'Pushing them back', but making a bunch of 2 hour premieres; still means burning up a lot of new hours early. So, the regular season will still end up with additional repeats along the way or more stand in replacement series than last year. I suppose that FOX is doing this to combat NBC's Olympic effects, but it still means burning off new shows before America is ready to settle down for a new TV season.

But with Idol, 24, not to mention no place on the midseason lineup for Prison Break and SCC, Fox has oodles of programming to air. Its a good move for them. Its a good move for Cdub because they need to get sampling before the big stuff comes. Its a bad move for established ABC, CBS, and NBC, save for maybe a few key nights.

This is the third time the show has aired on CW and it has also been airing on MTV. After re-airing the show that many times, what would you expect?
Exactly what we got: Dopestroff approved repeats of reality shows that shouldn't be repeating in the summer. Best throw back in the Farmer encore this week to try to save what was becoming a stable summer series for them.
I think its a good thing to wait until after Labor Day. I think even NBC is waiting until after Sept. 1 to premiere a bulk of its line up instead of going right into it after the Olympics is over.
I loved the feel to Swingtown, but let's be honest, the kids had the best storylines. Where the hell are the parents even going from here? It just seemed like they were filling an hour. Perhaps I'm just too old. I would like see more of the old neighbors, and I'm guessing the husband joins in on the fun before long.

I agree. It is a waste of valuable programming to put new shows on before Labor Day. Until all the kids go back to school, and people return to work from their summer vacations there simply is not enough people watching TV to waste new shows. After Labor Day Fall basically starts and people settle in to watch TV again, and that is when networks should start the shows. FOX tried a few years ago premiering shows before labor day, and it did not work.

I thought the look on redhead's face when she watched her husband walk away to get a shower, right in the end, was quite expressive. Perhaps some doubt, curiosity as to what will happen next. And the uptight neighbour was hilarious. I'm sure we're going to see much more of her, trying to deal with her (quite obvious) sexual frustrations and the fact her husband is quite taken with the possibility of an open marriage (or just good ol' infidelity. judging by the rear view scene at the beginning, he's going after redhead).
(And just to be a little petty: the mere thought of prudish bible thumpers watching this ep and having a series of heart attacks over all its no-no's made my evening )
There's already a reaction of people who saw the pilot claiming that it was dirty and that they won't be tuning in again. So yes, there's going to be a "Christian" backlash.
That being said, I found Swingtown to be boring. The first 45 minutes absolutely nothing of substance happened. It's on the wrong network also. This show wasn't able to push the boundaries enough to become engaging. If it was on HBO or Showtime, they could include more. Either it couldn't or wasn't able to tackle the real issues and dodged around it. With Swingtown, you got to go for it and go for extremes. That didn't happen.
Fear Itself on the other hand I was impressed with. I was expecting bad made for TV horror movies. Instead, the series was suspenseful and engaging. It definately was in my opinon the better 10 PM choice from what was presented.

The seventies were much more swinging than "Swingtown" will ever portray, though I did enjoy the prog rock music throughout.
And I agree with your assessment...NBC has an anthology winner on its hands with "Fear Itself", which was truly chilling.

I didn't bother. The premise didn't really appeal to me and I suffered through the clothes and decor of the 70s once, I have no desire to subject myself to that again. Plus, I already get my fill of tv sex from the disaster that has become Nip\Tuck. Glad you enjoyed it though; I think it will do OK in the ratings.
I did try Fear Itself, and was impressed for the most part.

sounds good for the established shows, but I wish they hadn't pushed Fringe back. FOX has a nasty habit of airing a new show a few times and then pre-empting it for baseball. I suspect that many people, who don't frequent the internet or scour the tv guide, just forget about them or assume them were canceled and move on.

I agree that the kids had interesting storylines and I think that is an important point to make. This show clearly isn't just about swinging. It is a family drama, though a so far more intelligent one than most family dramas.

The Susan character (played by the actress from Deadwood) seems to have the central storyline. She liked her 'old life' with her 'stable sidekick friend', but is also bored to tears with it. She is stuck with a husband that hasn't read a book in years and a life that revolves around homemaking and bar-b-que style events. She clearly needs something to mentally stimulate herself beyond just her daughter.

Naw, you liked the kids storylines best, so you are still too young. as for the old neighbors, I think the wife was a great character, but the husband needs to develop beyond deer in thre headlights level.
