I'm still calling VM for renewal. I know it seems nuts, but everything else on the network sucks too. They clearly don't want to keep 7th Heaven. I'm sure Hidden Palms will tank. Ostroff adores VM.
Although, the fact that this week's 2.62 million almost seems like a victory is proof of how very, very low the expectations for the show are.
The only way I see cancellation is if GG is renewed. Until we get word on that, I think it's too early to write VM off.
Anybody catch Robyn Troup, who duetted with Justin Timberlake on the Grammys, getting thrown off Idol last night?
I didn't watch the Grammys so I didn't know she sang with Justin. It's pretty funny that she is good enough to sing on the Grammys, but not good enough to be on Idol. I wonder if they regret throwing her off now?
I was surprised she got kicked off. I was also surprised that Baylie the country girl got kicked off as well! It was a slaughter on Idol. I cannot wait to see who makes the Top 24 tonight!

House 25 Million, what hte hell... But that`s great for House and for me.
Well, germanboy, do not forget that VM was broadcasted by one of Germany's oldest skewing channels (ZDF) and the timeslot it was in (Saturdays @ 2 pm)...let's just not talk about it.
Regarding House: Since FOX will broadcast the Super Bowl next year...isn't House a likely candidate for the post-Super Bowl-slot? It could definitely increase the show's ratings into the range of 25 million viewers without AI support.
Originally posted by mrpotato531: No. The show is a complete ratings failure and it has had more than ample time to find itself, which it has not done. All summer they kept saying Gilmore Girls would be the best possible lead-in the show could ever have, and that did not work.
VM is over. A show with this much critical acclaim should not be scoring original ratings in the mid 2 million range.

For Season 1 it was it needed a chance so give it another year, when season 2 failed it was we will try it with Gilmore Girls and it will be great, and now it's season 3, and it has Gilmore Girls, I am sure Ms.Ostroff will think of something to keep it around. You see she seems to perfer he personal desire over the network's interest. And as long as the very small yet vocal fanbase of veronica mars bugs them about it she just might get what she wants. Anyway Marc, you said you know Dawn, I am not sure what that means and how often you speak with her but based on whatever time you have spent with her do you think she will try and keep it?
Mrpotato, you are talking to me like if I am one of those pathetic VM fans who thinks the show deserves another shot. Please don't do that. I am simply point out that based off of what I have seen Ms. Ostroff, and the CW for that matter, doesn't care about ratings. They care about their image more. They don't want angry VM fans yelling at them the same way the fans to all the other shows that canceled in the merger did. I think Veronica Mars should be canceled as of 3 months ago, but something tells me that if this is Gilmore Girls last season that the Network will use the excuse that they can't completely reprogram Tuesday night and they will, especially Dawn, try and keep Veronica Mars there. And that is the CW's problem. They do too much trying to keep the fanbase of loser shows happy rather than doing what is the best way to make a profit.

I don't think House needs a post-Superbowl slot. Shouldn't that spot go to a new show or relatively new show that has lower ratings than House. House is a hit without the Idol. lead-in.
Anyone, like Baylie, who isn't smart enough to learn the lyrics of her audition song, doesn't deserve to be there.

No matter what they cancel, the fans are going to be yelling at them. I don't think the fear of angry yelling fans will decide which shows stay and which go - or at least it shouldn't.
I agree, Gee. However, the way they built her up in previous shows, I thought for sure she would be safe. It was one of the quickest crash and burns scenarios I have seen before on Idol.

What else are they going to do? They've done the Simpsons twice. Family Guy / American Dad... no way, too narrow an audience. House is broad playing. I think it would work extremely well. And if they did a two-parter (which House HAS done before), and then perhaps moved House away from Idol later that week (to, say, Thursday at 8pm...)...
What does Fox have to put on after the Super Bowl, unless one of their new series breaks out? 24 is WAY too serialized. Maybe Bones?
As for Fox post-Super Bowl, I think it would be stupid to waste the spot on House, which is already a huge hit. For the last 2 weeks, it has been the No. 1 scripted show on TV. I don't think it can get much bigger than that.
I would think they would use it on a new show that they have not premiered yet or maybe to kick off Season 7 of 24 (if they wanted to give it an edge to clobber Heroes). Or maybe Bones? That show's ratings are up, but it seems like it is just waiting to be shot into the ratings atmosphere. What do you think?

They did the same thing last year with the 3 cowboys. It is so embarrasing that I remember that!!
Yup. The build-up was obviously to get us to react the way we are now.

I don't anyone was claiming that House needs it. Just that it wouldn't fail. House right now is the msot watched scripted show each week, and will remain so for the Spring. Also even though I hate House I think it is much better then Grey's Anatomy, which I really hate and I am glad House is beating it for the Spring.

I see... we have about another 3 months to hear endless speculation regarding VM's fate despite the obvious. Then we have another year or so to hear from the Marsies how stupid it was for VM to be canceled. After that we will just see the occasional irate note regarding how poor a decision it was - and some will blame Marc because he didn't support the show. Marc will be shunned by the Marsies for 2 years. They will temporarily forget their hatred upon prospect of a Veronica Mars movie. Unfortunately, there were no backers with any money and the project will be shelved and then Marc will be blamed once again for not mortgaging his home to invest.
