Or maybe Bones? That show's ratings are up, but it seems like it is just waiting to be shot into the ratings atmosphere. What do you think?
I am liking the idea of Bones post-Super Bowl. It may be benefiting from the Idol halo effect, but in the fall is was performing decently enough on its own. The show is much more critically accepted than Criminal Minds, even if it's probably a similar gore level. And there's no denying that it's good entertainment, what with David and Emily's great chemistry and banter.
I'm still calling VM for renewal. I know it seems nuts, but everything else on the network sucks too. They clearly don't want to keep 7th Heaven. I'm sure Hidden Palms will tank. Ostroff adores VM.
Ostroff has just as much reason to adore Hidden Palms--more, really--if that tanks, Ostroff herself may be canceled.

Although, the fact that this week's 2.62 million almost seems like a victory is proof of how very, very low the expectations for the show are.
And really--isn't it a show ABOUT low expectations? No, wait--that's My Name is Earl.

The only way I see cancellation is if GG is renewed. Until we get word on that, I think it's too early to write VM off.
I think it's even earlier to write GG off--CW will be more more loathe to give that brandname up.

They don't want angry VM fans yelling at them the same way the fans to all the other shows that canceled in the merger did.
No matter what they cancel, the fans are going to be yelling at them. I don't think the fear of angry yelling fans will decide which shows stay and which go - or at least it shouldn't.
I agree. But Ms. Ostroff will try and use VM's fanbase to keep it around. Trust me, this woman does not about VM's inability to do well, she will use every excuse possible to keep it around just because she likes it. Which is precisely why she will either be fired, or will be threatened to get fired and maybe she will come to her senses.

Also even though I hate House I think it is much better then Grey's Anatomy, which I really hate and I am glad House is beating it for the Spring.
You were assaulted by a doctor as a child, weren't you
We'll see how the Grey's/House battle plays out. House rose a lot this week versus last... but it's only 0.2 ahead of last week's Grey's in A18-49. Grey's is in the middle of a 3-part event, so ratings will likely be swelling as sweeps continues.
Regarding House: Since FOX will broadcast the Super Bowl next year...isn't House a likely candidate for the post-Super Bowl-slot? It could definitely increase the show's ratings into the range of 25 million viewers without AI support.
I don't think House needs a post-Superbowl slot. Shouldn't that spot go to a new show or relatively new show that has lower ratings than House. House is a hit without the Idol. lead-in.
That is for shure. But at this point I couldn't imagine any other show getting the slot (except maybe Bones). 24 is too old and will most likely end its run next year, Prison Break will also end in 2008 and the rest of FOX's shows (keeping aside Sundays) is a mess. From my point of view it is much better to grow a hit into a mega-hit instead of wasting such a coveted slot on a crappy new show.

As long as the episode (either House or Bones) starts with near-naked ladies (ala Alias and Grey's), they'll be good.

I was disappointed by last weeks episode and will probably watch this weeks episode online and not live. After Meredith's confrontation with her mother, I hoped that it was a turning point for her. But beginning of the episode, she is her whiny, mopey self. She fell in the water and I didn't care.
Ostroff has just as much reason to adore Hidden Palms--more, really--if that tanks, Ostroff herself may be canceled.
Nah. I think at this point, Hidden Palms is completely filmed and CW is saving it for summer burn off. They know it's a flop. Otherwise they'd have done what they implied they were going to do, and taken OTH off the air when Model came back, aired HP, then brought OTH back for its last few episodes in May sweeps. OTH's order was only 21, not 22, so after February it will only have 5 original episodes left to air.
I don't think Moonvest (hee!) is judging Dawn based on last year's abrieviated development slate. He will, though, on her ability to launch a new hit show next season after having a full year to set development goals and attempt to achieve them. Her job is safe until at least November.
I do think VM will be renewed, but I think the argument that they'll do it to subdue the fans is ridiculous. What, placate the fans who refuse to watch anything else on their network anyway? The type of VM fan who's going to boycott the CW over cancellation is the type who's already rooting for everything else on the network to fail.
In the end, kind of a moot point though. Because for some reason, they still think of VM as their "prestige" show, and I think if it keeps hovering in the 2.5-3 million range, they'll find excuses to keep it. Excuses including the female demos, the "critical acclaim", wanting to give Rob Thomas a chance to "end the show the right way", etc.

That is what I was thinking all the time. A Super Bowl-strengthened House (with let's say 20 - 25 million viewers) on Thursdays @ 8/7c coul lead into Bones @ 9/8c.
Dawn will not make it to upfronts she will be replaced by mid march!!!

You see she seems to perfer he personal desire over the network's interest. And as long as the very small yet vocal fanbase of veronica mars bugs them about it she just might get what she wants. Anyway Marc, you said you know Dawn, I am not sure what that means and how often you speak with her but based on whatever time you have spent with her do you think she will try and keep it?
Classic xwiseguyx! I come here daily for my comedy relief, not the CW. Although Everybody Hates Chris is not a bad way to spend 30 minutes.

I see... we have about another 3 months to hear endless speculation regarding VM's fate despite the obvious. Then we have another year or so to hear from the Marsies how stupid it was for VM to be canceled. After that we will just see the occasional irate note regarding how poor a decision it was - and some will blame Marc because he didn't support the show. Marc will be shunned by the Marsies for 2 years. They will temporarily forget their hatred upon prospect of a Veronica Mars movie. Unfortunately, there were no backers with any money and the project will be shelved and then Marc will be blamed once again for not mortgaging his home to invest.

Yes, that 3 part event is what scares me. Yes, The Demo is what matters in money making. But it's only when you are the most-watched that you can use the promotion phrase "the most watched show on television". In fact I am begining to like House more and more as Hugh Laurie's arrogance about his acting seems to no longer be as central as it used to. That's exactly why I don't like Shark anymore, I got tired of James Woods being so arrogant.
