS does next week with a GA repeat lead-in. I doubt a GA repeat will do close to what it was doing last year.
Kudos to NBC and FOX for airing movies.

No they've aired all 6 episodes produced last season

Nope. They ordered six last year and were only going to air four, but then when it did better than expected they pulled Notes from the Underbelly and aired the last two. So these were all produced this season.
Ok, Marc, its time someone said this to you. You need to STOP EXPRESSING YOUR OPINIONS ABOUT SHOWS PEOPLE FAVOR. I bet you don't even watch half of the shows you say bad things about. First of all, the insult to October Road was uncalled for. I like October road and nobody cares about your opinions. You know people spend time with their families on Thanksgiving and they barely watch TV. You always think TV is everything. Did you spend time with your family on Thanksgiving?
